Excellent food as always. Service was brilliant. Couldn't fault the evening.
Fantastic food and service. Definitely one to visit.
Absolutely delicious meal to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Would highly recommend The Green for a special occasion, although it is quite expensive. We had trout gravadlax / guinea fowl starter, roast lamb / roast duck mains, meadowsweet mousse / chocolate clafoutis. Service was attentive but not overly fussy and with the right amount of time between courses. Perhaps a little more information about the unusual courses would have been helpful, and as one of us had to drive then greater choice of wine by the glass would have been welcome.
Perfect all round, food delicious, service attentive and surroundings cosy without being stuffy, Why go anywhere else.
A warm welcome awaits guests in addition to a good food experience. Highly recommended - we will definitely be returning.
Set menu is good value for the food, but the 'extras' can add up quickly.
Very good/ different separate vegan menu.
Interesting and delicious menu, great service - will go again!
Went to The Green for lunch on a Saturday, we started off with some complimentary bread & butter followed by an amuse bouche. I went for the menu du jour which was very good value for money.
Very relaxed friendly service, we will be back.
We ate al-fresco for the first time and the garden was very quiet and peaceful. The service from a young waiter was outstanding: nothing too difficult and a very pleasant demeanour. As usual with the Green; the food was outstanding and we thoroughly enjoyed all of the dishes we ordered.
Interesting menu, great food, and attentive service from this lovely family run restaurant. Also there is a large carp park just around the corner on LHS so very ease to park. A real treat.
Very good everything really. The review asks if we would recommend The Green to friends or relatives, we already do and have. I don't normally give 5 stars to anything, again I already have. Some of the food is more expensive than I might already pay but it is worth the extra for an occasion, and there are always the Menu de jours which are a little more affordable in fact as I write this I'm wondering if I'm blowing our little secret. The staff have always been good and approachable as well. I'm going to have to stop now as I'm breaking all of my rules...
We have been to The Green many times, we make a specific visit there from Exeter and it has always exceeded our expectations. This time there were two vegans in our party, they were delighted to be presented with their own vegan menu which was outstanding.
The food for all of us was wonderful as always and the service excellent, and at a leisurely pace which suited us very well, coffee afterwards was taken in the little outside courtyard, an absolute delight!
I would love to give a review of the food here but we never got a chance to eat.
We arrived 10 minutes early. They couldn't find our booking at first. When it was found we were told we weren't expected until quarter to ( it was 7.35 and I said we had a booking at 7.45) we were pointed to an area and told ours was the table in the corner. Both tables were in the corner so we picked the one we liked. From the look of the manager we chose the wrong one! He gave us our menus and rushed through the options of the menus and then rushed away. No offer of a drink, water or anything.
We then waited for 15min totally ignored as a waitress sat another guest at a table next to us, then returned with a drink for him. She also tended to a nearby table, presented them with their bill and took payment. All the time totally ignoring us.
The next table (who arrived after us) had his order taken and then the manager finally acknowledged us. We explained how they had made us feel by ignoring us and how upset my wife was( it's our anniversary) when I asked it was the restaurant policy to just give you a menu without offering you a drink he would not answer and just said I will get you a drink.
When I explained how upset and angry we were his responses were patronising and insincere.
We just gave up and left with .y wife in tears.
I am sure the food is lovely and I am sure if you are local and a regular the service is good.
But as neither of those I have never felt more unwelcome.
So my advice would be to avoid The Green if you want a lovely evening.
Misleading fixed priced menu, flavourless very dry food. Overpriced mediocre wine.
Totally different to our last visit two years ago which at the time I gave 5 stars.
Excellent service, very friendly, thoroughly enjoyed our meal, we will be back.
Excellent food, great value for money and those little extra tasters they bring are a great start to your meal.
I wish we had discovered it sooner. We will be back.
As ever, a most enjoyable experience. All aspects of the meal and surroundings were very good.
The food is well thought out, the meal balanced, with unusual items appearing.
The lunch-time 3 course special is great value.
