About this restaurant

  • Charming
  • Good for special occasions
  • Dog-friendly
Natalie and her team of chefs pride themselves on the taste and quality of the food from our kitchens. We use fresh, local ingredients whenever possible, offering an extensive variety of meals and snacks. See our seasonal menu.

It's good, honest, home-cooked, traditional fare of the kind most of us love to eat but that's now so often missing from the menus of many fancy restaurants.

For your special occasions or get togethers you can book exclusive use of our separate Dining Room where we can accommodate up to 30 people for a sit-down meal.

Dogs are allowed in our top bar so you are able to enjoy a meal and a drink or two with your pet. You can also sit outside in our beautiful garden anytime of the year, we have plenty of outdoor seating with patio heaters.

A nice country pub and good menu. Could do with a couple more vegetarian choices. Friendly staff and somewhere we visit often.

Our meal at the Greyhound at Usk was perfect for a sunny springtime midweek night. Our hosts were very helpful. The service was attentive and friendly, a little slow due to the large number of customers, but this was not an issue. On the contrary, I feel that it was a testimony to the popularity of the venue, an achievement for any countryside pub these days. All ages were represented, even what looked like a local boules club, a refreshing sight. The food was perfect quality simple pub grub, beautifully presented and plentiful. It featured the Welsh double mix of rice, or pasta and chips for accompaniment. The selection tapas was good and we had some for a starter. The meat dishes - burger and lasagna - tasted homemade and the meat was not fatty. I appreciate that it is locally produced with care in the vale of Usk, as per the website mention. With options to sit inside or outside with heaters, or under the shelter of a heated covered room facing the green, we were very pleased with the experience. We look forward to returning.

This was our first visit to the venue. The pub and hotel are lovely with beautifully manicured gardens and a water feature. There is plenty of well thought out seating outside and the pub has a traditional yet very clean feel about it, with stone floors and a couple of cosy bar areas, with seating in little rooms around the pub. There is also a large private dining area. The pub is situated in a lovely rural location just outside Usk with lovely views. The only downside is the motorway on the other side and although you can’t see it, you can hear it. The prices are a little above average for a pub roast ie £21 and cauliflower cheese is extra. The deserts are £9 each. The food was well presented and I am sure it was good produce, but in our party of fours opinion it was not cooked very well. The roast potatoes spoilt it as they were like small round overcooked potato balls, and some were inedible. We of course gave polite feedback when they were taking our plates. The deserts were basic pub style and not worthy in quality of the £9 price tag although the quantity was there. Overall we enjoyed the venue, the staff were friendly and welcoming, but unless the food improves for the price point we won’t be in a hurry to return which is a great shame. Maybe the chef had an off day, or there was something wrong with the oven or may be the chef needs more training. This is just our experience on one lunch time so I would like to see positive comments going forward to reassure us that it is either not usually like this or it has improved, as putting aside the average food it is a lovely venue.

Beautiful place and surroundings. Had a lovely welcome on arrival. Dining area seemed quite loud as we sat down - the table of 8 felt quite close to us. We ordered and the food came after around 30/35 minutes. I had ordered fries but mine came with chips - didn't want to ask to change after waiting for the food longer than expected. The schnitzel coating was very dark in colour and seemed overcooked - the pork inside suggested the same as it was very chewy, there were only a few 'fat' chips, the others were the pointy/crispy bits. The butter chicken curry was quite bland and watery even after adding a fair bit of salt to try and help - not much sauce to dip the nan in, the rice was very 'al dente'. The sea bass was well cooked and enjoyed. Overall a very disappointing visit after we'd been looking forward to it and sadly we would not return.

The staff were first class ! They made us feel incredibly welcome, greeting us warmly and letting us know they had noted my wife’s birthday that I had mentioned on the online booking. Food was first class & represented fantastic value. Incredibly impressed & highly recommend !

Very nice surroundings and well decorated. Ok Average pub meal. A pity the road can be heard so loudly, but nothing can be done about this I assume.

Fabulous Sunday lunch today. We were seated in The Library which was perfect! The food was delicious & beautifully presented with excellent service! Our waiter was Peter who was efficient & courteous with a pleasant cheerful manner. We will definitely return in the near future! Thank you for making our Mother’s Day celebration so special!
