The Horse and Jockey Wessington
With an underground restaurant and cosy bar areas to enjoy our aim is to offer something for everyone.
Went to the Horse & Jockey as my dad moved to Wessington and raves about the Sunday roasts, first time visiting and won’t be the last. The pub/restaurant is so modern and welcoming, staff were attentive and polite all the way through the visit. 3 of us ordered the butchers block, amazing! Huggggee portion, would definitely recommend the place to anybody, can’t wait to go again to give the rest of the menu a try.
Never visited before it was recommended by a friend who had been for Sunday lunch and said it was beautiful and great value for money. Visited on June 18th with two friends. Food arrived beautifully presented and hot. The staff are second to none. Three meals and several large glasses of wine, when the bill arrived we were pleasantly surprised. My first visit but not my last
We visited for a Sunday lunch on Father’s Day and it Definitely didn’t disappoint. The staff were very helpful and friendly. We will definitely be back.
It was nice, nothing special. Food was a little delayed and yet one meal arrived and was cold.
First time I have eaten here. The food was excellent. Service very efficient, and it was nice not to rushed. The staff were very accommodating when we asked to be moved to another table, as a member of our party has a hearing defect. Will definitely be returning.
Always excellent food and service. Proposed to my girlfriend and as I made the staff aware, they seated us in a nice quiet spot. When she said yes the gave us complimentary drinks and a dessert board saying "congrats" in toffee sauce. Very nice touch which made it all even more special. Thank you so much. Our favourite restaurant
Good atmosphere, friendly staff, enjoyed the range of starters. Just a bit chilly under the aircon.
enjoyed the food very much, had eaten the starters before the drinks arrived! It was busy but that was no excuse
Lovely food friendly staff and a good atmosphere will definitely go back
I booked a table for four of us a while ago for breakfast. We have had excellent breakfasts in the past there & thought it would be an excellent choice for our Bavarian visitors to join us before flying back home. The food was excellent as ever. However I was very disappointed to be taken to our table in the TV & games room of the pub. We informed the waitress we had booked but were informed as we weren’t staying overnight at the Horse & Jockey we couldn’t eat in the restaurant area. Previously when we’ve booked for breakfast we’ve always eaten in the restaurant & the table has been set in preparation. Our guests enjoyed the food - but I felt after seeing the almost empty restaurant that it was a little inflexible to seat us where we were.
Initially, service was a bit slow.
Other than that everything was very good
Convenient location, friendly staff, good that they offer more on a Sunday than just roasts and are serving food into the evening. Would be a nice place to sit outside on a sunny day. Range of wines and beers.
Great night as always, we had a meal before watching the Champions League Final on the big screen tv. Food and service absolutely fine, but the match was rubbish!
Easy table booking on line, great service at the bar followed by excellent service in the restaurant. Food was very tasty and well presented, portions were good, couldn’t manage a dessert after starter and main. Good value for money. Will definitely visit again
We have found if in basement you get forgotten service very poor should be staffed other diners also had to go back to main bar to get service
When we have dined in main upstairs restaurant service very good
We have eaten at the Horse and Jockey on several occasions and always enjoyed excellent food with very good service.
Enjoyed our get together and will return as we have done previously. Good food and service
Absolutely perfect food and good portions are quality and quantity. Definitely rate all three restaurants
Food was awful, my mother sent a side salad back because she asked for no oil or dressing on it and never received it back, so paying £12 pound for a small piece of gammon and pouched egg. Nearly everything on the menu is fried which doesn’t help people that are on diet plans etc. I had a burger where the bun was wet and soggy, I could of got better standard at a weatherspoons. Overall a horrible experience and I will not be returning. Overpriced horrible rubbish. The worst thing is we were not the only people to complain that night either. Worse pub food I have ever encountered.
The service by all the staff was excellent.
We had a Butchers Block, the meat was lovely but sadly most of the veg was only just warm.
We would return but the service downstairs in the ‘basement’ was so slow, some of the food was cold when it arrived and had to be sent back. It was an hour between starters and mains and we had to have our ordered chased. Disappointing
Great food, service and ambience. Will definitely be returning soon.
Staff were friendly, the food however was mediocre and pricey for what it was. There were not 10 chicken wings as stated and they were dry and over cooked. I find it strange how the whitebait came served with heads on as in my experience they always come headless. There were only 3 lamb koftas which I’d expect more for nearly £5 a portion. The trio of sausage was just awful, the Yorkshire pudding like cardboard and the gravy was horrible. When it came to paying there had been an extra pint put on the bill and we hadn’t received 3 small plates for £12.95, the waitress changed this but even after bill added up to £65 when it should have only been £62. We informed the bar staff as we were paying by card, she didn’t understand why this was either and changed this for us. Staff were brilliant. We were greeted on entry, sat at a table quickly and they kept coming and checking on us, the food and the bill situation however let our experience down.
