The Horse and Groom Wilmington
Friday: 12pm - 3pm; 6pm - 10pm
Saturday - Sunday: 12pm - 10pm
The Horse and Groom is a favourite of mine. We always get good food at reasonable prices. The welcome is warm and service is very good.- friendly and no long waits.
The daily changing menu has both advantages and disadvantages. The dishes are changed to reflect daily availability of ingredients but it also means that your personal favourites may not be available on the day of visit ( e.g. fish and chips.) you also run the risk of the menu having dishes you do not fancy so much.
All in all, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages and I for one will continue to come and bring my friends.
Sensational Sunday lunch. Service top class and staff very helpful and friendly.
Had an excellent meal with great service and lovely helpful staff.
Eat here all the time and always very happy with staff , service and food. Came in Sunday and had gammon , egg and chips which was the first disappointing meal I’ve eaten here ... one slice of gammon just is not enough and we left hungry ... other than that always love it here
The food is outstanding - delicious and extremely well presented
This is the third time I have been here in recent months. I really like the venue and the food that it offers.
With this in mind I chose it for a first date and my date was suitably impressed.
The food was good as always.
My only gripe which is a small one is that being on a date we were busy talking whilst trying to eat. We naturally paused eating to talk, we were asked 3 times whether we had finished. This got a little annoying but other than this it was good as always.
Have eaten here many times and have yet to be disappointed. Very good food, great atmosphere. Did take quite a while to get our main course but our drinks were brought over quickly so we were quite happy. When the meals arrived we all enjoyed them.
My favourite resturant, lovely garden area and the best roast dinners around! Always a great fresh local menu and a friendly welcome. Would recommend to anyone!
Good atmosphere, food and helpful staff. I had the Sunday roast and it was lovely.
Excellent place for Sunday lunch, food amazing, staff extremely helpful. Great place to enjoy dinner with friends and family.
Had the Lamb Roast was amazing with a mixture of lovely fresh vegetables .
Would definitely recommend .
After reading reviews on trip adviser our meal was a little disappointing. The waiting taking the order suddenly decided to go and talk to someone else just as we were to give the order but he did apologise later. Two of us ordered scallops but the batter they were cooked in was so heavily season it overpowered their delicate taste. For my mains I order Pork Belly, which arrived sitting in a pool of flavourless water. For desert we had the Eaton Mess. We feel that it had been made for some time as the meringue had dissolved.
Waited a very long time and when it arrived 3/4 meals tasted very overcooked - the Beef roast was particularly poor
We have passed the Horse & Groom many times and always noticed how crowded the car park was, so since it is in walking distance we thought we'd give it a try for a Saturday evening meal. Overall great menu, great service, great facilities.
The only negative was the quality of the wine served by the glass . The white and rose wines by the glass were not chilled (you shouldn't need to put ice in a glass of wine) and the red by the glass clearly was from a bottle that had been opened a while and not been checked as to whether it needed to be disgarded. However saying that the wines were all suprisingly cheaply priced.
Lovely meal and a great atmosphere... would definitely come back
3rd visit in a month and each visit has been really nice, food great, staff really friendly, will definitely be going back on a regular basis
This was the second occasion that we've visited The Horse & Groom at Wilmington and will certainly do so again. The food and atmosphere are excellent and the staff whilst enjoying sharp, casual attire are lively and friendly and it is easy to gain their attention when needed and you get the impression they are enjoying their work. The manager Paul was ever present and is actively involved in all aspects of the dining experience. My only slight problem is the noise factor which is caused by sound bouncing off a hard floor to a solid ceiling which would be very difficult to eliminate. In all an excellent dining experience in a sharp modern atmosphere.
Great staff, food, service, we spend too much time here
Very nice meal waited a while to be served. Lovely garden. We sat inside and I was quite warm, would of liked a bit more fresh air.
what a brilliant night we had food drink staff ambience fantastic cant wait to come back
Had a good time with friends to celebrate my birthday.
