The venue is unique, quirky and full of character. There is ample seating both inside and out. Service was unhurried but friendly, the coffee and food excellent. The only aspect that detracted from our experience was the loud background music, which we assumed was to create atmosphere if the place was quiet. As the Hatter and the Hare is extremely popular (there was a queue to get in!) this was unnecessary, and just made everyone have to talk louder.
We had the celebration platter which was amazing for 3 adults perfect size with some left overs. Love that it has desert cakes included!
Iced latte Coffee was gorgeous served in a very pretty glass. Lots of love in this special place.
I loved the food (good proportions), the staff were great, the ambience was lively. The only complaint I have is the fairly close seating (even during the tighter COVID regulations) - I would love if Hatter&Hare was more spacious or had less seats.
Always fabulous. Another great meal. Love the new outdoor area.
The Decore , service and food were fantastic. The dogs barking from a table seated behind us was not . Also the dog jumped up onto the bench seat behind us which was disconcerting as one of our party is allergic to dog hair .
Neither good nor bad, was quite expensive and will probably wait a while before going again
The food is great and delicious. Not much option for people with fructose intolerance. Service was ok - some waiters/waitresses are friendlier or more helpful than others. Depends on your luck.
Be prepared to wait for your table which you have booked for at a specific time. Parking is difficult to find there on weekend as it is usually very busy.
The food was amazing, great coffee. Beautiful setting inside and outside of the restaurant, friendly staff! Highly recommended !
First time here. Very impressed with their quality of customer service and delectable selection of food and desseets. Will be back.
Poached eggs were not hot, the toast wasn’t toasted, it had no colour at all, got a waffle instead of a hash brown. The sides and sauces are expensive at $4 each. One breakfast ( full English style) finished up being $35. And the aircon was blowing straight on us and it was already a cool wet day. Remember to ask for hot coffee. Overall disappointed this tis time.
As always amazing but we waited nearly 40 mins for food and with only a 1 hour 15 mins sitting we were rushed to actually eat and order a coffee to finish. Sorry not long enough ! Food is great as always and had to buy cakes before leaving so again it all felt very rushed at the register to pay and purchase as being rushed out the door for next sitting.
We have both tried most dishes. All wonderful. Coffee fabulous.
I enjoyed meeting up with some friends for the first time after corona lockdown!
I've been to Hatter and Hare quite a few times. This time I had issues with my booking. Staff member was helpful and sorted it out but was waiting outside for 15 mins with 82 year old whilst staff had to find a table for my group. Food came, sticky date waffle and waffles were cold and looked like a big clump of sticky date mixture had been plonked on top. Standard was ceetainly nowhere near what I've experienced previously. Staff were super friendly and helpful. We received complimentary cakes at the end which was lovely. Just pointing out that experience was not quite up to scratch.
Aesthetically pleasing place, beautiful interior and well presented and tasty food. Staff are especially friendly and attentive. Would highly recommend.
We loved our waiter with odd socks ;)
Food was amazing
Food was delicious and very filling. They made a wonderful flat white with almond milk and the atmosphere was friendly. Had to listen harder to hear what my colleague was saying as it was a bit noisy. I would recommend anyone who hasn't tried The Hatter and the Hare to at least try it once.
Great food, was very busy but staff were very professional. Would have been nice to have a table with a better view instead of tucked behind the kitchen, and 75mins booked time limit was probably a little short for us but otherwise really enjoyed it. Great experience!
As always, it was delightful and delicious. Im always recommending it.
The food was very delicious, and the portion size was value for money. The staff was very friendly and ambience very inviting. We will definitely be back to try other dishes and more desserts!
Disappointed in the lunch menu. I would only go back for coffee & dessert. Our table was in a disappointing area with no ambience even as I had booked a week in advance.
First lunch out with my wife since we’d come out of lockdown
Been waiting a while to try this place out and the food was perfect, very filling and great value
Definitely coming back and I’ll try for an inside table because I really want to get the ambiance experience from dining inside
Totally understand that COVID measures are in place
Well done, great staff keep it going guys!