Mid week meal, nice place very good service from friendly staff. The three mixed starters to share very nice. Main course fine though deep fried chicken bit dry and heavy going in my opinion. Knickerbocker glory to share, think we were expecting a fruit one but it was chocolate. Unfortunately the Timothy Taylors was off. All in all good and would go again and sample something different from the menu.
This was the worst meal my wife and I have ever had in this place. The pork belly was string and tough and both our meals were just swimming in gravy. The noise level was so high that we couldn't hear what the staff were saying. Lot of it caused by a child at one table who did nothing but cry and scream nearly all the way through it's meal. We have now decided that it is a place that we will give a wide berth to in future.
Staff very friendly, excellent service, food extremely well presented. Would definitely return if we were in the area.
I used to recommend it to my vegan and veggie friends for its extensive and interesting selection of vegan and veggie food, but they seem to have had a change of policy and they now have just the normal pub type choices, veggie burger, curry, humours, homily pie, etc the latter I had and I wasn’t that impressed, certainly wasn’t I was used to as homily pie, just pastry a bit of potato and a white sauce of some sort. I do hope they go back to the more interesting menu.
Service has never been fast.
First visit to The Horse & Jockey Wessington. We cannot fault anything - food and service were excellent. We will be returning and recommending to friends and family. Thankyou.
The service from one waitress was exceptional. The food was phenomenal and very much worth the money. The decor was stunning with everywhere feeling very clean and hygienic. All the staff were friendly and the seating was spread out so never felt too busy. The outdoor seating facilities were amazing especially on a sunny day it made the experience much more enjoyable.
All the food tasted beautiful there are no complaints and hope to visit again soon
Lovely good well served in beautiful surroundings. My friends and I have eaten here several times and have never been disappointed . Excellent !
1st time we've visited since reopening and we've been missing out! The decor is fab I've stolen some ideas for home. The drinks selection is pretty awesome something for everyone. The staff were attentive, polite and friendly. The food was absolutely amazing not had food that good for awhile. Hats off to the chef!
I am a regular of this place and I am really sad to say it looks like they've changed hands or something as the menu and general way the place is ran is totally different to a few months ago.
the service was terrible I had to ask for drinks and the bill more than once. all the tapas is deep fried gresy tasteless rubbish and the cocktails were weak and the mojito wasn't even made with crushed ice just weak awful drinks.
we were given a free dessert for our troubles but it still wasn't worth £53 for 2 of us and we only had 2 drinks each 3 tapas dishes and the bread they brought out was a sliced loaf of bread!! I sent it back and they then came out with different bread.
We won't be back and I won't be wasting any more of my money there - the old menu was amazing as was the food and service. what a shame!!
We were visiting the area for the weekend and booked up this restaurant. The food was excellent and service was okay. We ate on the lower ground floor which sounded a bit ominous but was in fact a really nice space.
Great value for money
Mother’s Day family burgers were excellent.
Roasts looked good too.
Really nice staff.
Rushed from the minute we arrived. Felt the meal was what was left at the end of the “very busy day” despite it only being 7.30pm we were told the kitchen closed in 5 minutes. Many menu items had run out. The food was very poor with cloggy, dry mashed potatoes, congealed gravy, tasteless carrots, anaemic roast potatoes and a well presented vegan pie that was 95% filled with air and a tasteless vegan cheddar reduction I’m guessing.
Very disappointed as have been a few times. Never again!
We go occasionally for Sunday Lunch, and previously enjoyed good food and good service. However we noticed a number of new staff who just about "did a job". The food was average, for example I ordered the Halibut special which came with 7 potatoes on the plate and nothing else! I had to ask for vegetables.
My wife and I shared a sweet, which really was inedible. Supposed to be raspberry and coconut with sorbet.
Won't be returning again in a hurry!!
An unexpected find on a visit to the area. Will find a reason to come back. Fabulous food and staff
Nice relaxed environment, one of those places where you feel comfortable in jeans or dressed up! Football on however not in your face, just there if you want to keep track of results. Excellent food! Bar staff really pleasant.
We enjoyed our first visit, the young lady serving did get one of the orders wrong and it the wait for the correct order was too long so we just had the meal that was brought out. She did apologise and it was rectified at the end by a manager with a discount, which we appreciate. The food was great and the decor is fresh and modern. We would come again, thank you.
Took my brother, his wife and my mother for Sunday lunch. We were early eaters and never felt pressure to vacate our table even though it got busier as the day went on. My brother is a chef himself and is usually super critical, but apart from his starter, which he warranted an ok overall he was impressed with quality and price. I'm looking forward to coming back again
