About
We are committed to bringing to Nunhead a place where families and friends can enjoy great food, carefully selected wines and local produce.
The food was good, but the service pretty shocking (we had to ask for menus and our our drinks and we weren’t offered more drinks or dessert menu before we asked for the bill). We had to wait 50mins from being seated to being served our meal, which I understand may be due to unforeseen customer levels. A real shame as it’s 3mins from our home and we could have been a regular customers, although I’ll think twice before booking now!
The quality of food is good but the portions of the sunday roast were quite small, the gravy sauce was very watery and the roast beef was overcooked for my liking. One of my friends had the full English breakfast which looked amazing and I would definetly recommend.
Lovely food and venue but it was so loud in there! We wanted to order another coffee but we didn't in the end as the noise of all the diners was unbearable. They need to sort their acoustics and get soft furnishings perhaps - ruined what was otherwise a lovely brunch.
Lovely brunch!
Ok - decent breakfast
Despite having booked on Open Table the restaurant refused to serve us as the kitchen was closing. It feels like a lack of communication and thus of respect for booking customers. Please update your info!
The food was ok, though my poached egg was a little over cooked. It's not great value, with the mushrooms on toast seeming particularly expensive for quite a small portion. Lovely chocolate and Guinness cake though! Not a massive choice of soft drinks either.
Our order took a very long time to arrive, multiple parts of it were wrong and one meal did not arrive until we were ready to leave
Dinner in an empty restaurant on a Saturday night - sad times for the Habit I guess their attention is elsewhere. Poor food and irratic service considering we were the only people there. 😢
Fantastic brunch as usual thanks. Great atmosphere, very accommodating changing choice to menu for us.
Recent visit was 25th birthday brunch for my daughter, lovely chilled atmosphere on a sunny Friday morning and friendly staff. Particularly pleased with the vegan brunch, showed a bit of imagination as well as tasting great, and also attracted non-vegan members of the party.
Great food. Service was slow and frankly a little poor. Would recommend going when it’s not busy
It was not open even though able to book on opentable. I have heard the good is great though not being able to enter did present a rather big issue.
very tolerant and gracious waiting staff ( half our party were very late)
really excellently prepared food, looking great and imaginative
comfy and relaxed.
excellent service
I really like the Habit, however, was very disappointed that open table allowed a booking for a table of 4 on a Sunday at 1530. Only when we arrived we were informed that the venue closed at 1600, and there was only a limited amount of dishes left.
Really enjoyed the food and atmosphere here. There was just one other couple in the restaurant for the entire duration of our meal. Its a shame the place was not busier - it deserves to be!
Great tasty food, really like the meal and the drinks. Everything on the menu sounds so good it was hard to choose. Best pork I've eaten in a while!
First visit to The Habit for us, had heard a lot about it. Sampled a wide range of the very small plates and came away thinking it was expensive for a local. Crab rarebit tasty, beer battered onions far too few for such a cheap and quick dish, pigeon good cocktails good. Will see about a second visit but charming attentive service.
Fantastic meal, great service and very interesting menu!
Had heard of The Habit but unfortunately hadn't had the chance to visit as don't live close to Nunhead anymore. Unexpectedly found ourselves there so took the chance to have a late dinner. Very tasty small, seasonal plates in lovely surroundings provided by a very friendly owner. Well worth a visit and we hope to go back.
What a lovely local find. Super-friendly, and unusual, delicious food. Excellent for a jaded "I've seen it all in London" palate. I even liked the cocktails and I never like cocktails. And there was fudge. FUDGE!
A week later, I bumped into the owner/manager in a different area and he recognised me! Very impressive customer focus.
Definitely heading back soon.
Relaxed neighbourhood restaurant with simple decor and original art. Seasonal and great value menu - the food was delicious, with the wild boar sausages a real highlight. Service was friendly and knowledgeable and the team went out of their way to accommodate dietary requirements in our group. I'd thoroughly recommend the Habit.
