The Honours by Martin Wishart
Named in honour of both The Honours of Scotland, the crown jewels of the north and The Honours of the Table, an 18th century guide to etiquette and table manners, it is a fitting choice for a Brasserie that furthers the reputation for high quality and sophisticated food north of the border. The Honours offers Edinburgh’s locals and visitors a sublime setting in which is enjoyed Wisharts' signature blend of great Scottish ingredients and delectable French flavour.
Developed by Martin Wishart himself alongside Executive Chef Rikki Preston, The Honours’ menu is inspired by traditional Brasserie dining yet takes its lead from seasonal availability with fresh ingredients used throughout and meals cooked to order. Dishes are beautifully presented and served by polite, impeccably mannered staff.

Food is good but the place is looking tired and dirty
Fantastic lunch. The restaurant manager sorted us out with a great table where we could park our pram and enjoy the lunch. Food was fantastic and the wine pairings recommended were really well done. Will definitely be back!!
Good food and decent service but not £100 a head good.
Always a pleasure to eat at The Honours. The restaurant strikes a perfect blend of understated style, bonhomie and gastronomic delights. Never fails.
Great restaurant- really felt welcome. Very hospitable.
Great food - good wine
Service impeccable and polite
Eaten here before and would definitely recommend it
Overall I would recommend the restaurant the food is good (you can tell that quality ingredients are used) and the surroundings are lovely. Our experience certainly wasn't without fault however. We arrived to be sat at a table in one of the most out of the way spots in the restaurant. We were moved when we asked to be thankfully. This meant a different waiter however who was relatively unfriendly and inattentive and made a quite a few errors with our order (extra sides ordered and incorrect drinks being brought to the table). The food was nice but the vinegar/shallot accompaniment with my oysters just wasn't quite right and my scallop main, althought very tasty, was also really quite small.
Wonderful evening. Great staff who were very helpful and genuinely came across as wanting to ensure we had a good evening. Will definitely be back
Really enjoyed the experience. Our first visit and we will be back.
Excellent as ever , booked for 4 , no probs accommodating the five of us that turned up on busy international weekend - see you next time !
Fabulous food fabulous wine fabulous place. Very enjoyable as always
The food was well cooked but very disappointingly bland.
I can't remember when I had a filled steak so lacking in flavour.
Partner's salmon starter was delicious and the highlight of his meal.
The most flavourful thing I are was a roasted carrot with my steak.
Staff were very attentive until dessert.
I've never spent so much to keep so underwhelmed.
Wonderful take on traditional food; light, good portions, delicious. Pretty setting in residential neighborhood close to Prince St. The best food we had in Edinburgh.
One of my favourite restaurants - I always recommend to my friends - Lovely food - a wee treat ❤️
Everything was excellent. Food delicious, beautiful restaurant & friendly staff.
Booked at the last minute as we were let down by another restaurant. To be honest we were so glad we had been. The atmosphere is smart yet not intimidating, there were many there having business lunches in suits yet we were made welcome in our jumpers and scarves. Staff were polite, professional, attentive and seemed happy to see us. Food is some of the best we have tasted, served classically without pretentious elements seen too often now. A fantastic establishment!
Amazing food, service and ambiance. We will be back!
Rib-eye Steak was “fine” but not by any means special. Lamb rump was better but still not outstanding. Expected more unfortunately.
Thoroughly enjoyed my first visit to Honours! I don’t think I can find fault. I went for lunch and decided to go a la carte. The smoked salmon was a picture on a plate and tasted lovely. I followed that with ox cheeks which were to die for....so tender! My waiter seemed very young but he was friendly and knowledgeable....I even left my wine choices to him!
Excellent. A cut above.
Great food and service. A bit warm in the dining area but best lamb ever.
Outrageously expensive for what it is. No better than most decent restaurants in Edinburgh, and certainly nowhere near as good as the Michelin starred alternatives, yet far more expensive at least for lunch.
This a beautiful restraint in the heart of the city and the food matches it perfectly. I had the ribeye was it was very tender as was my wife’s filet and the glaze just adds that extra touch and flavour. Can’t fault it and would recommend you try it soon
Everyone on staff rushed around constantly to the point of distraction. The staff walk ‘loud’ on the hardwood floors. Hostess was not engaging. Asked to wait 20 minutes in the bar for a reservation time at 9 pm. Filet ordered Medium Rare - was Medium. Waitress never checked immediately after serving to make sure temp ok- half way through she asked if everything was ok. We left at 10:30, waitress and others had left before we left... guess we didn’t need anything else. Very transactional, verses experiential.
