The Horse and Groom Wilmington
Good overall service, staff friendly and value for money
We booked the Horse & Groom for a friends birthday, but quite honestly i wished i had gone elsewhere. It was like a staff canteen rather than a restaurant, the noise there you could hardly hear yourself. The menu wasn't what I expected, nothing special the usual burgers, steak & chips. Plus why is it that all vegetables now seem to be barely cooked, just because it's fashionable, I hate it! The price was quite reasonable but I don't think we will be returning. Very poor, I have been to much better pub restaurants with a better menu.
What a pity this pub/restaurant has changed hands, they appear to have firgotten what makes for an enjoyable dining experience - good food and efficient service.
The good was OK but lacking flair and flavour and, in this case the ability to cook risotto. The service was terrible. 30 minute before getting our starters (and that needed promoting) and another 45 for the mains (again prompted). Good job it wasn’t busy, they expect the table back within a 2 hour window.
Would we return, definitely not, far too many places that do value their customers.
What a pity, this was a good place to visit.
Booked a table for 2 didn't get seating till 2:20 couldn't have the stars I'm just because it was getting too late and we had to leave disappointed as it was my sister in laws birthday and I was going to do something with a candle but I didn't get to do it but never mind overall the service was good bit slow you had to keep calling them if you needed anything dinner was absolutely lovely can't thought that I think some of it is a bit over priced specially for a roast dinner but I do recommend a food
Fantastic evening great choice of food, staff very friendly great place
Good food, polite staff and dog friendly. Nice pub for meeting friends or family.
Food was lovely. But service was very slow. Had to keep chasing drinks and food . Had a lovely evening though
Nice busy pub / restaurant. Would definitely recommend
Not as good as it used to be. Food is good and the service is excellent. The menu is not that inspiring.
Lovely service. The roast was delicious. The putts and dips starter was a bit pricey for what it was. Lovely pub, can be loud and hot at times!
Really lovely meal. Service was slow - but didn’t necessarily bother us as we were enjoying each other’s company and catching up.
Our first time here celebrating a milestone birthday. The food and service was good, but we were a bit squashed on our table and it was unbearably hot where we were seated in front of the kitchen. So much so that it was too uncomfortable to fully enjoy your food.
Would return but would request table away from the kitchen. Staff we friendly and polite and brought out birthday cake and sang happy birthday making celebration feel special
Had an amazing lunch here on Sunday. The food was absolutely amazing and the service was even better. Was a tad noisy but expected as it was bank holiday Sunday but once seated in the restaurant area it was a lot better. Will definitely be returning. Would rate higher if I could!!
Had an excellent meal, and was good value for money. Would have no hesitation in recommending other to visit. Staff friendly which makes your visit to the restaurant/pub even more enjoyable. Only issue was when restaurant is full, can be noisy and difficult to hold a conversation.
10 colleagues had a lively and lovely meal. Lovely staff, varied menu and good beer.
Food and service excellent. Lovely restaurant and lovely garden in nice weather Been a few times and my only comment would be that when very busy can be quite noisy but I'm sure this is just acoustics.
Restaurant was a nice family place, staff were welcoming & food ordered was serviced efficiently & was lovely too.
The only downside to the restaurant is the parking, the car park is small for the number of customers they receive within a night, so we had to park in a road adjacent to the restaurant & walk round.
The management were so helpful and made us feel most welcome. The Horse & Groom is a lovely venue especially in good weather.
The service was spot on - Thank you
Had a lovely evening staff excellent food excellent and a lovely ambiance
Once again, we had a superb diner at the Horse and Groom. The service was very attentive.
The roast dinner is the best in the area .... very tasty, flavoursome and importantly crispy roast potatoes. Excellent.
Been before & been better. Was a busy sunny day but service was slow - would have ordered pudding but no one came back. 20 mins to get our drinks. Pulled pork wasnt good either. We like it here but on this visit was poor. sorry!
Celebrated my mothers 87th birthday here on Sunday 14 April 2019. Had a really lovely meal served by various very friendly, efficient staff, the food was really good and had no complaints. The only two down-sides were 1. the lack of parking, the car park is way too small in relation to the amount of tables in the restaurant and I had to park about a five minute walk away which is not the end of the world, however my mother has trouble walking and although my sister managed to get the last disabled parking bay it is something that other people may want to be aware of. Also the amount of large family gatherings meant the noise levels were really high at times, it felt a bit like a canteen with the very high background noise. All in all a really good meal, good value with excellent staff. Thank you. Christine
Always enjoy eating here. The food was very good, all three courses. Service was friendly, we waited a while for our starters to be cleared but it was busy so not too much of a problem. The only thing to mention is that it’s quite noisy there. Fortunately we were in a corner so not as loud as when you’re in the middle of the room. Would go again though.
Lovely meal, but very noisy that evening, with a huge table & lots of kids! Would definitely recommend, as have been before & it’s a great pub!
We went for lunch on Wednesday last. The food was a huge disappointment. The starters were just about acceptable, although the pate had a skin where it had been sitting about for too long. 3 of the main courses were miserable. The Vegan salad bowl was a mishmash of ingredients with no cohesion. The vegetarian curry had overcooked soggy vegetables. Limp broccoli is very unpleasant. The accoustics are awful with nothing to soften the noise. All in all best to stay at home.
Great service !
Great food !
We had a really enjoyable evening .
Would highly recommend the horse and groom in Wilmington.
My meal was sent back because the veg was so undercooked it was almost raw. The staff service was excellent and I was offered a different meal which I accepted, but even then the veg was so undercooked it was impossible to eat.
Really wouldn’t order a dish with veg there again.
Great food - Sunday roast. great service as always.
Even though the pub it’s self and staff were very friendly and service was good , 3 hours after eating there I was very ill ,
May just have been me but obviously wouldn’t go back
Food & service was very good..no complaints there. It was very very noisy though..because the bar was very busy & it is all open plan the constant noise from the bar travels to the restaurant areas. It made it impossible to have a conversation with our meal and unfortunately my mother whose birthday it was left with a headache. Will probably go again but not for a family meal.
Fantastic service and excellent food made a great evening
The crab on toast starter was excellent and particularly good value
Fantastic food and good choice of wines, staff were very helpful and polite, I can not recommend enough
Fabulous roast dinner. Great service and friendly staff as always.
Our third visit since Christmas and our most recent visit didn't quite hit the spot. It was very busy the night we went so it was very loud, meaning we had to talk quite loudly too. The food was lovely although a little overpriced I think, for the amount you get, however, the setting makes up for that. Let down by the time we had to wait for our desserts - ice cream - had to wait nearly half an hour; I think they forgot us. Overall, not as good as previous visits but will more than likely return.
Our first visit. Very pleased with everything in particular the staff
We love eating here. The food is always spot on and the service is always so welcoming and lovely. Would highly recommend
Staff should be prepared to offer customers an acceptable form of recompense when food is of an unacceptable standard ... not argue with customers!
Really disappointed at this treatment.
A waitress, to whine we explained why we would not be leaving any gratuity on this occasion, also agreed this was unacceptable
The food was lovely and so were staff, very attentive and friendly!
Mother’s Day Lunch with family. Our meals were excellent, all courses very good. My pate starter was delicious. We felt a bit warm in the restaurant but the staff were happy to open a door for us. Would recommend highly.
Food lovely as always. Service was extremely slow. Table was booked for 2pm and whole lunch was finished by 5. Had to go and ask about our starters as was waiting over 45 minutes and we had only asked for garlic bread and olives. With 2 hungry children wasn't acceptable. It was very busy but we shouldn't have to suffer for that. Overall was lovely though with our waiter making nice for us.
