It was very disappointing. Very quiet for a Saturday night. The young waiter who served us was absolutely lovely - couldn't fault him. However there was only 1 steak left ( at 7.30pm?). Of the 4 white wines on the list, only 2 were available. The menus were on badly photocopied piece of paper, and the paper napkins tiny and cheap looking. All seemed a bit cheap for the surroundings. The one steak was tasty. The venison sausages and mash nothing to write home about. We won't be back.

La partie hôtellerie est de bonne qualité mais les restaurant de l’hôtel fut une très très grande déception : 10 clients dans la salle pour 4 serveurs qui couraient partout mais en faisant…bah rien. J’ai rarement vu une telle désorganisation. De la bonne volonté mais qui brassait du vent. Donc, 30 minutes pour avoir notre bouteilles de vin (réclamé 2 fois) et 1h15 d’attente pour 2 hamburgers. J’ai même proposé à un des serveurs d’aller les faire moi-même s’il y avait un problème. Deux couples sont partis avant la fin de leur repas et un couple est reparti au bout de 15 minutes sans que personne ne soit pas passé les voir. La salle était pourtant déserte. Au bout de ce périple culinaire, un des serveurs nous a offert 2 desserts en dédommagement. Les plats et les desserts étaient bons mais quelle désorganisation.

Stayed at Colessio lots of times, usually order champagne, this time the bottle was opened at the bar & not at our table , which is normal with champagne, especially as its overpriced moet at almost £100 a bottle, which I refused to pay for. Breakfast is usually lovely but was cold. Was disappointed this visit. Hopefully when we go back in December, things will have improved again.

Overall really disappointed, several menu options unavailable even though we were seated at 6pm. Had the black pudding scotch egg, wish I didn't as it was awful. Steak pie for main which had a slight smell to it which was rather off putting and pastry was like a potato scone. Breakfast wasn't much better tbh. Wouldn't recommend it at all

It’s such a shame because I was really looking forward to staying in the hotel and eating here. They had run out of most things on the menu, it would have been better if they had explained that at the outset rather than hoping we wouldn’t pick something they didn’t have. The food we did have was ok, the chicken burger was nice enough but the side of slaw on the platter was warm which was slightly off putting. The chips were a soggy bundle in a separate dish, they looked homemade and should have been lovely but I don’t know what happened there. Overall there was just an air of tension. A foreign family came to eat at just after 20:30 and the kitchen had already closed. Probably because they had nothing left to serve but it was an uncomfortable exchange.

Food was awful. Fisherman's pie was watery inside and mash was yellow and lumpy. I had scampi which was nice, homemade tartar sauce was very good but the chips were limp and grey inside instead of crispy and fluffy. Food was not hot, just lukewarm. Stick toffee pud was OK but I've had better. Husband had apple crumble which wasn't sweet and crumbly, apples were brown and overcooked and the crumble wasn't sweet or crumble, just like crushed biscuits.

Such a lovely location but it was empty on a Saturday night, not sure why it’s not better used. The menu on offer was quite small, not what’s shown on open table, but food was good. Recommend the steak pie - it was really rich- though pastry was poor.

A number of starters and mains weren't available which I was told at the time of ordering. The reason given was because the hotel had a function on; I want pre-warnedocthis at the time of booking, so choice was really limited. I has soup for starters which was lovely, mushroom. However, the main I ordered was haddock and hips, this was cold when served. Although unlike me, I didn't send it back because of the company I was with. Although only one alcohol during was purchased, the was over £120 for 4 people, 2 courses. Disappointed.

Excellent venue good service excellent food. Seats could be higher and staff should warn you that the metal saucepan like serving utensil is extremely hot. Friendly staff prompt service beautiful view from one table where I sat.

They canceled our reservation when we showed up arguing that there had been an error in the reservation system.Regrettable. We are very angry at the lack of empathy and the lack of search for solutions. In no hotel in any country that we have visited have we been treated with such indelicacy.

