The Hart Street Tavern
Prawn cocktails delicious, red cabbage VERY vinegary, steaks a bit tough, sticky toffee pudding great
The location was lovely and the general ambience of the restaurant was good. The food was nice especially the steak! But the price generally was expensive £10 for a prawn cocktail with the smallest prawns in the world is just a bit much!!! As stated the steak was very good. Choice of wine was extensive.
Overall a nice experience but for 2 course and a bottle of wine £130 but pricey !
We were sat very near to the piano so it was quite noisy but a very good lively atmosphere. If you want to have a quiet meal and talk, check first if it’s a live music night.
delicious food, friendly efficient service and a buzzing vibe. Great night out
Great place to eat, locally sourced food cooking really well and good service.
Seems to be getting better every time we go! Oysters had a beautiful dressing on them something I’ve never had before and I’ve had a lot of oysters so compliments to the chef !
Steak cooked to perfection with delicious caesar salad fries and sauce! Excellent cocktails, great staff and we had a lovely night.
My only comment is we were originally taken to the back of the restaurant and round the corner which is very dark and out the way of everyone and everything which is not why you go to a restaurant you want ambience so we said we didn’t want to sit there. That area has no ambience and is far too dark it needs to be made to feel part of the restaurant.
It’s been a very long time since we’ve had to leave a restaurant due to poor service, but after 1.5hrs of no food, no reasonable explanation and other guests equally exasperated, we got up and left. Hats off the the lady in charge of service, she was hugely apologetic, but seemed totally powerless - apparently the chef was having a moment and refused to communicate with the waiting staff... that was all on top of a leaking roof above our table and the wrong drinks brought to the table (corrected promptly it has to be said). I would strongly recommend avoiding the Hart Street Tavern until they have a new chef and new management in place who can make the most of what is a brilliant location. Real shame.
Had a great evening bit slow to take order because it was very busy. Food was great lively atmosphere and staff attentive.
Food was delicious and the service was great. Couldn’t fault the evening.
This is a fabulous restaurant with a modest yet luxurious menu that perfectly suited the understated yet classy and sophisticated vibe within the restaurant itself. On the particular evening we visited (Valentine's Day) there was a pianist and double bassist playing together and it was wonderful, it perfectly complimented the romantic vibes of the day and was a delight to listen to. The food was delicious, the steak in particular was exceptional with my boyfriend saying it was "the best steak he ever had". I would recommend this restaurant to absolutely anyone, and it would be perfect for a light lunch or an indulgent dinner and anything in between. I'm already planning my next trip!
Lovely restaurant with great food and drink choices.
This was our second visit and the food and service was again excellent.
This was a very disappointing experience. The salads with the steaks were smothered in too much sauce making this salad in edible. The menu was very limited with no dishes including white meat.
Beautiful food, lovely and well presented restaurant. Sunday service quite slow.
Great atmosphere, attentive staff and delicious food. What more could you ask for?!
Service was not good at all, wouldn’t recommend
Excellent food and service. Best place in Henley for lunch.
This was our first visit to Hart St after a recommendation and as it was my daughter’s 8th birthday we were all really looking forward to it.
We weren’t greeted or acknowledged when we arrived despite having booked and there being plenty of waiting staff and very few diners. However once seated the staff were friendly and attentive. My youngest daughter is gluten free and this was catered for without a problem.
The olives and battered gerkhins on the starter menu were very good.
We asked for medium cooked burgers for the children but both arrived tough and burnt and one of the buns was also burnt inside.
The children’s food came before ours and it seemed the kitchen waited until the children had finished their meals before sending ours which sadly meant we couldn’t all eat together.
The ribs had a pre packaged taste to them and were dry and the fish cake was extremely salty.
This is all such a shame as it came so highly recommended to us and it was our first visit.
The place is beautifully designed and with a roaring fire, open kitchen and large bar appears to be very welcoming, it has great potential but sadly fell short of expectations on our visit. Style over substance.
It is very much needed in Henley, great atmosphere, the food is good enough but could be better, starters are a bit boring. The smoked salmon starter is very mean on the salmon one small slice!!, not well presented with a couple of slices of white bread that tasted of blankets £9 !! The crayfish cocktail was good as was the Venison , very tasty , though nothing exceptional. I t was very busy on a Saturday night, great atmosphere but not brilliant service and 3 extra beers added to our bill.
