Maybe would be better to have more waiter available
Cosy, very friendly & attentive service, relaxed atmosphere. Perfect for our evening.
Great food and ambiance, however, the Italian barman (long hair, dark thick beard) must've had one too many prior to his shift. Apart from the constant noise and shattering glasses, he kept chattering away very loudly with his (I believe) mates in the bar area and that was fairly close to where we got ushered when arrived. Also, he should keep his swearing a notch down (I can speak the language and although in Italian, it is not pleasant for all the guests). I did notice that the manager (I think) rightfully had a chat with him and I hope that becomes a lesson learnt, especially if he wants to be a waiter as it seemed like that was his goal. Finally, the actual waiter (again, Italian) was really helpful and knowledgeable of the dishes presented.
Another advice would perhaps be to browse some authentic Scandinavian desserts. Not too many options when it came to the authentic puddings really.
I went there for Valentine day, and unfortunately my girlfriend and I will not keep a good memory of this evening. The food was very disappointing and the service long (but friendly staff).
The Harcourt is a beautifully converted traditional London pub. It retains all the character of a London pub whilst offering a comfortable dining experience.
The staff were extremely attentive, courteous and friendly And I couldn’t fault them at all.
The first course of soup was delicious but could’ve been warmer. This was accompanied by the most delicious bread I think I have ever had.
The main course was delicious but I felt a little overpriced. Possibly for this reason the restaurant was empty on a Sunday evening. Perhaps a special offer could be made for Sunday night dining to encourage more diners and more ambience.
Second time here and really enjoy the food and wine too
Beer and bread were excellent. Starter and main course mediocre. Very disappointing.
The vibe is very English pub and I loved travelling to Marylebone to eat here. I was really excited to eat here since their lunch menu that’s online had a deal for a Sandwich, pastry and tea. This would’ve been great for me as I eat lightly in one sitting. Instead the manager accommodating us proceeded to tell us that what was on the menu was old. Typically at restaurants with good customer service they try and accommodate your request. But they failed to do so. The waiter despite not speaking the best English was sweet. Tbh the food wasn’t amazing and the fish smelled upon my arrival which is why I didn’t order any.
Food was delicious and very good sized portions... however the service from our particular waitress could have been better, a few mistakes were made due to poor English understanding, which you don't expect when from a restaurant that charges 12.5% service charge. Also the wine list is misleading as there are no indications of glass size on the menu... I ordered a large glass which ended up being double the glass size price on the menu. I thought the waitress should have pointed it out as there was no sizes by the prices and I was asked which size I would like having not specified on my first request. I would return though as the food was excellent and the decor and lighting was very nice, so I hope my small criticisms can be constructive for them.
Nice venue and good food. Menu can be a bit more diverse and service needs to be more attentive particularly during day time
Beautifully situated on the corner of a quiet street with inviting windows. The interior is welcoming. As it was early The Harcourt was fairly quiet but looks to have a good buzz when busy.
The menu is interesting but a little confused, I thought there would be more of a Swedish influence.
All 3 of us had starters - all excellent. The meat mains of duck and reindeer were very good and the cod was nice but a little over-cooked and bland. The 2 puddings were nice but conventional.
A group of 6 dined here just after Christmas and the food was fantastic. A great menu with a mix of seafood and meat. All served beautifully and scrumptious to eat.
I've been here many times, but the shine wasn't there this time. Food was great, but service mediocre. It was snowing heavily when I arrived and the waiter needed much prompting to hang up my coat which was soaking. There was one other set of diners and we had to disengage him from his phone every time we needed attention. It's a shame as I've had great meals here before with great service - from memory with different waiting staff. Perhaps this was the between Xmas and NewYear malaise. Would need persuading to go back.
Disappointed to be told that the seasonal grand prix menu was finished, even though it was stated as being available every day in December. Overall the restaurant wasn't as expected.
Das Christmas Menu war ausgezeichnet. Toller Service, ausgezeichnetes Essen und gemütliches Ambiente! Was will man mehr!
Went for Xmas lunch. As we walked to our table, we walked past one of the truffle risottos being served and it smelt amazing. My wife ordered it for herself and it was poor. Undercooked, lacked seasoning and had far less truffle smell than the one we walked past. I ordered the tart tartin. The pastry was thick and heavy, not light and crispy. Appetisers were ok and my reindeer main course was acceptable.
What a top spot. Well done Andrew and the team. My favourite place in town.
Admittedly we arrived late and with an extra guest but I had tried phone to let them know and there was no answer. The venue is beautiful and the menu looks interesting but the food didn't quite live up to the promise - a touch bland and cod was on the verge of overcooked. Maybe it was a Monday thing. The wrong starter was brought but we didn't ask for it changed because we had waited ages and were starving! Generally the service was really slow and not particularly friendly.
Stunning food but service not so good- food didn’t come for 2 hours. And lots of desserts not on the menu. Great atmosphere and decor.