Lovely place and brilliant food! Would definitely recommend for dinner.
The cauliflower horseradish and Parmesan soup was the dish of the evening for us- great that this truly lovely local restaurant and has a constantly changing two and three couse fixed price menu
The Peckham pale beer is a treat too
New restaurant in Nunhead. Very busy on a Sunday afternoon. Food not bad. Service needs work - waiting staff need to be a bit more on the ball
Lovely food and wine with impeccable service. Would highly recommend the Habit and will 100% be returning.
Outstanding as usual. Excellent food and fantastic service. Can't wait for the next excuse to visit.
I don't like posting negative reviews about local businesses but in this case for the price of the meal and the overall experience I feel it is necessary
Wasn't overly impressed with the food in general particularly with the steak. We asked for medium rare and it came out blue. We sent it back and as expected the chef put it back on the grill meaning the sauce on it burnt away and it came back a total mess, without any new sauce on top and the steak was tough really not a great cut.
At the end we mentioned this to the waitress who admitted the chef wasn't happy with the steak, if this was the case am surprised it came out to us or we were even charged for it...
In general we weren't blown away, best dish was the roast celeriac with truffles, Everything else was to be honest just a bit average.
The one redeeming part of the night were the cocktails which were great. Apart from that I'm afraid there are better places out there for the money with more imaginative tapas dishes.
Mouthwateringly amazing food, great happy hour cocktails and lovely ambient atmosphere. We'll be back!
Some great flavours, especially the partridge. However the celeriac was too stodgy and didn't seem worth £12 - presented on its own like we wouldn't be allowed our mains until we had forced it all down. We couldn't taste the truffle at all. We had one great waitress, but a waiter who completely lost track of where we were and more than once took things away too quickly to the point where it became irritating. Overall though it has a nice atmosphere and some fantastic dishes and wines; it could just do with being a bit more consistent.
Love it here. Delicious and unusual combos, fab service and all round great place.
Superb food in a great location - walkable from Peckham Rye station - great ambience.
Service let it down a little, too fast to start and then a little lack care and attention at the end.
Well worth the visit though.
After seeing images on Instagram, I very much wanted to visit. We were greeted by a very friendly gentleman who showed us to our table and told us about the specials. We didn't want to eat a lot so we ordered a few small dishes to share which and some glasses of wine. The food was beautifully presented and tasted amazing. We followed it up with a coffee (with beans from Old Spike Roastery) and a very interested, delicious ball of goats milk fudge to try. The table next to us were quite noisy but once a few people left, we were allowed to move to a quieter spot to enjoy our coffee. Highly recommended!
Our food was delicious, simple but perfectly done. Very good wine and attentive service. They made my dog feel welcome too which was appreciated. Can't wait to go back!
Lovely relaxed atmosphere, plus delicious and really interesting food
This is such a treat the food competes well with many fine dining restaurants. It's a great place to talk and relax over great food. The chefs/management love what they are doing and it shows.
I've been here for brunch many times and it was always fantastic this was my first time trying their dinner menu and it was amazing the Short Rib Beef Pie was the stand out of the night but all the dishes were fabulous. This is a great addition to Nunhead I just wish they did dinner more often as currently they only do it Friday and Saturday night.
A really lovely restaurant with outstanding food. there was only one vegetarian main course, but it was so delicious it didn't matter! The only downside was that my meal came much sooner than my partner's (about 10 minutes between them) - we were only told then that food was brought out when it was ready, and not at the same time. This was a shame, but they were very apologetic. The desserts were very cream-heavy (my partner and I had different things, but both had the same problem), and by far the weakest course, we found. Overall though it was lovely - we'll be going back again.
Food was fantastic and well priced for this level of cuisine. The menu changes regularly - the Iberico pork was very good as was the wine list. A great addition to the Peckham/Nunhead dining scene.
Sublime food- we had almost everything on the menu and it was delicious. Really reasonable prices and great staff!
