Closed for several years, we opened in March 2014 after a major refurbishment. We’re everything you’d wish a country pub to be we have great beer ( 5 real ales, 4 ciders & 5 lagers) , extensive gin list with over 40 types of gin, hand picked wine list and cocktails.
Our restaurant serves classic home cooked dishes using local and seasonal produce. Our meat, veg and fish is delivered fresh everyday and you can sit in comfort in the restaurant and watch our chefs at work in our open plan kitchen.
Good food and friendly service
Really good food, service was fantastic. Do not have a bad word!
There needed to be more vegetables with the roast, I would expect more than half a carrot for the money
Lovely Sunday roast! Child’s meal was a good size. Could just do with a small amount more veg but it was good to hear the gravy was gluten free.
Great experience around. Would definitely visit again and recommend to friends and family.
Good food and menu, interesting specials and great service
Lovely food, myself and my partner could not fault it the only wish she had was for it to be abit bigger but i was happy with the size. The lady who sat us down and took our food was outstanding i never caught her name.
As our nearest pub, would love to be able to rate the Hollybush as high as possible. However, although it’s a lovely looking pub and the food is good (if not a little dear) service is really poor. Staff are friendly but waiting times are long and many tables whilst we were there (including us) simply gave up on, for example, ordering more drinks or desserts. Front of house really needs attention. Get this right and it’s a great place.
food was great, pub nice ,went on a Sunday dinner time and sat in exstention, was a bit noisy, will go again in weekday and sit in pub not exstention.
Food was brilliant, we all had Sunday roast and it was beautiful. Service brilliant and our hostess Holly couldn't have been more helpful and welcoming - will be coming again soon!
Love the location, feels like you’re in town. We always bring friends, and highly recommend. Menu changes frequently, being a vegetarian you never get bored 👍
Good atmosphere, attentive service and plenty of menu choice. One our party really liked the gammon steak saying it was the best ever! The pork belly on chorizo and butter bean stew needed more beans and less chorizo to balance the dish, also can’t remember seeing the advertised spring greens on the dish. Would also like to see different white wine varieties apart from the normal Pinot, Chardonnay and Sauvignon.
Great all round. Service very good, even tho it was busy, my Steak was the best l have had for a long time, and the Cheesecake....well, you have to try it!
Will definitely visit again soon.
Lovely food as usual , always enjoy this venue , however on this occasion the staff seemed a little disorganised , we were shown to our reserved table , then another member of staff questioned why we were sat there ? some confusion I think , then our food took absolutely ages to arrive , when it did it was first class as usual, this is very unusual for this venue & I hope it doesn’t happen again
Food very good
Staff very helpful
Portions were very good
I had the the baked plaice and my husband had the pork was very tasty and full of flavour
For starters we had onion bhaji and curried chickpeas and my husband said they were better than our normal curry restaurant
Great food and service and a good menu
Went for the chicken Sunday roast, best roast we have had in a long time.
Treacle tart for dessert was perfect.
Be back next week!
Sunday roast had a good amount of meat but perhaps could have done with a few more vegetables. The dessert was a bit of a small but otherwise good.
Excellent pub with good value tasty food, Dog friendly as well
Food was well presented and hot and the service was excellent
Group of ten ate here for a birthday treat. Staff are professional and very happy, chatty. Food was wonderful, everyone said how nice the food was.
Will be returning in the future for sure.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Service was very good. Sunday lunches were ok, but the roast potatoes and parsnips were a bit dried and tough. Generous amount of delicious gravy helped though. Pressed Lamb was stringy although the roast beef was excellent. Good wine list. Reasonably priced for good quality.
Good food and great service
Delicious food and good price too we as a group of 10 loved it
Excellent food, service and value for money. A great evening! Will definitely be returning, and will happily recommend to others.
Food not particularly good, ordered 1 x Large Cesar salad and 1 x small Cesar salad and chicken, bacon sandwich on white bread.
