Our experience in the Herb and Herd was really lovely. The ambience of the place is beautiful. The food was delicious and the attention given to our party was good even though they had a lot of people in.

Having visited 2 weeks prior this visit in comparison was a let down. The service although very friendly was very slow. When we queried where the veg was for our main meals it seem to have been overlooked andwhat was brought was a bowl of new potatoes with sprouts mixed.

We have dined at the Herd and Herd many times and always enjoy the experience. However, we have found that during the last few visits the standard of the food presented has declined. In the early days, the quality was definitely Fine Dining, however, more recently the taste and variety have been ordinary, to say the least. Have a look at the current menu and compare it with the very early editions!! After our first visit, we wrote that you were one of the best restaurants in Durham, sadly not any more which is a shame considering your location.

We went for a cosy lunch on a very cold day this week. The restaurant was cold which thoroughly spoilt the occasion for our party of 4 despite keeping coats on and wrapping scarves round. Food was nice, nothing special, although the chips were some of the best we’ve had. The service was slow, which would have been fine if we had not been so cold. The coffee which was ordered with the dessert never arrived. We may possibly return, on a warm day!

A must visit if youre on the area. The menu is concise yet offers variety and the food is of high quality in terms of produce and cookery. Service is very good and the staff are attentive. The environment is more bistro than fine dining (great generic playlist for background music - not classical) , but the food is beyond bistro quality. Noise levels were a bit higher than normal for this visit due to Christmas party time. But it added to a festive feel. Overall it is great value for money. Definitely recommend.

Food well presented - staff attentive - food was good value - negatives - lack of ambience - noise seemed to amplify perhaps due to open plan design - minor point staff did not offer to take my coat and had to drape it over back of my chair.

Decor, food, and ambience excellent. Took quite some time for service and a good hour to get our first course, which was a long time, but overall lovely. Food was gorgeous. Would definitely revisit.

The food is absolutely lovely here and the manager Paul is great. We did have to wait just under an hour for our main course and the service was poor from other members of staff. They were sat around talking when my partner and I had asked for extra gravy and had to wait 10 minutes until a younger female server helped us. The two young girls working on Sunday were brilliant as well as the owner however the other management come across as lazy and I didn’t really see them do anything! I was disappointed with this visit.

The Sweet Potato Soup with Ginger followed by the Mushroom Pasta wasn't the best mix of tastes but I fault for ordering them!! The Sourdough Bread wasn't the best & could have done with some butter. Very busy & we were tucked around the corner so got forgotten about a couple of times! Alround Nice place, Good Food Selection & Atmosphere Deserts could do with at bit more choice & Variety Maybe diffrent / better Crackers with the Chease Board or am I been too picky!!

Our first visit to restaurant and was for a family birthday treat for my daughter. Lovely restaurant with a laid back but attentive vibe. Staff very friendly and food we delicious. Everybody enjoyed the evening and would have no problem in visiting again in future.

A very good Sunday lunch somewhat spoiled by being moved to a terrible table in the corner next to kitchen door (despite being booked well in advance for a celebration.)Seemed to have a good number of staff but very slow to take orders however once ordered food arrived promptly and was great.
