Situated just off Clerkenwell Green, on a south-west facing corner, the site boasts a ground floor pub and first floor dining room, both of which benefit from maximum sunlight with its ceiling-high windows.
The English Bistro style menu has a selection of British classics and European favourites, all designed to bring people round the table and enjoy the occasion. Working closely with the seasons, our chefs are constantly trying to source great products and show them in the way they can shine best, whilst being sympathetic to their region of origin.
The pub offers a changing selection of cask ales and draft beers from local breweries and a carefully selected list of 35 low-intervention wines. The team selects small producers whose ethos is in line with our own of simple genuine quality and who we are proud to support.
Went for a Sunday roast with friends. Booked but didn’t need to as lots of tables (apparently roast dinners are less popular in summer) but I imagine it’s best to book in winter months. Sat outside on a picnic bench in the sun and were quickly seen to by staff. Food was lovely, well cooked and seasoned, all with a home cooked vibe which is just what we were looking for. Vegetarian roast was a beetroot wellington, was a bit too salty for my taste and a lot bigger than I’d anticipated/needed, although I’d rather too much than not enough. Personally not my favourite vegetarian option but a welcome change from bog standard nut roast. Only real hiccup was that my vegetarian roast got mistook for the beef wellington, they quickly rectified and kindly took my drink off the bill to apologise for the error! Staff were really nice, attentive and friendly, seemed like nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely recommend to friends in future!
Great professional staff, delicious rabbit!
It's a small place but nicely spread out. A really interesting menu, well cooked.
Menu too limited, items not available at 9.30pm. Food pretentious & uninspiring. Poor.
Very average, slightly over priced food. Nice setting, but i would go over the road to the Eagle for better pub food and more of an atmosphere.
This was my second time eating at The Green and was not disappointed. The menu is not massive so not overwhelming. The food is innovative and really delicious. The service was very good and attentive. We were made to feel quite comfortable and the entire dining experience was enjoyable. I will certainly go again.
Lovely food and an excellent wine selection! Took a bit of time initially to be welcomed, and we were a bit confused, but then everything went well.
Hesvy menu. Not enough salad or vegetarian options. Who wants mutton on a warm spring day?
Best Sunday lunch I've every had! The porchetta was amazing.
Almost criminal, my fiance is in tears! Booked the upstairs for our engagement party, only to then be threatened later on to pay an extra 625 pounds or they would cancel. Avoid
Fab beef wellington for Sunday lunch!
Delicious Sunday lunch of the Green's famous beef Wellington and all the trimmings plus a wonderful malt chocolate tart with amazingly thin, crusp pastry. Nice atmosphere and only slightly let down by some very nice but a little inattentive staff. Recommended.
Perfectly serviceable Sunday lunch but not as good as sister pub Culpeper.
This is not my first visit to The Green, and I am glad to continue returning. The pull, on this occasion, was the beef Wellington served as one of their Sunday roasts - a rarity to find. I was not fully persuaded by the garlic thyme butter that came with the (delicious, crispy) sourdough as it felt a bit like eating a mushroom, without the mushroom - I think they might want to steal the sister Culpeper's anchovy butter, which packs greater salt and flavour. But the whole lunch was delicious: crispy, fluffy potatoes that leave you wanting more, beautifully char-grilled carrots that take any boring roundness out of the root to leave it infused with crunchy smokiness, and buttery threads of seasonal greens all surrounding the actual showstopper, a medium-cooked slab of been Wellington where medium still manages to retain juices and tenderness - a lovely lunch.
Lunch ended with a blood orange posset - delicious, but way too big even for two people - there is only so much cream you can spoon into your mouth without tiring of it. But this has nothing to do with flavour of texture - both fantastic - just with the quantity of rich goodness.
Wonderful place for a Sunday roast!
Excellent quality food in a relaxed pub setting.
Visited for a fairly early Saturday lunch and couldn't fault any aspect of the experience. Food was first class - melting lamb sweetbreads, succulent braised lamb and an interesting rhubarb nut crumble - and every element of the dishes was cooked perfectly.
Well-curated but manageable wine list along with a good range of cask and craft beers.
Service was flawless from start to finish - friendly, approachable and just what you want from that kind of setting.
Based on the reviews I thought it would be good but I was genuinely surprised at how wonderful the entire experience was. Highly recommended!
Lovely Sunday roast, highly recommend the beef wellington, great place to get together with friends for a catch up over the weekend!