For a special place to eat in Sherborne, The Green ticks all the right boxes - pleasant decor, spacious, interesting and delicious food and cooking, good wine list and very friendly owner. Only thing that I'd suggest may be good is carafes of wine as an option between glass and bottle. Highly recommend, and according to my fellow diner who went there 7 years earlier - the standard has remained a constant!
Excellent and imaginative food at a very reasonable price
Exquisite food, excellent service and good value. Would highly recommend to anyone who enjoys good food.
The second time we have eaten here. Really impressed by the lunchtime three course deal. Would certainly recommend , and our pescatarian friends were delighted too.
Excellent experience will use this restaurant again.
Thanks for a delicious meal. Fish was excellent and also beef.
First time here, will definitely return. Small but interesting menu, far from run of the mill, good choice for meat eaters, fish eaters and vegetarians. Vegetarian main course packed an unexpected flavour punch. Sea Bass perfectly cooked. Dessert out of the ordinary too and very tasty. Nice staff doing a very good job. Lovely room, great atmosphere. Very happy with our visit
The menu and food were top quality and great value for money. The staff were great
It was our first time to The Green. Great food served in lovely surroundings. We will definitely return.
As always a pleasure to dine out, food is wonderful, the staff are always attentive without being in your face!
Manager Chris always give us a wonderful welcome.
We know that we can take friends and service, food will be first class.
We spent a very pleasant three hours over a wonderful lunch. The food and service was excellent. We’re only sorry it’s taken us two years to find this restaurant. We will certainly recommend to friends.
Excellent food, drink and service, good atmosphere, will definitely be returning.
Visited for lunch to celebrate a number of family birthdays, food and service were great. Will definitely return and recommend to friends and family.
A lovely place to have a good dinner! Of our dishes, the standouts were the ceviche of sea-bass, and the beef fillet and the pork medallions. The Prix Fix menu at £27 for three courses - with the main dish alone on the a la carte menu coming in at over £20 is incredible value. Service was good - although they were really busy and it showed a little. Delightful wines. Will be back!
Great food and service was attentive and good. So why are you not full on a Sunday lunchtime- such a shame as the place lacked atmosphere due to lack of customers. Sign of the times at the moment?!
I went with a friend. We had the fixed price lunch menu. .... great value for money ... six empty plates! I am a vegetarian of 30 years plus standing and there was nothing bland about either my starter or main course. We could not order until nearly 14:00 and this was not considered a problem for either our waiter or the chef (well if it was they didn’t tell us). We were celebrating my birthday and so had a Bellini to start with, we then shared a bottle of wine, had a glass of desert wine and ended with a coffee liqueur ... at no point were we made to feel like we outstayed our welcome. The service was friendly without being over zealous ... we both had a fantastic experience .... and if allowed to return and have a long lunch another day we will do so. For those who want a quicker lunch then opt for the fixed price menu minus the alcohol and you will have an absolute bargain. Thanks guys.
We had the lunch menu of the day and thoroughly enjoyed it. Staff were friendly and gave us an amuse bouche to start with which was a nice touch.
What ever the occasion, a low key Sunday roast to a full on celebration, this is the place to go. Just good honest food served with a smile a dependable restaurant of some distinction.
Not very good food , to say the least .
The waitresses ( most of them ) don’t appear to speak or understand a word of English ( and I really mean not a word ) so every time you ask for something they go and get a gentleman with better English. Bizarre .
There was a strange atmosphere amongst the staff , they all seemed pretty unhappy .
The food was very odd : I had the lamb from the special menu which turned out to be a large meatball , not at all what I was expecting & not very good .
Nobody came to enquire wether everything was ok and ever removed a couple of plates that had clearly not been enjoyed as little had been eaten from them ( probably because so few people actually speak English).
Needless to say we left before dessert or coffees .
A very enjoyable eating experience. Very good food - appropriate for a Michelin Star whilst still good value. Very pleasant atmosphere and friendly staff. Yes, I would certainly recommend it for a special night out.
I love the Green , been before. Went with a friend that had never been. approval all round. Food delicious, and flavours you don't get in a standard restaurant.
A perfect dining experience. Fantastic food, great service and a perfect ambience.