Very high standard for a pub. The best combination of a bar area with a real fire and a quality restaurant. Good ales and lagers accompany a contemporary menu that varies quite frequently. Service is attentive - don’t be afraid to ask them to tailor anything.
Really friendly and professional waiting staff and great food, well presented and very tasty! Highly recommend this lovely pub which has a really nice garden with outdoor seating.
Fabulous, great food coupled with fab service. A gem!
Fantastic Sunday roast! Also had the mussels for starters! They even sang happy birthday to me :) table of 8 everyone delighted.
Fab food and a lovely evening celebrating our anniversary.
Lovely meal, service good, just a bit noisy - just with general conversation. Could do with something better to absorb sound.
A reat evening with friends food was excellent staff service very good.
Excellent menu choice, including vegetarian and vegan options.
Portion sizes were very large and reasonably priced.
Staff were attentive and very friendly and welcoming.
Booked on the spur of the moment and this was our first visit. The outside of the pub looks very inviting and looks very clean and fresh. We were seated very quickly and drinks order was taken. We also had the choice to be seated out in the garden in the sun.We were given a reasonable time to peruse the menu and I personally had a bit of trouble deciding what to have as there were so many options that I wanted to choose! We had a bit of a wait for our food but I was happy with this as I knew all our food was being prepared fresh. All the food we had,3 courses, were well presented, hot and extremely tasty and the total bill was just over £60 including gratuity. I wouldn’t hesitate going again but would avoid on a Friday/Saturday and Sunday as I imagine that it would be very busy as the food is so good.
First visit to this pub as really enjoyed the experience! Thank you.
Visited plenty of times and always good service and food, staff very attentive and cannot do enough to assist you, food is first class, all they need is some air conditioning and it will be fantastic as sometimes gets very hot inside whilst eating , recommended to all our friends
Went with a friend as it’s local. Service was good, food lovely but not 5 stars as my Scallop starter, even though delicious, was small. I think Queen Scallops would have been better or more of the smaller ones it came with.
The menu had some unusual dishes and I particularly enjoyed the Katsu Chicken Curry Burger. The food was delicious and well presented. However I can't give 5 stars as we thought the menu was a bit pricey. The diner who ordered the pork belly said it should have had more to it, maybe potatoes as she was still hungry after. No complaints for the other 4 dishes though. The staff were friendly and efficient. We will definitely be back.
The food was lovely and the staff where very attentive.
We had a table for 3 at 7 pm on a Friday night. I felt that we was somehow rushed to order our food. A waitress seemed to linger near our table waiting for us to make up our minds. A service charge of 10% was added to our bill!? There was only 3 of us! The place has a nice feel to it but it can get very noisy so conversation can be difficult at times. The food was nice but not outstanding. We shared a starter,we each had a main, no desserts and we each had a coffee. We drank one bottle of water and one bottle of proseco.... our bill came to £101...! That included a 10% local resident discount.. I think it was expensive for what we had.
This restaurant was recommened to my husband and I so we tried it out on Sunday. It was absolutely amazing - the best meal out we have had in ages! Delicious food and really friendly staff too! Thank you!!
I have been to this restaurant once before but this trip was disappointing.
There was a limited vegetarian choice on the menu which was fairly limited throughout, but the food we did order was nice but expensive - £15 for a slice of pie and mash for example.
The venue was extremely noisy - it was a Saturday night which is understandable, but we didn't want to stay any longer than just eating our meal.
The main issue however was that we had to question the amount on our bill 3 times. The first bill had a bottle of prosecco on it which we hadn't ordered, we sent that back and then had a bill with mussels on - which we hadn't ordered.
The 3rd bill was eventually correct. This has happened to a friend of mine at the same venue on a different occasion, with the addition of a bottle of prosecco on their bill, which they hadn't ordered.
I don't think I would want to go to this venue again.
Had a really excellent meal, our only criticism would be the level of noise. It was hard to hear the other members in our group.
Was Amazing yet again, only been once again and didn't disappoint! Food was on point! So flavoursom and great for a date. Lovely atmosphere all around and lovely staff.
