The High Field
Facing Simpson's, with two patios to catch the sun at all times, and a private leafy garden hidden behind, The High Field will have a buzzing bar, a smart eatery overlooking the gardens and a light contemporary orangery. Upstairs we are creating a flexible space for entertaining and business conferences.

Amazing food...great service....The place has a super location and great atmosphere. Cant wait to return
Very good food and service, great environment, very clean and welcoming. Situated in a very nice area of Edgbaston. Highly recommend.
A second visit to the lovely High Field! This time was a lovely early evening birthday meal for dad’s 80th! A really nice ambience and in my godmother’s old family home where she was born and brought up.
Lovely service and our waitress was brilliant - and attentive when needed. A good menu selection and good wine! They were able to cater to a youngster with rather fussy food fads! They were even happy and helpful to bring in a birthday cake that we sneaked in for the occasion. As the night wore on, it was eventually busy with Saturday evening revellers enjoying the bar and outside terrace. Highly recommended.
Bit expensive for the food you get. Very busy.
Excellent customer service here as always. Team were happy to put back our table for an hour to accommodate latecomers. First day of the new menu and the staff were knowledgeable about the dishes and able to recommend. Food was fresh and well presented and there was a nice buzz for a midweek get together with friends. Recommended!
Well we were 4 girls, only had one course and table was booked for 8... sat down a bit late as had drink, so prob nearly 8.30. Only ordered main and served at 10pm!!!
Totally ridiculous and we were so fed up waiting - I had veg risotto which only had peas and weird bean things - cud have had all delicious and colourful veg, especially this time of year so was pretty boring to be honest. I love the Highfield but this was pretty disappointing... hopefully next time is better :)
Not very impressed. The main course was tepid and served on barely warm plates. Then, having given us dessert menus, the waiting staff made no attempt to take our order for desserts. Eventually we had to wave at one of them to get some attention.
The restaurant was very noisy and so not really conducive to conversation, which is one of the points of going out.
All in all, not what I would expect. We paid our bill and left. We shall not be back.
I have visited the highfield on a few occasions now and have never been disappointed. The sunday dinnrr sss fabulous, the wine perfect, the gin delicious and the ambience perfect.
As a long standing patron of the high field I feel pained to leave a bad review.....but
We had a twilight zone experience - seems they took on a load of new staff who were poorly trained, couldn’t even use the till properly to place our food order and smashing glassware every 5 minutes.
Food order came twice and when I tried to pay the bill had to explain how the tab system worked to the person behind the bar! (Customer training the bar staff - not good).
The bill was wrong too so had to get that corrected.
All the tables were not being cleared leaving filthy dishes everywhere
Granted it was a busy service but no excuse for this level of incompetence - please, please, please fix ASAP - I want come back but not while it is in it’s current state :-(
A good venue and always enjoy going there for lovely food.
Very good food, friendly staff.
Fab food, fab price, lovely atmosphere, didn't feel rushed
Thank you for a lovely mother’s day Sunday lunch. A great afternoon.
Birthday and Mother’s Day with my family . Loved it great service , great food ! Didn’t get my birthday drink but had the best day !!
The Spring menu doesn't have the lovely plaice fillets or shoulder of lamb or mushroom risotto which is a huge pity. I ordered the spring vegetable risotto thinking it would be as delicious as the mushroom risotto but it was very bland and tasted like boiled rice with a few peas thrown in. What a disappointment. I don't know if I will be returning again in Spring or if I will wait until they change the menu again in Summer. Sunday roasts are always very good, hopefully that won't have changed !!
I go fairly often as its close to work.
Went for Saturday night dinner. Starter was really nice, the recommended creme egg cake thing was grainy and unpleasant, but my £28 rib eye steak was the biggest disappointment, decidedly average and served with the pale under cooked chips and a cold Bearnaise sauce. The waitress was lovely, (in fact all of the staff here always are), and got me some different chips but they were again pale and under cooked, but she was so nice i hadn't the heart to complain again.
I'd say its fine for lunch when you're eating from the 2 course for £12(ish) option, but id have to say, considering i spent £140 for 2 people, i feel like i got really bad value for money. I certainly will not be returning again for pleasure, but it wont stop me coming when work are picking up the tab.
Warm welcome on a bitterly cold winters evening.
Nice ambiance and good selection of tracks on the background music, not the most extensive menu but enough to have a varied choice.
