The Host in Toronto provides Indian cuisine in a fine-dining establishment complete with white tablecloths. Guests can stop in for a relaxing business lunch, bring the family for dinner or enjoy an intimate date night. Chef Sanjeev infuses each dish with patience and passion, creating flavorful foods using the same techniques since the restaurant started in 1997. Starters at The Host include shared platters, street cuisine, bread, soup, salad and gourmet appetizers that include haryali palak kebab, chicken 65, chowk ki aloo tikki and tandoori khumb. The menu features tandoori, vegetarian curries, traditional curries and bread and rice. The chef's sampler options include the veggie grilled, kebab platter and the chicken trio. Guests can also make their own curry at The Host by choosing from kadhai, Madras and vindaloo sauces, their spice level and the meat, vegetable and cheese add-ons they prefer.

It is a great place which has been there forever for a reason and very frequented by Indian people therefore, it means is good and serves rean Indian food. We waited over 20 minutes for a table and we had a reservation!

Very nice food and in a great area. The mango dip and chips was great that they give you once you sit down. They also gave us an appetizer to try and an order of rice with our naan because I couldn’t decide which I wanted.

The food was excellent. Our party of seven had several different dishes and all of us were extremely pleased. However, one of us is a vegan and the staff didn't really understand what that meant. For them vegan chicken was actual chicken prepared without any dairy products, not a meat substitute. Really quite surprising in an Indian restaurant.

the food, ambiance, location is all great. The little put off was the service. We placed the order in advance and being a working lunch wanted a little faster service. the restaurant wasn't full to be a reason for delayed service. Something to work upon.

Overall a great experience.

Their Friday lunch buffet is very nicely priced at $18. Wide selection of delicious entrees, apps, and dessert.

We were a party of two and shared a delicious dinner of the chili shrimp for our appetizer and the lamb roganjosh, chicken tikka masala and the shrimp biryani for our main. Every dish was delicious and the service was great! We will definitely go back!

The second time I ate there that week. Please see my previous review.
I was seated in the dining room at the rear which was quiet and dimly lit.
Noodle Bhel was very good and refreshing.
Dilli Walla Butter Chicken with Basmati rice was good but not as good as the Noodle Bhel.
This time I had Keith's Canadian beer, which was better than the Cheetah.
My waiter seemed to be somewhat distracted — possibly by a large party dining in the same room.
He didn't bring me the usual plate of puppodums to start and service was somewhat erratic.
Since I was in no hurry, it was not a problem.

I discovered this place many years ago. I love Indian food and I make a point of dining here whenever I come to Toronto. The menu is varied and one can hardly go wrong.
I have always been impressed by the number of Indians — often whole families with children — dining here when I visit. I take that as a very good sign.
I very much enjoyed the Manchurian Ghobi recommended by my waiter. The Lamb Rogan Josh with Naan was very nice, and so was Pistachio Kulfi.
Cheetah beer needed more hops. I gather that Kingfisher, which I like, is no longer available.

We dined at The Host for lunch. They provided a smaller menu which offered a great selection of all our favorites and at a great price! A few of our choices .... samosas, butter chicken and their insanely delicious Naan bread were enjoyed by all. Service was excellent.

The restaurant itself is quite dated and the atmosphere is not what you would expect to take a date to. The food was a hit and miss, the Bread was great, Lamb Vindaloo was good but the Kadai Chicken was just horrible.

We called the server over and told him that the sauce was basically just tomato sauce without any flavor or taste and boiled pieces of chicken and instead with of apologizing or attempting to correct it he just stood there for sometime and then just left as if it was our problem.

So, overall I would not go there again and definitely would not advise any of my friends to do so either.
