Closed for several years, we opened in March 2014 after a major refurbishment. We’re everything you’d wish a country pub to be we have great beer ( 5 real ales, 4 ciders & 5 lagers) , extensive gin list with over 40 types of gin, hand picked wine list and cocktails.
Our restaurant serves classic home cooked dishes using local and seasonal produce. Our meat, veg and fish is delivered fresh everyday and you can sit in comfort in the restaurant and watch our chefs at work in our open plan kitchen.
Excellent pub with good value tasty food, Dog friendly as well
Group of ten ate here for a birthday treat. Staff are professional and very happy, chatty. Food was wonderful, everyone said how nice the food was.
Will be returning in the future for sure.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Service was very good. Sunday lunches were ok, but the roast potatoes and parsnips were a bit dried and tough. Generous amount of delicious gravy helped though. Pressed Lamb was stringy although the roast beef was excellent. Good wine list. Reasonably priced for good quality.
Good food and great service
Delicious food and good price too we as a group of 10 loved it
Excellent food, service and value for money. A great evening! Will definitely be returning, and will happily recommend to others.
Food not particularly good, ordered 1 x Large Cesar salad and 1 x small Cesar salad and chicken, bacon sandwich on white bread.
Absolutely no difference in the sizes of the two salads other than the larger one having considerably more lettuce.
Despite having ordered sandwich on white bread it was served on Granary.
Despite having heard good things about the restaurant it was quite underwhelming.
Went to holy bush restaurant Father’s Day good quality food really enjoyed it & good service !!
Been there a few times now & will go again !!!
For drinks yes as it is a nice place for drinks with friends and if the sun is shinning it has really nice outdoor seating. Not for food though for the portion sizes it is a lot of money and the quality is really no that great. Recent roast only had two slices of meat three potatoes which were hard and limited veg - the Yorkshire was massive and very nice though but tbh it was not enough for my husband.
We booked a table to celebrate Fathers Day (as we have eaten here regularly this year) but we were sadly disappointed on this occasion. Firstly we booked for 12.30pm but did not get served until gone 2pm with no explanation about a wait or delay (we could see it was busy so had guessed there might be a wait but nearly 2 hours seemed unacceptable.) When the food came (we mainly had roast dinners) the carrots were rock hard, the roast potatoes were burnt and the parsnips clearly needed part boiling before roasting. The Kale, the gravy and the beef were delicious. However the lamb rolled pesto looked huge and was presented as a block of shredded meat. The special steak meal looked lovely but the chips were cold. We had 2 children’s meals which also came last (and this has happened before) so I would encourage chef to ensure the children’s meals come out first please. Then desserts came with cold instead of hot custard and came in 3 rounds (2 people finished their dessert when the next 2 received theirs). The service however was generally super (thank you to the waiters and waitresses who were clearly working hard) except we had some desserts served with cutlery and others without. The car park was too small for the amount of customers and bookings taken that day and clearly the kitchen could not cope. Perhaps we will try again when the pub isn’t booked to capacity to see if the roast veg and kitchen speed has improved.
The service was poor even though we were the first to be served Sunday lunch.
The ‘shoestring’ chips with the burger looked like McCain ovens chunky chips, the fish batter was soft and the ‘tomato salsa’ in the burger was a cherry tomato chopped into 4 pieces.
The staff did apologise for the wait and advised of issues with the kitchen, although no one asked how the food was once we were eating.
Not a great experience
Good food, some classics and a few extras on the menu. Good and friendly service. Recommended
Such a shame it was so busy and not enough staff. We ended up ordering ourselves at the bar and paying at the bar, because after 30 minutes no one had taken our order or popped over to say "hello".
Very disappointed that the gluten-free menu did not include a desert. I was not informed of this until time to order desert. We hadn’t had a starter as we were going to have desert. So I was left to just have a coffee with my daughter had her desert. Really not good enough. They did offer to adjust a normal desert to make it gluten-free however I really do not appreciate having to pay full price when items are removed from the dish. Had we been told when we first ordered I would’ve had a starter and main. I did specify on the booking that we would require gluten-free. Very disappointed however the food I did have was lovely
Nice food and good service, shame the cheesecake was not on the menu
Very disappointing - we previously visited & had nothing but great reviews & the food was fantastic. We advocated the Hollybush to many friends & family.
There is a completely different menu now which does not compare to previous. We were seated right by the kitchen which was noisy in general & lots of raised voices from order errors. Starters was messed up & had to cancel one serving as would not come out until the mains were ready! Gammon was water based & poor. The cod & chips was decent & a tasty dish. The burger was good.