The food was fantastic, however, as a table of two, being placed next to a loud table of 8 with several small children was really undesirable. When we were moved we were taken to a table by a door that was very cold. The service wasn’t very attentive, we waited 15 mins for our first drink at the bar, then 15 mins for our first drink at our table. We weren’t offered dessert and were dealt with by a busy and reasonably stressed waiter. The waiter downstairs was very helpful, upstairs was disappointing service up until the point we complained about the bitter cold coming from the front door (which was constantly opening and closing). Despite the service I would absolutely go back, the food and cocktails are exceptional, with a little better service this would be a truly breathtaking establishment!
Unfriendly, uninterested staff. The food was average at best: the poke starter was too salty, on the second attempt it had a really slimy texture and didn't taste good; gravlax was good but the Swedish meatball main lacked flavour. The triple-cooked truffle chips were anaemic and floppy. When we highlighted that to the waiter, he ignored us. If you want good Swedish food, go to Aquavit. Perhaps the staff and the chef were having a bad day because after reading the great reviews we were very disappointed.
Fantastic food, service and ambience. Had a really delicious lunch and would highly recommend
Try to get a table downstairs/in the "conservatory" space. Great atmosphere, thoughtfully decorated with attention to detail throughout. Food is fresh, delicious, and of a really high standard -- perfect for a date or a special dinner with a friend. Try the sprats, or the pumpkin soup to start. Great selection of drinks also! One you will want to return to.
Very disappointed, after reading so many good reviews. Just having a Dala horse on the front of the menu doesn’t make for a Swedish restaurant! None of the staff we encountered were Swedish, and nor was the decor. Surroundings pleasant enough, but the food was not good, and all served on cold plates. My lamb was so rare it was almost bleating (it would have been nice to be asked how I’d like it) and it came with very tough kale and the saddest attempt at Janssen’s Temptation I’ve ever eaten. A friend who had cod merely said politely that was ‘all right’. Unexciting Bakewell Tart for pudding. At £124 for lunch for three, we won’t be going again.
One of my worst dinner experiences ever.
The food was clearly not freshly made. The staff was arguing the whole evening. Got my cocktail when I was finishing my first course. Below average.
This has nothing to do with Sweden & Scandinavia. It’s really a shame.
Honestly horrid service - food was good - but they need serious help with service or no one will return
Exceptional evening really good food ( I had the lamb main and ham hock terrine ) . Vibe is great big cross section of people there . Service was good even though it was busy and the music and ambiance were excellent . Would greatly recommend .
The food is always fantastic - service too, as they accidentally threw away what I asked for to take away, and they made me a new portion just to take home!
Just a brilliant meal with great people and a really nice ambience.
Landed in London at 8:30pm. Went to the hotel feeling really tired and was thinking of not going out, but we had made a reservation for 9:30 and decided to go. So glad we did. The setting was lovely, the ambiance was perfect, the service was very good and the food was delish! We even asked for the recipe for the pumpkin soup. Would recommend this restaurant highly.
Lovely staff, great atmosphere & fantastic cocktails. Would certainly return.
Well executed dishes, friendly service, had a lively time.
Good Scandinavian food, helpful staff, worth a visit
Lovely cosy ambience at The Harcourt with the conversion of a local pub. Fabulous fresh food served with panache. Quite pricey, but the quality was superb and we'd return for another special meal
We had a delicious Sunday Lunch with attentive service and a friendly atmosphere
We had a lunch with friends, this included 2 babies in their buggies - the restaurant had selected a table for us we could fit the buggies around it. The head chef is from Finland and so am I - due to this he personally came to say to hello to us when we arrived. This was a nice, personal touch, really appreciated. The fish starters gravlax (a real Scandinavian delicacy) and sea bream poke were excellent. On the menu there of course is the meatballs and cinnamon buns - and some amazing cocktails. The private room on the back of the restaurant looks amazing, perfect for a birthday party, babyshower or a small wedding.
I was visiting the UK and wanted a quiet pkace to eat with good food and attractive surroundings and I felt The Harcourt tjcked all the boxes.
Fantastic! Cocktails were particularly good. The garden room is lovely and the service was impeccable.
Some standout cooking marred by indifferent front of house service - but this is a pub, I guess. Our visit started badly through opentable's booking engine accepting a booking for 5.30 when the kitchen didn't open till 6 - a bad mistake for pre-show dining.
The good standout bits : big solid brass topped tables, heavy napkins, beautiful menus and drinks lists ; friendly staff (though not all of them equally familiar with the offer - I had ginger beer when Ale was asked for); the highlights were a truly exceptional rump of lamb - how this meat had been prepared was some kind of alchemy: there were hints of smoke and rosemary but the meat was wonderfully tender, young and game -ily flavoursome. And heritage beetroot was a great dish. Other Scandi classics (reindeer carpacchio, gravadlax) were fine but this side of exceptional. Go for the lamb alone though!
Nice relaxing restaurant with an excellent menu. Not too overpriced but defo more than casual dining.