I had the chillie linguine, my better half had the deep fried Camembert both being very nice. For main I had the sea bass risotto which was also nice with the other main being a larger version of the linguine.
We had floater whiskey coffees to end as we were full.
All in all a very nice experience thank you.
First visit to Highfield and enjoyed a good Sunday roast in vibrant surroundings! Will return soon I hope
Food was great, little let down by the waiting staff, were pretty miserable till it came to paying the bill, I didn’t leave a tip as I felt it was too little to late. At one point a waitress practically threw the plate in front of another diner, was very surprised by this kind of behaviour in such a nice restaurant.
Great food, good atmosphere, service good but lacked attentiveness - had to chase for service , desert menus and bill.
Nice restaurant but the table we had for four was very close to other tables. Staff in general were very friendly but our waitress was less friendly and rather ‘matter of fact’
Maybe my expectations were too high but it really did not live upto them. Venue was good and service the same but the food was a let down. Trying to be fair the starter and desert were both good but my steak was poor - it was not worth causing a scene on Valentines night but it was a let down
The girl who served our table was excellent and possible one if best we have ever had ten out if ten
Good food and trendy place
Service was very good this time around. Food wasn’t.
The bloomer with garlic bread was terrible. Bread seemed stale. It was hard inside the loaf so I’m assuming it had been microwaved. It arrived barely warm with ice cold garlic butter that we couldn’t spread. Huge fail.
Sunday roast was just okay. Portion size was decent. Yorkshire pud was okay. Vegetables were okay. Pork was the thin sliced variety... akin to what you’d find on a supermarket deli counter.
The price, while not high, meant I’d expect to receive something better than what they’re serving. I’ve had meat that tasted more authentic at a cheap carvery.
I’ve since discovered that they offer “bottomless” Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes and vegetables and that a server offers them at your table. We were offered no extras and at no point was it made clear that we could have had more. So maybe I overrated the service.
Excellent food and service as usual
Visited The High Field a couple of times now both with and without my 4 children and both experiences have been great. The Sunday lunch is beautiful, the surroundings are quirky, clean and very inviting and the staff are extremely attentive and accommodating ( especially with kids!!) .... would definitely recommend, great little find.😊
Great service, nice ambience and good food. Vegetarian menu selection slightly was the only thing that slightly let it down. Would definitely go back
One of the best breakfasts we have found In Birmingham
This is not the first time I've been disappointed with the service at The High Field and I don't plan to return again. The place itself is lovely and the food is good, if not a little overpriced. Its biggest downfall is the service. The staff are in serious need of training. The wait on food is far too long and staff waiting on tables are often unprofessional and not at all attentive.
The food is nice but I have been to other restaurants offering the same standard of food at better value and much better service.
Excellent service from initial entry to paying the bill
Nice relaxed atmosphere no rush
Food and drinks very good
Thank you for having us. Really enjoyed the black pudding salad to start and fish cakes for main.
Out table was situated in the middle of the restaurant, people walking past constantly, cold draft, very noisey. Food (roast lamb) was luke warm, roast potatoes over cooked and our meze platter starter comprised ready items from the freezer.
Very enjoyable meal. Good value. Very good and friendly service.
Well cooked food served by friendly and helpful staff. Really enjoyed it. Highly recommended
We went on the 23rd December and it was fairly quite considering the time of year. Despite this, the food was fairly average. When this place is pricing itself at the high end of gastropub, there are definitely better places to dine - more value for money and quality of food. This is not the first time I've been here and on all three occasions (not of my choosing) I haven't been impressed.
Very helpful and good service. Food was good. Noisy but then a very busy time before Christmas.
After visiting the Highfield on a couple of occasions for drinks we decided to eat there with my stepson last Friday evening when he came up to Birmingham... We were disappointed!!! Food I thought was really average to poor.... Moreover I was extremely shocked that there was NO toilet paper in the ladies toilets whatsoever. When I returned downstairs I pointed it out to a staff member I was actually even more disgusted that when I visited the ladies again approx 40 mins later, there was still no loo roll...absolutely unacceptable on such as busy pre- Xmas night in an establishment portraying to be somewhat on the high end of the scale in terms of class and prices. Tbh not sure we'll be back.
Lovely way to spend a Saturday lunchtime with friends
Another excellent meal with prompt and helpful service. Very pleased.
Great place....lovely surroundings and good food. Very baby friendly. Good informal atmosphere. It may have initially lost custom to the Physician but I am sure clients will have returned as it is a much more relaxed friendly venue
