The Holy Pundit
I have already recommended this restaurant to many friends.
The menu is varied and so different from usual Indian restaurants. I had monkfish which was absolutely delicious. We chose to have several side orders rather than starters and that worked well for us. We shared the dishes and therefore tried several different tastes.
We will definitely visit again soon.
Even though was just the 2 of us, I never like being seated at a2 chair table as feel squashed in, so when asked if we could sit at 4chair table we was refused as said fully booked. As we left the restaurant tables had been empty throughout the time we was there, so abit disappointing as we had to fill our plates up to make room for extra dishes. But, the food was amazing so we will definitely be back
Always fab food. Have been going to the Pundit for three years and never fails to impress. Food is wonderful.Great wine list as well.
When visiting Kent always have to eat here amazing food!
The best Indian cuisine I have ever tasted - no thick heavy sauces, just beautifully cooked spicy aromatic food. The presentation rivals any top class restaurant and the service is impeccable. Friendly, relaxed atmosphere, I cannot recommend this restaurant too highly.
Food, service, value -- all good. Interesting flavours and textures. Noisy table behind us, but otherwise nice place, nice environment. Will definitely go back.
Read the reviews of this place and was expecting something really special. I have to say I was underwhelmed. The place was very nicely decorated and the immediate service to take you to your table etc was good. We only had poppodoms for starters as I wasn't feeling great and they were ok. We both had the same main course of chicken murgha I think it was, quite mild which is what we wanted. Rice was a bit lumpy, stuck together as if it had been microwaved. The chicken in sauce was ok but nothing special, reasonably tender but reminded me of a ready meal type texture? The best part of the meal was the nan bread, quite thin and not stodgy like most are, really nice. I'd booked this along with a stay at a sea front B&B a few weeks ago as part of my partners 50th birthday celebrations so was really looking forward to her reaction to the 'amazing' reviews that this place has got. It wasn't unpleasant but nowhere near the reviews it has got. Were going to have two tia maria coffees to finish but took so long at the end we decided not to bother.
Hands down one the best curries I've ever had. Would highly recommend and look forward to going back in the future.
Great decor, friendly greeting. Food tasted amazing with a varied menu. Do not expect your usual indian menu this is different. Indian fine dining. Very busy service a little slow at times but this is a minor issue as the food tasted so good. Will return soon.
Fantastic food. Great cocktails and nice setting staff were all very friendly. Would defo go back
Excellent indian resturant. The food was first class as was the service and not expensive as we were led to believe. Highly recommneded.
Fantastic as always, simply could not ask for anything more .
It's our favourite Restaurant
An amazing dining experience from the start to the end. A hidden gem in the basement of the Imperial Hotel.
It has to be one of the best Indians we have ever had, the service was impeccable and the food well it was out of this world. Definitely worth a visit. 5 star ⭐️
Lovely food and great service. We would 100% recommend :-). Great cocktails!
Have been going to the Holy Pundit regularly for over two years and the food has always been fantastic. Never fails to amaze me with the wonderful consistency of the cuisine. Lovely people, great service...what more could you ask for.
Been promising ourselves a visit to the Pundit for months as we live 10 minutes away and last night was literally a last minute thing and it did not disappoint on any level.
We had a couple of very good champagne cocktails in The Imperial champagne bar beforehand which was very nice and a welcome addition to the Hythe scene.
The restaurant is indeed in the bottom of the hotel but if you need to complain about this you really are straw clutching!
The decor as you walk in is vivid but totally different and somewhat quirky, we were asked if we wanted a drink or to be seated and this was done in such away we felt no pressure to do either which I think is nice as it’s not always the case in places.
The service throughout the evening was more than perfect with the timings between courses being totally spot on. All of the staff are tentative and on hand but not in your face and the English lad behind the bar has a wicked sense of humour!!
The complimentary dishes between courses are a lovely touch and we found the wine list not to be exhaustive but we did find an exceptional Rioja which just added to the excellence of the evening.
The food is quite simply the best we’ve ever had and as I said before, we’ve been to a lot of Indians over the years. Every course was absolutely delicious and as others say there’s not a huge choice but that is actually a good thing as it means you try different things.
In summary, we will be returning very soon and both commented that this will now be our go to Indian as it really is that good.
Thanks to the Holy Pundit team for an excellent evening.
Really good food. These chaps should be put in charge of the food in the rest of the hotel
My favourite Indian restaurant, the food is so fresh and flavoursome. It’s different to your regular Indian. The lamb rogan josh melts in the mouth, murgh makhani is so creamy and delicious. The children’s portions are very generous, the chicken goujons tasted freshly made. Very nice ambience and decor. The staff are very friendly.
Superb food and service. Very different to other Indian restaurants. Will certainly go again.
Amazing little place. Fab food. Great staff. Had a great chat with the owner who told us all about the place. Would definitely recommend and go back in the very near future
A must if you want good food ...value for money....something different...….and to feel you have been privately dinned …..
Pleasant interesting food but we did not find it outstanding. Although I might recommend it to a friend I personally would not return.
Amazing food, service a bit slow. Overall a top experience 4/5 stars.
Tasty food served in very generous quantities. The dining room can get noisy with large groups. We especially liked the mini poppadums and chutneys and the loverly naan bread.
Busy restaurant for obvious reasons so book before you come. The menu is extensive for freshly prepared food but well worth the short wait. The service was exceptional and the food was delicious. The price of dishes is not expensive for the quality of food provided. We ordered lamb, chicken and several side dishes and all were scrumptious. The staff were friendly without being intrusive and would 100% recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys Asian/Indian cuisine.
Everything about the Holy Pundit is amazing. I have been there twice now in two weeks and will continue to go back. A true hidden gem. Amazing food, amazing service, quite simply an Amazing restaurant.
A very different take on Indian food with tastes to thrill your palette. The detail to the presentation of the dishes was accompanied by excellent service.. I have already booked the afternoon tea which also promises to be another delicious experience.
Went for our wedding anniversary and had a very pleasant evening. Staff very attentive and food was excellent. Will be going back!
Food was exquisite for British Indian fusion and the atmosphere was really modern and clean. However the service could be more welcoming and staffed more.
Great food and service and an interesting cocktail menu.
Fantastic food, lovely staff, great service! can't wait to go back!
The food was wonderful with excellent choices available. We could not fault the food or service.
The decor was a litte in need of help, particularly the wallpaper that looked as if it was peeling away. The only minor irritation (over which the restaurant can have little control) was a very noisy group who occupied the middle of the room and appeared to assume that everyone would be delighted by their jokes and exaggerated laughter when in truth, they were just inconsiderate and selfish. We were delighted when they left.
Stunning restaurant, food was out of this world and so lovely that the chef/owner is seen in the restaurant bringing food, clearing tables and talking to his customers and asking them how was everything so passionate about his food and how it is cooked and sourced. Cannot wait to visit again and would highly recommend the experience.
Best curry I've had. Food was delicious. Freshly cooked and authentic.
Absolutely superb in every way
I wasn't very hungry so I opted just for the dal starter, naan bread and a bottle of beer. It was excellent ... I look forward to repeating the experience next year.
Went for a birthday meal, had an absolutely first class meal. Definitely up there in my top 5 Indian meals. Superb food, beautifully presented. Much different to you or normal Indian...felt much more authentic. Some additional surprise in between courses added to the experience. Highly recommend giving it a go
Enjoyable evening, great service. Quirky touches and lovely food. Would recommend
Fantastic food (always) . Very welcoming and friendly staff . Service is spot on - I would highly recommend
Best combination of local food produce sith subtle Asian flavours
