The Hollybush Ratings and Reviews
I have had a number of evening meals here and the food has always been delicious with great service.
I have had more lunches here, the menu is slightly different in the day time, I really like this menu, it's excellent value and it's a quieter time for relaxed discussion.
The staff are always warm and helpful. The coffee is made just how you like it. If I could offer constructive feedback on the wine, I would like to see a really dry Chablis and a rich Pino Noir Rose but everyone has specific wine tastes and there's also great beers available...
Met friends for lunch good atmosphere and great service. We all ordered the sandwiches which were really good, fresh bread with plenty of filling. The food that was being brought to the other tables looked very good with a varied menu but I would say the fish and chips was obviously the favourite. Will definitely recommend and return.
Very tasty meal, found the gravy on sunday lunch was very tasty although just a bit to flavoured. would have liked to have a bit more on the plate , meat was beautifully cooked and tender, would have prefered a bit more variety in the veg. Not all deserts were avaliable as sold out, so didn't have much of a choice. but a nice meal. would go again, even if it was rather expensive for Sunday Lunch.
Enjoy this place which is right on our doorstep and took some friends along On this visit. Food was good as usual, staff friendly and good drinks selection. Only thing I would say is there was only one vegetarian option which was a shame as a friend was vegetarian. That said, as a meat eater I would defiantly return.
Good, friendly service and good food. Unfortunately they had run out of the vegetarian roast dinner and didn't have anything else on the menu to cater for vegetarians. They offered pasta or risotto but no description of what each one was which made neither sound very appealing!
Had a really good hot filling Sunday lunch with good service the week before even though it was really busy so took friends on a midweek evening. Staff friendly, and efficient bar staff with a good range of beers and lager. Draft Gem was excellent as was the Estella.
The menu wasn’t very exciting or much choice. We were really stuck and ended up with fish and chips and a roast chicken meal that was supposed to have “crispy potatoes” but they were in a tomatoe bean sauce. Very nice but not what the description suggested. It was 8pm and fairly quiet but the food took ages to arrive. I eventually asked where it was as I could not see anyone else eating.
When it arrived the food was good and tasty. The restaurant and bar area are relaxing and smart. The menu just needs a revamp and updating on the website as sadly there was no pork belly listed that 2 of us had gone for.
Average food and a little over priced. It was a busy Friday night...but food was still a long time arriving. Mixture of good and average dishes. End bill seemed to be quite high for a group of 8 with not that many drinks. Good polite and tentative staff though.
Food was lovely but it took so long to come out (over an hour between started and main) that our toddler had fallen asleep so missed out on his meal! This isn’t the first time we have been here and had poor, slow service, we had decided to give it another try but won’t be going back again. It’s a shame because it’s a lovely pub and the adults food was lovely
We both ordered vegetarian meals and found them very disappointing. Firstly, one of the dishes I'd seen on the website menu was no longer on the menu at the pub (website menu needs updating!) which was unfortunate, as that was the dish I'd hoped to order. I ordered the tagliatelle with mushrooms instead, which arrived swimming in a bright yellow sauce of butter and/or cheese (not mentioned on the menu) and was heavy and unappealing. My partner ordered the butternut squash risotto, which was again very heavy and not particularly tasty. Both dishes were monotonous and desperately needed some steamed vegetables (why do vegetarian dishes so often lack vegetables?!) to add variety and colour, and lighten them up a bit. I've had a vegetarian meal at the Hollybush before (I think it was a vegetable tagine or similar) and that had been OK, so we were very disappointed on this occasion.
