All was going well except the waiter seemed to know our order before we told him and was therefore eavesdropping to our conversations and then started flirting with my wife which humiliated and embarrassed me in front of my family. Disrespectful and disappointing. The food was great. The waiter was a tall slim English man in his 30s. Was the sole waiter on the garden patio at 5pm when we arrived.

Made this reservation some time ago back in June for dinner on August 13th. Had lunch there day before and advised front of house that we would be in the following night for the dinner reservation. We dined downstairs for lunch in the main body of the restaurant which represented what the Ivy was all about, good atmosphere and the special interior design which is so familiar with all of their other restaurants , the food the atmosphere and the service was good. On Saturday we arrived only to be trekked up several flights of stairs to a part of the restaurant that I can only describe as the 2nd class lounge, this had no atmosphere the table wobbled almost like one of those temporary tables you get at a corporate event and all food had to be carried up the several flights of stairs that we had endured. I ordered the Chicken Milanese that had a fried egg on the top, the egg was hard, the chicken was overcooked and the food was luke warm as it was with the rest of my party, this was due to the distance it had to travel from the kitchen to our table, I kid you not it was a long way. Mentioned this to the waiter who offered to change but I declined as could not see a different outcome unless he was going to bring the kitchen upstairs. The meal cost £270 for 4 people not cheap but it was very average at best, had better takeaways than that. Most of all we were so disappointed to be seated in such a place devoid of atmosphere and detached from the rest of civilisation, it made you think you were an afterthought and the food is never going to be piping hot by the time you get it. Its certainly put me off ever making a reservation at any of The Ivy restaurants again, my advice would be to turn up and if you do not like the table walk away, I certainly wish I had done that there are many cheaper and better quality restaurants who value and appreciate their customers more than these people did, restaurants should not have bad tables or seating areas !

Really lovely. Lost marks for delay on one side order - although the waiter communicated this. Lost marks for having to sit as a couple next to another couple - which felt a bit weird on date night! Lost marks for delay waiting after finishing main course. Overall, food, atmosphere, professionalism of staff - made an exceptional evening. I have previously attended afternoon tea here and that experience nearly put me off attending the evening. Afternoon tea - meat sandwiches served after asking for vegetarian, polite waitress but she struggled with english, waiter who apologised did not listen to my request to explain new sandwiches delivered, hot, crowded, noisy. Waitress had no understanding of menu of teas. Terrible. So glad I gave them a second chance as the evening setting was a complete and welcome contrast. I would return again for an evening meal but not for afternoon tea.

Our 2nd visit to The Ivy and our last. Served a tepid bottle of sparkling (actually not sparkling but semi sparkling) water @ £4.75. Waitress didn't bring the top so it soon went flat. My £33.95 steak smelt and tasted of fish. As soon as the waitress served it I immediately knew it wasn't right. G are the waitress to sell it. She told me it was supposed to smell like that! Advised it must have been cooked on the same grill used for fish. The steak and £4.50 chips were returned to the kitchen. Ruined the evening which was my husbands birthday.

My friend and I had the afternoon tea. We were early so had a drink at the bar. The bar staff were excellent and our drinks were perfect. When were called to our table, I was a little disappointed to find that it was just behind where we had been sitting at the bar and was a rather small table for two. The waitress brought one large cake stand containing 3 types of sandwiches and cakes, another smaller stand each with scones, cream and jam and a teapot each. This, together with the cups and saucers and plates and cutlery, made the table very cramped. If we had taken our drinks from the bar, everything would not have fitted on the table. My friend was treating me, so I did not want to upset her by asking to be moved, but there were plenty of larger tables and these should be used for afternoon tea, as the staff know in advance how overloaded the tables for two will be. The teapot handles got very hot and there wasn't room to manoeuvre them on the table. I was tempted to stand up to pour. I was also surprised that we were expected to use the same small plates for the sandwiches as for the cakes and also the same cutlery, only being given knives and forks. There was a small flowerpot containing a chocolate cake, and I asked the waitress what I should use to eat it. She told me to use the fork! She offered to get me a small spoon, but surely this should already be on the table? Overall I enjoyed the food. The chicken and the smoked salmon sandwiches were delicious, however the last sandwich, which was white bread and cucumber, had become a little dry on the top. It was a very hot day, maybe that was why. The scones were lovely, but the chocolate pot was too sweet for my taste, and I took the other two cakes home as I couldn't finish them. I'm not sure if I would go again, it was all a bit awkward. I might recommend it to a friends, but would advise them to ask for a bigger table if they are two.

This Ivy is incredible- particularly nice and quirky decor. However it’s the fabulous service that makes this one worth a visit. From the minute we entered until we left, we were attended to incredibly well and treated impeccably. My local is the Ivy in Cheltenham but it’s not a patch on the Bath Ivy. We went on a Friday lunch time and it wasn’t busy - the food was top notch and so tasty. Set menu is a great price too. Would highly recommend the duck/beef paparadelle and the truffle and Parmesan chips. Thank you to the staff who made our visit so special.

3 out of 4 of us had the set menu which was very good value for money. We were served by Toby who had only been working at the restaurant for a week which we would never have guessed unless he had told us, brilliant service from him. Great selection of cocktails. We went to celebrate my daughter’s 18th birthday and she had a surprise at the end of the meal. Great couple of hour’s we will be returning.

A little bit precious, but all in all a pleasant dining experience. Decor is very busy and in your face, but the restaurant is spacious and comfortable. Food was good, but service was a bit slow, considering the number of staff milling around. Quite expensive, but one is paying for the Ivy name I suppose.

We had booked to sit outside on the terrace and got lucky with our recent glorious weather. The terrace was beautiful with a lovely calm ambiance. The food was delicious. I have hated shepherds pie since I was a child but felt if I was ever going to order it it should be at The Ivy. It didn’t disappoint ! The service was impeccable from start to finish and for value for money the restaurant can’t be beaten.