Love Hatter and the Hare, food and service is always exceptional, ambience is usually great, booked for an out door table not realising, it was set up in car park, unfortunate due to covid, looking forward to dining in the new outdoor area when it is finished
The great names given to the meals made our choice very easy.
Quick, efficient, friendly and helpful! Food arrived fast and delicious!
So happy to dine in again👏😁, have missed the Hatter and the Hare during lockdown but have enjoyed some yummy home deliveries!!
Great atmosphere, quirky menu, delicious flavours and excellent coffee. Really wanted to finish off brunch with one of the divine looking cakes but was too full...oh well looks like we’ll have to visit again soon!
Delicious food, good variety so you have options depending on what you feel like eating, and cater to many different dietary requirements. The presentation of the food is gorgeous and it is well-priced considering the quality and taste.
Not to mention how beautiful the decor is!
Totally over rated. The cakes are the best thing about this venue unfortunately. The photos that you can take are great and makes for a great instagram story but thats it. We had booked at 2pm for a party of 7 for Miss 12's birthday, 5 adults and 2 children and there were no other time slots available. I mentioned it to the waitress and also when I booked that we were celebrating a birthday. They never acknowledged it or Miss 12 even though she had an it’s my bday badge on and was so excited to be there for her bday. Thought they could have at least stuck a candle in one of the cakes or something, 4 of the adults left their food and nobody commented on the fact that the plates were full and we didn't eat them. We had 3 girls clearing the tables so no consistency to find out who took our orders to tell them some feedback in person rather than here. The Rueben had pickled fermented cabbage which leaked into the fried bread, it was so heavy and oily, my salad bowl had weird flavour combo’s that didn’t work and the tofu scramble was tasteless. The fritters had no flavour either so we started looking for salt and pepper to give everything a lift. So disappointed as so many people had recommended this place. I’d hate to be there when they were busy as there was only about 20 people in the place due to seating restrictions. So sorry to leave a bad review as I hate doing this, but just wanted to be truly honest and hope they lift their game for Christmas. We could have supported so many other struggling businesses, it’s a shame we went to this one.
Always a joy to eat here. Thank you all for your great service.
The food has become over complex and less enjoyable
We arrived at 12:30 on Saturday with my 2 girls, for nice lunch and cakes, and there were only 7 little cakes left, 2 varieties. We end up eating brownies that we could have bought around the corner.
If you go to a place known for their patisserie, you cannot not have stock for your clients at 12:30 on a Saturday. And they confirmed they will not re-stock either. Food was ok, but too complicated for kids taste and mostly focus to vegan. For the price and the risk, I would not be returning for lunch in. Maybe take away, and place order ahead. Not worth the risk.
Always love it! Really missed dropping in for a coffee and some divine food during lockdown... so glad lockdown is over... but the 1 hour and 15 minutes sitting rules make eating in a bit stressful and rushed...
I have been here a few times, as it is busy the staff are slow on delivering the food/drinks.
My coffee wasn't hot, it was lukewarm, as I have a sensitive stomach the food didn't sit well (probably due to food not served quickly). The portion is generous which is a plus and good quality produce used.
That being said the staff was friendly and the interior design looks amazing.
First time visitor but definately not the last !!
Great service and lovely ambiance
Enjoyed a very nice breakfast for two. Food and coffee were up to usual high standard and it was good to be able to book a time.
Delicious food as always. Not quite the atmosphere of old with the tables spread far and wide. Never the less still enjoyable.
It was first time visiting from other side of town and was so excited. Our booking changed due to a computer glitch even though we booked 3 weeks prior. Pictures on Facebook showed that interior looked whimsical but on visiting bordered on creepy and old. We only saw waiting staff to order and then when meals came out. The biggest disappointment was that by the time we had lunch there were no cakes left for us to order. It would have been nice to be warned to order these early. My gnocchi was nice but not a standout, but was expecting to finish meal with a dessert. Not worth the 1 hour traveling time. Left bitterly disappointed after seeing pictures of the cakes online.
The food is always delicious, the service was quick and very friendly
Fav cafe in Melbourne.
Hidden gem amidst industrial Bayswater.