I have been during the week and its been better.
Service was very good. Food was delicious although burger slightly overcooked. Ribs were excellent.
Fantastic evening out with family
Very busy restaurant but a beautiful relaxed atmosphere
Service from Front and Back of House amazing
Thanks for a fantastic meal
A friend loves this place so suggested we go, but, we didn’t find our experience matched theirs..
Seated at the back where the ambience was poor I didn’t much like our cafe table in a badly lit corner of the conservatory area. The waitress was friendly and the food came quickly. The Welsh Rarebit was a big hot bit the other two starters a disappointment, but the real let down was our steak main course which arrived cold. On asking for it to be sorted out it came back on a hot plate but still cold. Not uncooked, just colder than it should have been.
Deserts, creme brûlée and a sticky toffee pudding were great.
A fairly expensive evening for some so-so food. We are unlikely to make the trip to Henley again just to eat there.
I love the Hart Street Tavern, fabulous food & attentive staff. However, I have one issue........all spirits are served in 50ml measures. This is highlighted in the drinks menu but if like me you know what you want you don’t look at the drink options so you are unaware of this. Not only is it more costly having doubles but also slightly devious......The reason I discovered this fact was due to checking that a gin & tonic was correctly priced at £10......
Relaxed dining in a friendly environment. Always a good recommendation.
Four of us had Saturday lunch at The Hart Street Tavern. The setting, decor, and ambience were fantastic, and the service pretty rapid. Loved the long bar and the light fittings. Once at the table, I was a bit nonplussed with the small menu and it took me a while to find something I liked the sound of. Very little in the way of interesting vegetarian courses, if that's what you wanted. Quality of the food was fairly good, not noteworthy. Price was OK, £25 per head for a main course and non-alcohol drinks. I think THST should take a leaf out of Copa Club's book, and provide a limited but well structured menu. Will return, and hope for a different menu.
Had a date in the evening. We arrived on time and staff greeted us at the door, showed us to our table, gave us options of tables. Brought water and gave us time to look at the menu. The menu was very plain looking, having been printed on an A4 sheet, could be improved as far as presentation goes. Service was good, we had ample time to choose the menu. Starters came fast. We had the rarebit, which was 4/5, and the smoked salmon, which was adequate 3/5. For the price it could’ve been presented nicer. Mains were delicious. We had the ribs presented on a wooden board which was a nice touch, fell off the bone, well seasoned and well cooked. The skinny chips were nice too but nothing remarkable. The cauliflower curry was the veggie choice, it was fine, not too spicy, could’ve used some extra heat.
They do have the best steak in Town if not in England! Great combination, Sirloin, French Fries and delicious Cesar Salad.
The waitress was really friendly and helpful, such a nice person and the food overall was fantastic. I had SaltPig N’duja which was really tasty then the Tavern Burger which had a delicious sauce and the fries were great. For pudding I had the chocolate mousse but with vanilla ice cream instead of the original. The meal was fantastic, however someone I was with had the bread and butter pudding which was the only downside of the evening as it was more like a hot fruit cake. Overall it was an incredible evening and would highly recommend!
The Sea Bream fish was perfect , very tasty & well cooked. I would be happy to have that meal again. The wine, coffee & chocolate Bon bons were good. I look forward to my next meal at the Hart Street Tavern.
Just love the ambience in Hart Street love the live music and everyone seems to be having a good time! Good food and service !
The restaurant was quite empty although I was told that it was almost full when I booked.
Fabulous shoulder of lamb shared between us and so much we took doggy bags home with us too. Delicious Sunday lunch.
Great staff, ambience etc. Slightly slow from the kitchen but understandable as very busy. Overall great night
Lovely early evening business dinner on a Monday night, but was actually surprisingly quite busy. Shows how popular it is in the short time it has been open.
overpriced and shortcuts on the food. The prawn cocktail is a joke
Excellent food - fish cake and mussels. Lovely desserts. Great service and lovely decor.
Food excellent and a decent menu to choose from.
Service very good and we wanted for nothing.
Great atmosphere ! Friendly helpful staff and delicious food and cocktails! We had a fabulous evening ! Love the live music !!
Booked for Brunch but needn't have worried as was very quiet.
Food was ok but did not sing, have had better eggs Benedict elsewhere.
