The Hoops Inn & Country Hotel
Set on the Atlantic Highway (A39), The Hoops is easy to find and the perfect base for both relaxation and recreation. The picturesque village of Clovelly is a short drive or a delightful coastal walk from the inn, while Dartmoor and Exmoor National Parks are within easy reach.
We use fresh, local seasonal ingredients in our dishes and guests can choose to dine in the candlelit restaurant, in the relaxed bars or in the covered courtyard.
The Hoops Inn has 13 individual rooms ranging from our comfortable standard rooms in the Coach House to suites in the main building.
A 10oz, pan fried sirloin steak served with thick cut chips, peppered tomato, peashoots and garlic buttered mushrooms
Steamed West Country Mussels* **
With cream, ginger, honey, spring onion and artisan bread
Beer Battered Fish and Chips*
A large 10-12oz fillet of cod, thick cut chips, mushy peas and homemade tartar sauce
A good quality Sunday lunch, good drinks and a friendly atmosphere, great waiting staff. A beautiful old coaching inn, a superb garden to sit in in the summer
Most enjoyable experience. Our second visit and certainly won't be our last.
My wife and I booked a table here as we were staying in nearby Bude. The pub has a wonderful old charm, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The food was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. There was a great selection of local beers including several of my favourites. We would highly recommend lunch or dinner here and will definitely be returning!
Only Sunday roast menu available Wanted to order off main menu as this was our Ruby Wedding Anniversary, was told not available.
Sirloin Roast meat was tough. Top side roast was rare. Pudding was very nice
Fantastic food beautifully presented, waitress very knowledgeable.
We had a really lovely meal at the Hoops Inn. Excellent food and service and we will be back!
Well looked after, Karen does a great job, very good place to eat
Very relaxed and comfortable.
We had another very enjoyable stay at "The Hoops", including some great meals. We are a family of four, including two fussy teenagers and one vegetarian - and everyone was happy. The accommodation was very comfortable and the stuff were very friendly and helpful - we were made to feel welcome in every way.
We booked a table for 2pm. We arrived a few minutes early and were show to a table in a side room which had one other table which had a group of 6 sitting at it , the were very loud ! We promptly had our order taken but over an hour later we still had no food . We had 2 young children with us that were very hungry at this point! When the 4 roast dinners where bought to the table they were swimming in gravy and had no visible veg except for a small portion of cauliflower cheese. 3 plates did find a few strands of shredded cabbage under the meat but none on the 4th. We were very disappointed as we have eaten here many times before. We did speak to the lady who took the money but she wasn’t concerned and just said it was busy.
Would recommend the restaurant if reasonably average food and more formal atmosphere are what's wanted. However the experience in the bar area would be enhanced if a wider variety of menu choices were offered. More "bar meals" offerings, smaller snack type meals rather than attempting fine dining.
This was our second time at Hoops, and it won’t be our last. The food was outstanding. They had just changed the menu and we were lucky enough to benefit from it! The duck dish with a variety of beetroot was inspired. We stayed the night and I have to say the breakfast was awesome. Plus England beat Australia in the rugby so it couldn’t have been much better!
Lots of cosy little booths, halibut and mushroom fricasee was amazing, service very friendly. Would definitely come back if we were in the area again
Lovely food as always thank you . It was fairly busy and a very wet night so it was warm comforting and quiet enough for my group to chat .
The sirloin of beef Sunday roast was absolutely amazing. Hoops Inn is a fantastic spot for a relaxed meal and great customer service
Lovely meal and service thank you. We especially liked the quiet little alcove that you put us in.
The food in this pub is excellent and the range on the menu is extensive and to suit all options - even our 6 year old loved his child's steak - great to see a grown up meal on the kids menu which he just loved and then demolished a chocolate brownie with the most delicious white chocolate sauce - it was the most we had seen him eat for a long while! Us four adults ordered pate starters and various main courses - the Duck breast served with a tower of dauphinoise potatoes was absolutely gorgeous, the sausages were scrummy and fish and chips were beautifully cooked with lovely crispy chips ... and then the desserts were fantastic - we shared these and regretted this as they were so good but by this stage we were pretty full! Can not fault this place at all, it is our second time there and we will return for sure!
Food is just ok dining areas need some work, dated, dark with very tired seating that despite cushions simply need to be replaced.