Sorry to say this has all the signs of a failing operation. There were two occupied tables when we arrived at our booked time of 7.15 and no staff . We waited about 10 minutes until a waiter arrived. We ordered a bottle of wine and another waiter banged a bottle in a bucket on the table saying “cheers” and walked away. The first waiter returned to take a food order from the short menu. I ordered chicken which was “not available” so I ordered salmon which also was not available. We were told that the manager had gone out to buy some missing items. I asked how so many items were unavailable at 7.15 on Friday evening and the waiter replied “don’t shoot the messenger” (indicating it was a legitimate criticism but not his fault) The food eventually proved mixed suggesting that the chef was competent but held back by lack of support. The salad garnish with each dish was dry shredded lettuce with a few halved cherry tomatoes and no dressing. Based on that meal there was an impression of well-intentioned, demoralised staff . The restaurant itself is a large dark cavern with large ornate furniture which has seen better days . The whole enterprise gives the same impression …

Ordered starters,came in reasonable time. BUT my wife's order was wrong. As my order was a cold plate, it was ok to wait for correct dish. WAITED 45 min for our mains and had to ask when would it be served. Waited again for service. When it arrived it was Mussels and some other dish. WE HAD BOTH ORDERED CHICKEN WHEN IT DID ARRIVE WAS DRY AND CRISP ON OUTER. I suspect it had been under heat for a considerable time. Not a pleasant evening.

Really disappointing. Started was returned as it wasn’t warm. My friends main course of beef was also returned as it wasn’t hot. After waiting 30min and then asking the waitress if she could check on the meal we were then informed there was no beef left! My main course of sea bass was very dry and not really hot either. We were informed the chef was an agency chef and his first night on service. We also noticed a few other diners had returned also their food.

It was clear the sandwiches had been made some while ago, the bread was drying a bit. There was enough food however there were odd numbers of things. The service was civil, however seemed inexperienced, for example the pot of hot tea was served in front of the young child rather than the adults. We have eaten here for dinner prior and our experience was very different.

Our experience in the restaurant was poor. Staff were lovely and very attentive. Ordered a bottle of merlot, none in stock Cullen skink was luke warm Macaroni also luke warm, both returned Pepper sauce for rib eye was like a gravy Breakfast, had to wait for orange juice and plates for toast, then a long wait for cooked breakfast Only scrabled egg on offer, sausage over cooked, potato scone soggy as bacon was on top of it. Staff were lovely! Definitly a problem with staffing in kitchen

Obviously suffering from a lack of kitchen staff as the menu was very limited, one expected a greater variety than fish and chips, burger or macaroni cheese - there was no steak and the chicken was stuffed with haggis. Breakfast was appalling. Tea was served in flasks that had previously held filtered coffee which tainted the tea, the mushrooms and scrambled eggs had been sitting around as there was a lot of water on the plates and the bacon had been cooked several hours earlier. As part of our 10 day tour of Scotland we stayed in less expensive hotels and had far better food.

We had a table booked for 330pm as we were going to a show afterwards. We had a gift voucher for a 3 course dinner with wine but unfortunately could only order from the lunch menu which had a very limited choice. Standard of the food was quite poor!

The choice of menu was the poorest I have ever seen for a lunch menu - sandwiches or beefburger - and the sandwiches were off the menu. Why even offer 'lunch 'when the offering is so poor. I booked but after seeing the menu we left to eat elsewhere.

My husband had the venison which was overly cooked and chewy (he was not asked how he would like it cooked). The serving of potatoes was very small - a little square about 1.5 inch square. I had fish which was pretty good. For two people we were £105, which I felt was really quite expensive for a meal that wasn't great quality. The restaurant was very cold and I had to sit with my jacket on the whole time.

Second time we've eaten dinner here. The food was delicious. Service from Hector was a highlight. Chef and the team should be proud of the quality of food and presentation. Prices are what you expect to pay for quality ingredients and cookery.