Absolutely no difference in the sizes of the two salads other than the larger one having considerably more lettuce.
Despite having ordered sandwich on white bread it was served on Granary.
Despite having heard good things about the restaurant it was quite underwhelming.
Went to holy bush restaurant Father’s Day good quality food really enjoyed it & good service !!
Been there a few times now & will go again !!!
For drinks yes as it is a nice place for drinks with friends and if the sun is shinning it has really nice outdoor seating. Not for food though for the portion sizes it is a lot of money and the quality is really no that great. Recent roast only had two slices of meat three potatoes which were hard and limited veg - the Yorkshire was massive and very nice though but tbh it was not enough for my husband.
We booked a table to celebrate Fathers Day (as we have eaten here regularly this year) but we were sadly disappointed on this occasion. Firstly we booked for 12.30pm but did not get served until gone 2pm with no explanation about a wait or delay (we could see it was busy so had guessed there might be a wait but nearly 2 hours seemed unacceptable.) When the food came (we mainly had roast dinners) the carrots were rock hard, the roast potatoes were burnt and the parsnips clearly needed part boiling before roasting. The Kale, the gravy and the beef were delicious. However the lamb rolled pesto looked huge and was presented as a block of shredded meat. The special steak meal looked lovely but the chips were cold. We had 2 children’s meals which also came last (and this has happened before) so I would encourage chef to ensure the children’s meals come out first please. Then desserts came with cold instead of hot custard and came in 3 rounds (2 people finished their dessert when the next 2 received theirs). The service however was generally super (thank you to the waiters and waitresses who were clearly working hard) except we had some desserts served with cutlery and others without. The car park was too small for the amount of customers and bookings taken that day and clearly the kitchen could not cope. Perhaps we will try again when the pub isn’t booked to capacity to see if the roast veg and kitchen speed has improved.
The service was poor even though we were the first to be served Sunday lunch.
The ‘shoestring’ chips with the burger looked like McCain ovens chunky chips, the fish batter was soft and the ‘tomato salsa’ in the burger was a cherry tomato chopped into 4 pieces.
The staff did apologise for the wait and advised of issues with the kitchen, although no one asked how the food was once we were eating.
Not a great experience
Good food, some classics and a few extras on the menu. Good and friendly service. Recommended
Such a shame it was so busy and not enough staff. We ended up ordering ourselves at the bar and paying at the bar, because after 30 minutes no one had taken our order or popped over to say "hello".
Very disappointed that the gluten-free menu did not include a desert. I was not informed of this until time to order desert. We hadn’t had a starter as we were going to have desert. So I was left to just have a coffee with my daughter had her desert. Really not good enough. They did offer to adjust a normal desert to make it gluten-free however I really do not appreciate having to pay full price when items are removed from the dish. Had we been told when we first ordered I would’ve had a starter and main. I did specify on the booking that we would require gluten-free. Very disappointed however the food I did have was lovely
Nice food and good service, shame the cheesecake was not on the menu
Very disappointing - we previously visited & had nothing but great reviews & the food was fantastic. We advocated the Hollybush to many friends & family.
There is a completely different menu now which does not compare to previous. We were seated right by the kitchen which was noisy in general & lots of raised voices from order errors. Starters was messed up & had to cancel one serving as would not come out until the mains were ready! Gammon was water based & poor. The cod & chips was decent & a tasty dish. The burger was good.
Beers & wines were a good choice, but wont be going back again. Shame!
Excellent food and service. Very friendly and welcoming
Lovely Barnsley Chop, done to a turn. Hollybush burger as excellent as ever. Wash it all down with well kept beer and a gorgeous glass of Malbec. Yum!
Good food and friendly service
Good choice of starters for dinner like tapas. Very good and rhubarb dessert a dream
Nice table by the window, good food, good range of drinks but a little spoiled by the length of time we had to wait for our food! We have been to the Holly Bush many times before and service has never been as slow as it was on this visit.