Beers & wines were a good choice, but wont be going back again. Shame!
Excellent food and service. Very friendly and welcoming
Lovely Barnsley Chop, done to a turn. Hollybush burger as excellent as ever. Wash it all down with well kept beer and a gorgeous glass of Malbec. Yum!
Good food and friendly service
Good choice of starters for dinner like tapas. Very good and rhubarb dessert a dream
Nice table by the window, good food, good range of drinks but a little spoiled by the length of time we had to wait for our food! We have been to the Holly Bush many times before and service has never been as slow as it was on this visit.
The new menu was amazing, always love the atmosphere and staff are very friendly
The food in the restaurant is really good and decent portions. The service is excellent and the waiting staff are very friendly. It can get a bit noisy if there is a loud party in the restaurant as the tables are close to each other. Overall a really nice friendly Resturant.
Roast dinners on Sunday very hot and miss. Some elements were delicious, but others (including the Yorkshire epidemics and roast potatoes) were cold and dry.
The food was well cooked and flavoursome however a small portion.
We had a roast dinner which came with 3 small, hard roast potatoes and 3! green beans.
Service was very slow too. We sat with dirty plates on our table for 25 minutes.
We would return as the majority of the food we received was good but wouldn’t go for the roast.
Visited on Saturday 13th April. Nice, warm welcome. We had booked in advance but it wasn’t that busy on the day and we were offered a choice of seating. Good selection of lagers & ale, the Butcombe was excellent. Selection of light bites and normal sized meals for lunch. Food served promptly, well cooked pub grub and portions on the generous side. Dog friendly in the bar area but not the restaurant section (we have a dog but that’s fair enough in my book). Would recommend and would definitely return.
Great food brilliant service friendly staff would recommend the hollybush to anyone
Had another fabulous meal. The staff are extremely friendly. Excellent service and great food. Would definitely recommend this pub.
Our third visit and once again the service was excellent, the food was top rate (all three course) all enjoyed with a bottle of very nice chardonnay. We will be back very soon😊
We were given the wrong size table rather than one for 7 we were all squashed on table 6.
After taking are orders the waitress came back to advise they'd ran out of pork and lamb. 5 of us on the table wanted pork. Leaving little left on the menu but chicken or beef!
Had we been told this on arrival we would of not been so disappointed.
The manager then came up too apologise which didnt seem fitting as after he impolitely said are you eating or not very unprofessional very rude.
This was mine my daughters and friends mother's day and it been simply ruined by bad management organisation and rude manners.
It was a struggle at the last minute to get another table so the whole day was ruined.
Table was booked for 5pm they had ample time to prepare their guests.
Food and service was abysmal. My husband’s beef was so rare we thought it was going to walk off the plate. Veg dried up. They had ran out of some of our food choices. We ordered desserts and after waiting 40 mins the waiter realised he had our order in his pocket and hadn’t even put the order in. We were fuming. Manager knocked 20% off the bill but wouldn’t go there again.
We have had far better meals at the holly bush the lamb was tasteless hard roast potatoes food not very warm expected better of them overall experience not very good we have been going to the holly bush for a few years now so we where surprised
Lovely pub, small menu. Meals are abit pricey but they are good quality, especially the white chocolate cheesecske! Yum! Good for special occasions due to the price. Staff are very friendly would visit again.
Nice place to go staff very friendly. Although the food was nice it was a limited menu. My advice would be to look online first at the menu to see what is on offer. There was only one item on the special board.
We had a lovely meal here of Gammon, Egg & chips. Ask if you are Gluten free and they will help. Little bit pricey compared to other places but this is a 'gastro pub, so that's probably why! Can recommend.
As always, lovely food, great service, friendly and helpful staff.
We’d booked a long while ago to join friends at this local pub for a pre-holiday meal but they’d run out of food choices on the already limited menu and also on the specials board as well as running out of our choice of drink!
The manager wasn’t at all helpful and made no attempt to improve a negative situation - a little empathy and a simple ‘sorry’ is all that was needed.
The waiting team remained professional and polite throughout.
They were very welcoming. All the staff were very helpful and attentive.
Nice Sunday lunch but I would prefer more diverse vegetables. Still would go back!
Limited menu. We chose sandwiches but they had ran out of the bread but we were offered ciabatta instead. It was delicious. Service was very good too. Would recommend.
