The Hook & Line
Inside the Hook & Line, you'll discover a quirky, rustic interior and cosy booths. In homage to Plymouth's naval roots, we've created the city's first speciality Rum Bar. Steve's area of expertise, the bar, is the heart of The Hook & Line - with a carefully selected wine list, Perrier Jouët champagne, cocktails that are on point and our very own, signature ale, the Hook, Line & Sinker.

Service was quick, food was excellent, however, a beer spilt over a colleague was a dampener on the overall rating and ambiance of the night
Great location and fantastic food. Quick and efficient service.
Delicious food , lovely beer , what a selection of rums, great service , gorgeous place sitting outside watching the river
Love this restaurant. Would like more grilled fish choices if possible as don't like breadcrumbs/batter. Less chips too and more veg options.
The chowder is wonderful and all our mains delicious. Service is really friendly and fun. Ambience great and cocktails are brilliant!!!
In a weird situation where so many staff are off due to isolating the restaurant did really well. Sad to see them having to turn people away as although they had room they didn’t have staff. The food was great, the service was great and we had a really nice evening
Arrived in plenty of time , waited at entry for 10mins with staff ignoring us ! Eventually showed to table with no menus! No drink order ! Eventually got up & left !! Very disappointed as graduation meal , really short staffed with no management in sight to complain! We won’t be eating here any time soon ..
We had an amazing time at Hook and Line. The food is lovely and fresh (must try mackarel pate, octopus and squid - as starter). Fish tacos that my friend had were lovely and I had a fish plate (just perfection). Do book a place as it is great for local fish and the staff is amazing to do such a hard work durring the dinner service.
Good food and great setting outside but had to wait for a long time before getting our drinks then our mains then our dessert
Loved it here! Can’t wait to come back already 😊 lovely food and service
You enter the restaurant passing the open kitchen, so you get the smell of the fresh foods being cooked, and that's a great start. The service was on point throughout the meal, and quality of the meal could not be faulted. All in all a great experience
Clearly a popular place but the evening we went, the cook couldn't cope with the volume of orders (take out and eat in) which meant a one hour wait for our meal. When it arrived - fish and chips - I can only say it was mediocre and a disappointment. In fairness they dropped the charge for one of our portions (neither asked for or expected) to compensate for the wait but regret we won't return which makes it difficult to recommend.
We booked an outside table for our evening. Beautiful location looking out to sea. The food was exceptional tonight. The service was slow but that was because several staff were off due to being pinged by nhs ap. we didn’t mind as we had a relaxing evening and could savour the food and wine.
Lovely place good food great service will be returning regularly
I booked a table on line easy to use on arrival found it very easily we were sitting outside on a beautiful sunny day great place to sit when it's warm and dry outside
Very good service a couple of staff around checking in and giving out menus
Food good came quite quickly after they'd brought are drinks and were well served
Through our stay
Five star service. Warm, welcome and professional. Food was amazing, fresh and tasty. Good quality ingredients and very reasonably priced. Cocktails fantastic. The fish burger with scallops, prawns and fresh fish - 10 star! The sweet potato fries - best we have ever eaten. The tartar sauce light and creamy and the crushed peas yummy! Third visit. We will be back.
Absolutely amazing. Food and staff . Cannot fault them.
Well done all
Nothing like we expected for the high priced food. Disappointed
We love the relaxed feel of this place . I definitely would return to try more dishes. The Chowder was amazing and the bread lovely. The fish and chips was more like whale and chips. Service was well-timed and friendly.
Waited for 30 minutes between courses and when the food arrived it was warm but not hot. All the staff wanted to do was to push the drinks side of things. It was a special occasion we were celebrating and the evening was spoilt - certainly will not be returning
Recommended by a work colleague.. didn’t disappoint, enjoyed a fabulous lunch. Fish tacos were amazing!
Thoroughly enjoyed our dinner here last night. It was my son’s birthday and they wished him a happy birthday and gave him a delicious chocolate brownie dessert. Everything was so fresh and my son and husband enjoyed trying a few different rums and the staff were only too pleased to help. Loved it
Welcoming & friendly, quality food well presented- an excellent fish restaurant in Plymouth at last. Would fully recommend.
Excellent food and value for money
Great food, excellent service, good portion sizes, catch of the day brilliant definitely visit again
Great rum cocktails and lovely seafood. Would highly recommend.
Very nice good, good quality service and great venue.
Delicious food. Staff attentive, but not intrusive. It's not in the main square of restaurants which may be why it wasn't as busy as it deserved to be.
Such a great evening, staff and food are fantastic. Highlight is the cocktails and rum list! Would definitely recommend.
Everything was fantastic!!! Very knowledgeable and welcoming staff! Excellent dinner!
Excellent food and service. This is the second time we have visited and will definitely be back.
Enjoyed the food, tables a bit small and quite close together. Nice selection of courses and drinks.
The food was excellent along with the customer service
We loved our visit, fantastic food and great service!
We were delighted when the chef came out to our table to offer us the specials for the day. These would normally have been planned for the evening sitting but we were there at lunch. Our waiter made a special request for us. We chose an amazing fresh plaice meal. I think we visited 3 times in just over a week, so we must have liked it!
Very friendly atmosphere, excellent service and a quality meal.
Absolutely stunning food, service and location. Exceptionally well priced and quality of food.
Will definitely recommend to everyone to go and try this place
Fabulous food, friendly staff in a wonderful location. 😋
We had a nice enough time, food was ok but nothing special, slightly overpriced. Not a bad experience but probably wouldn’t go again. Staff friendly and liked the design of the restaurant.
Excellent food and very reasonably priced. FOH staff are friendly but efficient. Altogether a pleasant experience on a very wet Sunday afternoon.
Had a lovely meal at the hook and line. Food was great but what made it really stand out was the service and atmosphere. Good cocktails too!!
I personally had the chowder which was obviously homemade and tasted wonderful, the fish and chips were huge and tasty, and also the fish tacos.
