The Italian Cafe at The Ocean Beach Hotel & Spa
Very enjoyable lunch in a smart environment, the side orders of olives and salad etc really enhanced at great meal.
Nice staff and food was delicious 😋
The carbonara was the best I’ve ever eaten but my son commented on how the calzone was not what he expected as upon opening it up, he was met with a layer of soggy cheese and what we believed to be chicken with lumps of strange ham on top, not very appetising at all. However, the Garlic Bread was delicious and came in abundance. The ambience was nice and the waiters and waitresses were kind and very helpful despite how busy they were.
Loved the venue and the food was very good the service was excellent and made us feel very welcome
We were upstairs, Monday evening, not full but still many tables occupied, mostly hotel guests.
The service was very friendly, the food was good. We drank a nice wine and the bill was reasonable.
So I can recommend this restaurant.
Great food and service beautful outlook over the ocean
Although the cafe could not find our reservation, we were made very welcome and they quickly found us a suitable table - in fact allowed us to choose from those still available. We had a bit of a wait to order drinks and the food, but otherwise did not wait long for the starters and main course to arrive.
We both ordered starters of deep fried calamari, which were cooked to perfection, very tender and not rubbery or chewy as squid can sometimes be. We followed that with seafood linguine. They were generous portions, with a great variety and plenty of seafood. Whilst my wife's had lots of white wine sauce, mine was a little drier. The service was very attentive.
Lovely hotel. Welcoming by staff. Lovely pool and spa facilities. Great room service and an upgrade on our room. Just lovely. Beautiful view.
Standard fayre, nothing wrong at all but not outstanding. Price on the high side but convenient as we were staying next door. Noisy wedding party though.
View good, attentive service. Good quality of food and value for money. The surroundings were very pleasant and I enjoyed my lunch.
Fantastic food well presented and good menu choice
Service a little slow
I will definitely be going there again
For a start the staff were stressed out of their minds as I think the hotel had a function. But it was unfair to leave the staff in our restaurant exposed. It wasn't even as though there were many people in the restaurant. When we arrived they didn't seem to know about our booking and i had to show the confirmation on my phone before they would believe me. They asked us to wait but then showed other people to a table as the girl on the desk had failed to tell the waiter about us, So the service was patchy. The food was OK without being memorable. There was virtually no atmosphere in the place and we were glad to leave.
Food is excellent. Really excellent. But sadly our service was disappointing. We were on a table behind a large yellow pillar and felt very forgotten.
If they work on their service they’ll have a superb proposition. I really hope they do. Imroving service must be easier than improving food, I guess.
Also, please don’t let this put you off. Maybe they just had an off day? The pizzas were superb. I had the Chefs Carbanara which was one of the best I’ve ever had.
We live locally and eat here fairly regularly and the staff are lovely and the freshly made pizzas gorgeous. A great little place and not expensive. It's a hotel but the restaurant is open to non residents
Disappointing meal. Hadn't been before, but had heard good things, but we both felt that the food was fairly average (lasagne rather dry) and no longer serving Gigi's ice-cream, which is not only the best, but locally made. The atmosphere was ok, but nothing special - it all felt a bit squashed - and the service was fine, but again, nothing special. We agreed that we might be likely to go back for a lunch/pizza special if we were in the area, but wouldn't make a special journey, and certainly wouldn't choose it for an evening meal out.
Good hearty meal and tasty . Very good service . Great location.
The service was good and staff lovely but the pizza was terrible. A huge mound of plastic cheese with cheap chunks of ham scattered on top. Really wouldn’t recommend it.
we love this Italian, my husband and I stayed for the night in ocean beach hotel on new years eve, fantastic live singer, lovely experience fab rooms then a lovely walk along the beach plus pizza after, super, so lovely I took a friend there on Thursday evening again fantastic food and lovely atmosphere, highly recommend this place, lovely waiters and waitresses too.
The staff were very good however there was a large party taking place in the hotel and this impacted on the quality of food we were served. Two of us had the Veal Milanese which was so dry we did not want to persevere with it and the underside of it was burnt. The size of the pasta dish for another of our party was more akin to a starter portion.
We were offered a discount off our bill which, when the bill was presented to us, was a discount of £5.73 for two meals that were almost inedible.
We had to complain again to the management as we felt this was more of an insult than a "peace offering". The management did agree and took the price of a bottle of Prosecco off our bill and gave us a food voucher for £25 for use in the next year but not sure if we will take them up on it as we were told the head chef had left!!
Generally fine but we where not much impressed by some if the pizzas. The four cheese pizza was the same colour/mix all over - more usually these pizzas are split into four distinct mixes. The person who had it left most of it as it was too bland. The so called spicy pizzas where not noticeably so.
We didn't want to dine in our hotel so decided on this venue. On arrival, it seemed slightly unfriendly and we were asked to take a seat but once we were at our table, everything was great. The food service was "leisurely" but we don't mind that at all; why rush a meal if there is no need and you are in pleasant company? The food was excellent and the portions very generous. My partner said that before we had left our hotel he had read some of the reviews and they were less than complimentary but we could find no fault at all with the main course. I had the vegetarian calzone and he had the meat version, both were huge. I think we chose unwisely for the dessert, however, tiramisu which we thought was rather stodgy. We finished our meal with a cocktail and overall it was an enjoyable eating experience and good value for money. I would have no hesitation recommending The Italian Cafe at The Ocean Beach Hotel and Spa !
