Food was great, just poor service waited over 20 minutes to be asked what we would like to order. On a couple occasions the server was walking away before we had finished speaking. Asked for a couple drinks and one we had to chase then find out they were out of stock and the other turned up different to what was ordered but the food was lush
Food just not good enough to justify the prices. Rather over cooked on places, very salty in others.
It was a last-minute booking and we got exactly the time we wanted, when we turned up we were immediately shown to our table and within minutes our order had been taken. Our meal turned up in a very reasonable time and was delicious
The food was pretty good and well-presented. The service however was poor - part of the main course never came and the waitress blamed her colleagues. She agreed to take something off the bill as a consequence but didn’t, so I had to remind her. I didn’t leave any gratuity in the end.
Far from a memorable lunch and the Yorkshire puds need serious attention. Dry cardboard on a plate - not nice. Also almost total lack of green vegetables - disappointing.
The ambience and service were very good and provided a restaurant, rather than pub, atmosphere.
There was quick response to our arrival and no delays of any kind.
My reservation on this occasion was that it seemed that the cod in my batter (From the fish and chips I ordered) was overcooked, so that it was lacking in the usual firmness one would expect.
I certainly intend to eat at the Hand and Sceptre again, however.
We love coming to this restaurant. The food is always amazing and there is a lovely atmosphere.
Clearly a little understaffed on our evening but the energy of the staff meant that this was not an issue. Well done the waitresses! Food good. Recommended.
The Hand and Sceptre in Southborough, Kent on Sunday Aug. 20 did NOT have our reservation, so I flashed my printed confirmation sheet to the waitress and she took it to the desk and that was the last we heard. Fortunately there was a table free. In our party of 4 , 2 had come from Tenterden in Kent and 2 from Bromley. It had been a long standing arrangement and I would have been SO cross if we were to have been just turned away. So what went wrong.? G.F.E.H.
Great food, service and value - we will return!
We enjoyed our meal the food was very good but a little pricy £40 per person for starter and main course and drinks. Service was good as always an enjoyable meal
Loved the atmosphere! Good selection of beers on too! I had a mojito which was crazy good! I had the butternut squash tart which was amazing! Loved the whole experience and will be returning!
I've been before, when it was better, but on my most recent visit my Sunday Lunch (roast lamb) was stone cold. It had clearly sat too long on the pass. I've never sent food back before but I did this time as it was really unappetising. When the plate returned it was piping hot but missing the Yorkshire Pudding.
Just sloppy really. The Hand & Sceptre is a nice place and conveniently located so i'll probably give it another go, but they do need to pull their socks up.
