Tasty food, attentive service and great understanding that we had to get away for the cricket international. This was our second visit and we’ll be back again.

We had the steak and ale pie which was good, but the greens were only a portion of stringy something we though might be kale or spinach, but were told on enquiry were green cabbage. Pretty inedible. The starter of olives was only one variety and very bitter.

First time at the the High Field. Lovely, friendly staff and a pleasant ambiance. My wife enjoyed her cod, miso and rice, and the bottle of Primitivo we shared was reasonably priced and had a decent amount of tannins and plenty of red berry fruit flavours. Unfortunately, my Shepherd's Pie was exceptionally poor. All that I could find under the potato was gravy. I can only assume that any minced lamb that had been used to cook this dish had been pureed. To be honest, it probably didn't compete with a £2.50 micro-wave meal from Iceland. My wife's Sticky Toffee Pudding was bland, but the cheeseboard offered small slices of an excellent mature cheddar, a delicate blue and and a lovely goats cheese. Just a pity that only five tiny, wafer-thin biscuits - no bigger than a Ritz cracker - accompanied the cheeses. I might give the High Field another chance, but the food does need to improve.

enjoyed a wonderful fish dinner - one fish and chips and one miso cod with black rice on a Friday night - washed down by a glass of white wine followed by delicious desserts of blueberry Eton mess and baked Alaska. busy but not too noisy, food well presented and tasty. good to see the new spring menu. never disappointed here.

Lovely building with a spacious dining area; beautifully lit. Wonderful guest service from start to finish. Loved the menu options, lots of local favourites alongside more upscale offerings. The ham croquettes + celariac puree was my favourite dish of the evening. Lamb rump was cooked perfectly pink. Delicious cocktails too. Waitress who attended to us was an absolute gem. Would dine here again, possibly for brunch next time.

Lovely food and staff. Front door allowed too much cold air in when opened making the whole room cold and draughty.

Waited a while to be seated. Didn't find the host particularly welcoming but put it down to the fact it was a busy afternoon. The waiting staff was attentive. After a long wait for the starters, the food was above average. Another long wait for the main meal. The roast was average, the lamb was fatty but the rest was good. The trout was a small fillet with 6 halved potatoes and a small handful of rocket for £25 poor value for money and did not look appetising. I was disappointed. Likely to try elsewhere in the future.
