Overall, after hearing good things, we left feeling rather let down and disappointed with our experience at the Hollybush. It was unusually busy for a Monday evening, even though it was bingo night. However there were still at least 15-20 people eating, including ourselves. It took 10 minutes for us to receive our drinks after ordering them at the bar, to which they then brought them over to our table. It then took another 20 minutes for our food orders to even be taken. Dirty dishes left by finished customers also were left out for some considerable time after the customer had left, again outlining the staff shortage or lack of leadership. Once our orders were taken, it was then quite clear that the low amount of bar staff affected the restaurant as a chef on 2 occasions, after calling for service, had to personally make their way to the bar and ask for service after not receiving any. Usually poor service can be excused or overlooked in some cases if the food makes up for it, however this was not to be the case. After again waiting a while for our starters, I felt underwhelmed by the pastry cup I’d ordered, which felt bereft of flavour (no seasoning, of that I could taste) however my partner was pleased with her mushroom starter, to which the sauce was good and tasty. Then our mains came, one fish and chips, myself the healthy option in the jambalaya. My partner disliked the fish and chips so much that she left the majority of it untouched and uneaten. The chips looked very unappetising and the fish tasted bland and of nothing. The jambalaya, although sounding delicious on the menu, was very strange. It came out in this jar with a prawn sticking out the top and was just largely consisted of, what tasted like, tinned tomatoes or some form of tomato sauce. The taste for the chicken, prawn and cashew rice was non existent. Overall a lovely setting and good vibes but extremely poor service and bland food let it down. Won’t be coming back to eat, only off social drinks

The staff and food are second to none in Bristol, went to the Ivy last week and the Holybush was better food , better service and half the cost, exceptional value and can’t fault anything

It took an hour just to get our starter which seemed excessive. The prices are excessive, I had the special sea bass at £17 but only got a very small fillet which was very disappointing. Other meals that my party had were also very small for the prices charged. On a plus point, the staff were very friendly.

Food was very nice, service was good (see below) and overall a nice meal. My moan was the seating. It was a really uncomfortable chair and the waiter asked us if we wanted the bill as soon as we said we didn't want dessert rather than us asking . So felt rushed to leave.

We may have chosen the wrong night, but the service was very very slow. The food was excellent when we got it, although the kitchen ran out of batter for the onion ring - how can you do that? The layout of the restaurant area does not allow for easy conversation. We may try for a lunch another time, but will not be back for dinner.

Right on our doorstop so an ideal place to pop out to eat. We have eaten here on a number of occasions. The only downside I would say is on odd occasion that can let the side down is speed of service - 45 minute wait is pushing things a bit & lacks a bit of proactiveness in keeping you informed . Can't fault food however so will definitely be back.

Have previously used this restaurant and found the food to be reliably tasty and well presented, however it seems that there has been a change in the kitchen as the food on this occasion was well below average and may well prevent me returning for a while. Shame, as it was always a 'go-to' location.

Very busy lively pub and good atmosphere. Can take a while for food and service when busy. But nice friendly waiting staff. Food is good but not great. But nice pub, nice staff good parking and clean toilets. Would recommend as good local for a drink or food. Didn’t have the option to tip when paying with card machpine which was disappointing as rarely have cash - the service was worthy of a tip. Would be helpful to know waiting staff names so thanks could be passed on. Thank you.

Thursday night before Bank Holiday - busy & vibrant!
Pre booked & was shown to a quieter area in a nice spot.
Service (Estee) & food was fantastic, as well as the wine.
We will be returning to this little gem soon.

of the four meals ordered the healthy option curry had to much liquid although tasty the recipient asked for a portion of rice and was told that was not possible but was offered chips, my salmon on crushed potato with broccoli was poor value and the salmon was overcooked and dry, the other meals were acceptable
