We booked ahead on a October Wednesday lunch time but it turned out to be a quiet day. An ideal lunch stop half way round a walk to see the Woburn Deer Park rutting. The two course lunch menu was good value and desserts were rustled up even though they had run out of the standard items.
Eaten here several times, nice menu and food, friendly place and great location but on this occasion service was very slow (despite not being busy)...
Spring rolls and Camembert starters were good. Lamb hotpot and fish cake mains were good although the fish cake didn't need chips however the steaks were disappaoaianting, we were unsure that they were rib eye and they were thin so cooking medium rare was not accurate and the potato wedges were extremely over cook and this was an expensive main dish.
Sticky toffee pudding and brownie were good.
The waiters were attentive
Had a meal for four on a quiet Tuesday evening. The food was excellent and the service just right. The vegetarian option for one of our party was a revelation being both unique and freshly prepared and cooked. All meals were excellent. We will definitely dine here again.
We had some friends visit and decided to go out for the evening. We made a reservation in the morning for that evening, for four people
It was a nice relaxing atmosphere in the bar. We ordered our meals, the restaurant area was very quite. The food was excellent, as was the service. I cannot understand why the restaurant was so quite. We all had a lovely evening and look forward to returning.
lovely food and staff were very nice
a little to long waiting to order
The sort of village pub you thought long gone. Separate dining area is also available. Good food, cooked well and well presented. Friendly service. Guest Beers when we went. Range of food to suit everyone.Classic to more "modern". Can get - deservedly busy, so book to be sure.
Friendly staff and lovely atmosphere in the garden but food came swimming in oil or butter which was a shame. Possibly new chef as food had previously been excellent.
Having read good reviews of the Green Man we were happy to find it lived up to expectations. It was informal and friendly but not intrusively so. The staff were busy but we didn't feel rushed. The food was delicious and we would definitely eat here again.
Outstanding food as usual with great service and a lovely atmosphere!
We have been to the Green Man many times. There is always a warm welcome and excellent home cooked food
The Green Man is a favourite of ours due to the friendly atmosphere, great food choice and excellent quality of their food. The service is excellent and nothing is too much trouble. We would recommend The Green Man to anyone who wants a lovely meal out whether it is to celebrate a special occasion or just enjoy an evening out.
Warm and friendly atmosphere with really good quality food
The food was perfectly edible but every item appeared to have been a pre-packaged. The chips were fries. The fish (we both had it) were suspiciously similar in appearance shape and batter texture.
The place was (we felt) over-lit and was essentially a local pub with a food option.
The service was good and attentive. Unfortunately the food didn't sparkle.
Restaurant was cold and when we said it was cold the reply was, "I know but it will warm up at 3 when lots of other people arrive." Answer should have been, 'I know I will get a heater for you!' I had only been given the time for a booking as 12 or 12.30 on your website and would have preferred 1 or 1.30 so assumed the restaurant was fully booked and it was absolutely empty all the time we were there. I ordered the roast beef and would have preferred gravy served separately but it was fine, in fact quite nice, once the gravy was poured away. My friend wanted the roast pork but as there was no crackling also had beef. My pudding on the chalk board said 'treacle tart with pouring cream' but it arrived with ice cream. When I said I thought it came with cream the waitress said they were short of cream hence the ice cream, surely a chalk board should have been amended it was not on a printed sheet. This should have been a very nice New Year's Day lunch with a friend of long standing (who lives locally to this venue) and it was still a nice get together for us but hugely disappointing as a venue. Finally we spent the first half hour of sitting in an empty restaurant with one of the chefs messing about in cupboard in a corner on his knees sorting out their PA system for a quiz taking place later that afternoon. I have never posted a negative review and was going to email The Green Man direct but they don't have an email address on their website, hence this.
A perfectly good 2 course lunch with portions of a reasonable size. Have been here before and would go again, though it was quite empty on the Saturday lunch time that we went.
A nice lunch with a friend. Service excellent and food tasty. Perhaps a little pricey but we had an enjoyable time.
Love this place !! Shame you can't clone the landlady as there are so many places that could do with one of her !
Fabulous welcome and the food was lush. We had an antipasti platter to share which consisted of various cured meats and pate served with warm bread and chutney, delicious. For main course I had liver and bacon plus a side of fries as I'm a pig, bloody lovely it was. My partner had a sirloin steak with the usual accompaniments which she wolfed down. I couldn't manage dessert but was informed that the chocolate brownie was heavenly, a smear on the plate the only sign if it's passing.
We will be back, can't praise the staff, the welcome and the food highly enough. Really reasonable prices too !!
Was very disappointed, after a 30 minute wait we were seated at our table, after the starters came a member of our party decided he would order one as well...it didn't arrive until the mains came out & instead of the breads, olives, humous & balsamic dip, it was just chunks of bread a slab of butter & the dip, the mains were only luke warm & where the fish & chips were on the menu the fish came out with fries instead of chips....therefore didn't bother ordering a dessert, wouldn't go back again !
Great service and lovely meal....staff really work well together as a team and are only too happy to help.
We were able to find a table on a Sunday lunchtime at short notice for our family if three.
A most enjoyable meal with discerning friends. Comfortable and pleasant ambience and delicious, well cooked food. We all agreed that we'd made a good choice for our get-together by booking a table at the Green Man.
For a Saturday night they had run out of some of the basic foods. The food was good, but the service was lacking. Also for a Saturday night is was a little quite, this did not create the ambience .
The food here was amazing. Truly traditional home cooked food.lovely atmosphere, well maintained pub. Will be visiting again very soon