Fabulous food & wine with great service.
The food was great as always, but on this occasion, my husband and I were celebrating my birthday, which we had just arrived into Edinburgh and the restaurant from Aberdeen that lunchtime, and were so focused on our own conversation when the waiter came to our table to ask what we were celebrating, which took us by surprise, as I forgot I must have highlighted it, none-the-less, "Yes, my birthday" was said....he then went over to where the head of the restaurant and other waiting staff, where, we clearly heard him say no its not her birthday?......when individuals master the art of behaving indifferently, then they should have the courtesy of doing so discreetly.
Our first time here and we really enjoyed everything. We all had different meals - the oysters were wonderful, the rabbit was excellent, I loved the asparagus and the cheese souffle was outstanding. Our friend loved the guinea fowl and also the stone bass.
The space was nice, but a little loud.
Staff were attentive, we had a good white Burgundy at a reasonable price.
We will return.
All good until the hairy dessert
Spring finally sprung in Edinburgh the night we dined at The Honours and the restaurant made a special cocktail to celebrate. I didn't try it, but my friend did, and she enjoyed it. We were off to a good start.
We had an early reso, and even tho I knew they would need to turn the table for another seating, we never felt rushed. We shared a starter of smoked salmon and they divided it up and served it on separate plates. It was yummy.
We both had fish dishes and they were excellent. We did wine by the glass and they had a great selection to choose from.
Absolutely put this on your list to visit. Food, service, ambiance...all good!
The Honours is slipping. We have frequently enjoyed very well cooked meals, well presented and slickly served by staff in a very busy environment.
They have always given the impression of remembering us because they kept details of all their bookings and could even tell me my phone number to confirm.
Not this time. I was asked three times if it was our first visit.
A waiter asked how our meal was but was turning away before I had a chance to tell him. The head waiter's English was incomprehensible and the Honours Sundae which we have always enjoyed was noticeably smaller than previously.
The restaurant was half empty so they did not have the excuse of workload.
What had always been a very enjoyable meal was decidedly average although the food quality had been maintained.
Bring back competent management and good client interface.
I loved the ambience of this place - quite unexpected as the outside of the restaurant was minalimist. My husband and I had the Express Lunch which was amazing value for money. 3 choices for each course and the portions were perfect for a lunch. We particularly loved the skate wings with capers. The wine list was impressive. The restaurant was quiet the day we visited but that did not detract from the overall experience. The decor was stylish and the background music was laid back and unobtrusive. We would definitely return to this restaurant.
Great restaurant! Laid back and lovely atmosphere. Would recommend
Fantastic food and attentive service throughout - we were already big Martin Wishart fans and this experience reinforced it!
Wow! This restaurant was everything and more. Wonderful food and wonderful service! The sea bass and ocean cheeks are lovely. Definitely would recommend!
This was my first visit to the Honours. I'd been meaning to try it for some time, and a special birthday was just the occasion. The service was good, and the food excellent. However, apart from one other table, we were the only other lunch diners, which meant that the restaurant lacked a bit of atmosphere. Given it was mid January I expect the lack of customers was due to the time of year. I will most definitely return on another occasion when hopefully the restaurant will be slightly busier.
disappointing. First course excellent but they brought out our second course only a few mins after we'd finished our first and so the whole lunch was finished in 20 mins. Didn't like the service area being in our full view either.
Excellent service from the warm welcome we received when we entered, through to the cocktail area (all bar staff exceptionally friendly) and into the dining room. Top marks to Maitre d' and team...I haven't even started on the food. Suffice to say, do go. Sublime. Loved it.
Una cena con la familia
E cellent cooking - on a part with Phil howard at Ely stan street which is my favourite. We are at restaurant Martin wishart tonight and are excited to see it go up another level!
Only criticism would be it was not the most friendly of welcomes. All else was excellent.
Enjoyed much better in the past. Service a bit cold and put in far out place after requesting a move from a dark table. Food decent but overpriced. We know the butcher they source from! His prices are very reasonable!