Always loved this pub in the evenings after work. Now I've visited for Sunday lunch and look forward to having more meals there
Really nice Sunday meal - just wish there were a few more options. Our waitor was really helpful, had lovely beer and wine and all in all, a lovely experience
Christmas set menu lunch here for my team. A menu that was ultra easy for them to prepare, less easy on our pocket and sadly rather forgettable.
We discovered The Green when I was working in the area and although now I moved I like to go back to the old Green, good food, great ambiance, I will go there forever
The service was great and the bar area was lively and fun. The ambiance is also light and pleasant. Sadly the food left a lot to be desired - the menu wasn’t diverse or thought out (no vegan options / all fish and red meat). The lamb dish was flavourless and oily, with beautiful presentation but sadly very poorly seasoned. The fish arrived bloody and veiny, something I’ve never seen before in my life - this we had to send back. If the menu were to get an overhaul, this would be a lovely spot for dinner and a drink after.
The food was just ok, trying to be a high end gastro pub but not really delivering.
I hear great things about this pub which is why I booked for my 5 mates. The food is good, but we had very undercooked beef wellington with not much veg for 6 people and also a very overcooked / burnt frangipani tart which was a shame as I'm sure its better. Maybe just an off day? I didnt say anything to the manager due to being out with friends and not wanting to ruin the atmosphere. Complaining isnt cool. You just want great food right... The pub is lovely and wonderful light and atmosphere. I eat out alot with friends / family so will try again maybe one day
Incredible meal - it's so rare to find a pub with such high quality food, and such a brilliantly designed menu. This is proper high end restaurant quality stuff, but in a relaxed, friendly, local pub setting. It's pretty much perfect.
Wonderful beef wellington and good puds.
Only criticism would be that the service was distracted and seemed to expect that it is the customer's responsibility to catch their eye in order to ask for something rather than their responsibility to be vigilant to the needs of their customers.
A minor gripe but hopefully useful feedback.
Limited choice of main courses due to a heavy lunch service, so some of the group had to be a bit 'inventive' with their food choices - some having a couple of starters instead of a main. Not a bad evening at the Green, but was expecting better.
We love this pub when we first visited. The roast lamb was so tasty. Anchovy butter with homemade bread is a perfect match too. Unfortunately, when we visited again last weekend. The signature beef Wellington did not lift up the high expectations. The vegetables are overcooked as well.
I booked for my wife for her lunch in London. It was her first time to visit Green restaurant. She said that staff was really welcome and kindly. And Tiramisu super delicious!
Great food but service was lacking.
Still the best Sunday roast around!
Wonderful lunch, full of flavours and nicely presented. The whiskey ice cream was a real highlight, closely followed by the beautifully cooked beef welling.
The food was pretty 'meh' and it was tough to get the attention of the wait staff. When we did speak with them they were kind and helpful! Don't know that I'd go there again. Was fun once.
We had a lovely experience at the Green. We sat upstairs to avoid loud conversations downstairs, but the upstairs was quiet and cozy. I had the bolognese, which was absolutely delicious. The ambiance is very welcoming and we enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. I’d certainly recommend it!
Bit overpriced for what it was. Slightly chewy lamb, a single carrot and 3 roast potatoes... Tasty though, and really like the place. Will definitely keep it in mind for another try one day.
Dreadful. Lack of any kind of atmosphere. Poor service. Menu short and very odd. Black pudding starter horrible.
Overall a dreadful dining experience.
We visited last Sunday to have a late lunch and were very much looking forward to trying the Beef Wellington. Sadly the roasts had all finished by the time we ordered and so we had to choose from the other menu from which there were also some dishes missing . Feeling somewhat disappointed, we complained to the waiter who was extremely apologetic, gave us complimentary drinks and rustled up an alternative which we enjoyed. The customer service we received meant that instead of leaving feeling cross and disenchanted, we left thinking we will definitely return and hope to enjoy the Beef next time!
Very good atmosphere, nice vibe for a Sunday roast lunch. I ordered the lamb which was certainly tasty but a very small portion which was disappointing so not as good value for money as I'd hoped. But overall, a pretty nice place.
The experience was truly fantastic, food, service, location and money well spent and would recommend but also go again but I would also advise people to book as when my girlfriend and I arrived it was fairly quiet (2pm on a Sunday) but when we left at 4:45pm the place was a lot busier.
Had a pleasant dinner with a friend. The restaurant is cosy and inviting with friendly waiter who was attentive but not annoying.
Excellent service and lovely ambiance. Food was faultless and really interesting.