Lovely setting pretty little pub. Outstanding local fresh food
Had a lovely meal here with husband and three kids, service was excellent and both the adult and kids meals were delicious. Kids were particularly impressed that there were mussels as a starter on their menu and they were a huge hit in a beautiful creamy sauce and big portions too. The cheesecake was one of the nicest I've tasted in a, long time and my husband loved the sticky toffee pudding. Definitely visit again next time we are in the area.
Mediocre food, expensive for the quality. Waiting staff were pleasant
Very pleasant reception to the dining room. I would recommend my friends to eat at Hoops,
a family place that is well run and welcoming.
We were disappointed. It was not what it used to be. We would describe it as a restaurant which serves beer and we would prefer a pub which serves food. Specifically my husband's burger with brisket was very dry and my cod was tasteless. And why oh why do restaurants think it is a good idea to serve the fish on top of the chips? It makes the chips soggy and by the way the chips were the best bit. My goats cheese (salad starter) was not warm as stated on the menu. The waiting staff asked how things had been when they cleared away but when we told them they just said they would let the kitchen know! But hey! What about us? The customer? Are the kitchen going to take note? I doubt it. And here you are again asking me to give feedback - what for ? Will anybody take note? It certainly doesn't help me cos I'm afraid we won't be going back.
Fabulous food, very tasty. Gorgeous deserts. Lots of choice
A reasonable selection of food. Well-prepared and presented. No complaints here.
The ambiance and atmosphere was pleasant.
The service was slow and careless. Staff were clearly over-extended although the restaurant did not appear overly busy.
No order was taken for dessert. Coffee failed to appear.
Had a lovely meal with friends at The Hoops Inn on Saturday night. I think everyone would agree that you cannot pass the Pub without thinking how quintessentially English it looks and that you must pay a visit. The food was really good, the service was really good but we just didn't feel very welcomed.
There’s not much wrong with the Hoops, but we can’t say we were “wowed” by our experience, and would probably give it it a 3.5 if we could. We were shown into an empty restaurant section for our booking which stayed that way all evening (surprising for a Friday evening). The decor was a little tired, and lacked imagination. The combination of these factors meant we scored the ambience factor fairly low. The service was fine, particularly as we were the only guests in the restaurant so could easily have been forgotten. Food was generally good. The chicken Bon-Bon starter was over cooked, leaving the chicken very dry. However, our mains were excellent ( burger topped with shreaded beef, and the lamb), while our desserts were good. We felt the pricing was very reasonable and felt the meal was good value for money. On another day, we’d probably rate this place higher, so you should give it a try.
Another great stay at The Hoops Inn. Cold beer in the lovely gardens and totally enchanted by the Inn itself. Staff were so helpful and welcoming. Already looking forward to visiting again.
We were recommended Hoops Inn and we were not disappointed, the food was excellent and more than enough to eat, the service was also excellent we really couldn't find fault with anything.
We took some friends who were stopping near by and they like us will certainly return.
Great olde public house. Great food. Attentive staff.
Went here a few days ago for me and my partners anniversary. Lovely food and real pleasant staff. A lovely atmosphere and just all round lovely experience :) hopefully come back here again when next in Devon
We were on holiday a few years ago and ate here . Not sure what to expect we returned last week , it was as good if not better than our last visit but naturally as everything it’s gone up but excellent food , taste and we were well looked after .
We came to the hoops 3 years ago and had a fantastic sunday lunch so decided to revist again they did not dissapoint the sirloin beef for sunday lunch was outstanding, we would love dine more often at your restaurant only problem you are 5hours away. Will definite revisit again everything was spot on service, food and ambience.
We LOVE The Hoops. So very dog friendly, the food is excellent and there is a great choice of local drinks to suit everyone. Highly recommended and booking essential!
Was alright, food wasn’t particularly tasty. Felt like they had tried to be too ‘fancy’. Kids burgers were dry. Sauce on the chicken I had was vinegary. Overpriced for the standard.
Thank you for such a lovely meal [ my birthday ] Very much looking forward to returning and will recommend to our customers on our campsite. Very good veggie options too.
the good was out of this world, such a great choice.. the chef should get 100
great amazing good and service
Really enjoyed our valentines meal here. The food was delicious and the service was good. One small improvement would be to have dessert wine!
A very good meal in very pleasant surroundings . I would recommend.
Perfectly cooked food, had a little mini room all to ourselves, warm and comfortable. Good value. Can’t complain at all
