The Ivy Cambridge Brasserie
Great food and unrushed service. A real feel of opulent dining. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
FANTASTIC meal, the food and service was first glass. I’ve never tasted such delicious olives and sourdough bread which was just to nibble on before the starters arrived. The staff were so attentive without being intrusive. We don’t normally eat three courses but it was all so delicious we couldn’t resist!
The Ivy was great, but totally let down by using PLASTIC STRAWS!!!! I will not go back there until they change their policy! Couldn’t believe places still do in this day & age!!
Great evening with my fine dining group. We have been before and had an equally great evening.
Not great. Far too many tables for the size of the restaurant which directly contributes to all the issues we faced:
1) Way too noisy, literally couldn't hear each other without raising our voices which everyone else was doing to be heard themselves
2) Food was cold and served on cold plates, assume because it was cooked and then had to wait too long for service to bring it out
3) Tables were so close together that when the adjacent table was being served the waiter's behind was stuffed in my face - great if you like that sort of thing but not on a romantic night out.
Being fair to them they spotted we hadn't eaten the food (because it was cold) and gave a partial refund but we wouldn't go again. Shame because it looks a lovely venue and if hot the food looked like it could have been tasty but needs at least 20% less tables in the space and a lot more sound absorbing furniture/wall features to work in the long term.
Nice decor and a very good bar. Don't come here for the food though as the cooking is very ordinary. Perhaps we just picked a bad evening but I could have done better myself at home.
Absolutely delicious food and excellent service. Brilliant dining experience.
Nice dinner experience and good value for money. Very nice service
Beautiful place, great atmosphere and amazing food, drinks and service. Only downside is that it’s quite loud so having a normal conversation is a bit difficult. Otherwise, perfect.
An all round amazing experience which made for a very memorable family celebration. Loved as much by us (40s) as my parents (70s) and we are harsh critics! Top class service, food and drinks. My Keralan monkfish and prawn curry was to die for, as was the steak, blackened cod, veal and lamb apparently! A very buzzy and vibrant atmosphere. The espresso martinis at the bar whilst waiting for the taxi home were the icing on the cake. And the decor....we just loved it! We’ll definitely be back.
Seated a a brilliant tabel right in the middle of the restaurant. Service attentive but not fussy. Food very good as always. Love this city and love this place
The food is delicious and the choices for non-meat eaters is very good. The drinks were also excellent. However, I will not return on a Saturday as it was so noisy - and the tables are so close together - that we literally had to shout at each other. Hence, there was also no privacy.
We very much enjoyed our champagne afternoon tea at the Ivy to celebrate our wedding anniversary. When we arrived, the service we received was excellent. The food was fantastic and we both enjoyed every item on the plate.
The only downside to our experience is that we appeared to be there during the staff shift changeover. This meant that we were left sitting virtually ignored for nearly half an hour, with an empty table in front of us. We were not offered a drinks menu, which we would have very much appreciated, nor did anyone check in to see if there was anything else we would like. Eventually, we had to flag a passing staff member down to ask for our bill, which is not the ideal ending to the experience. We have envisioned relaxing over a cocktail when we had finished eating, but instead we both became quite frustrated as we appeared invisible to the staff who had just started their shift.
We would certainly return to The Ivy, and would recommend it to others, but we would likely plan ahead to avoid the period around 5pm!
Beautiful food (including an excellent vegetarian menu). The cocktails were fabulous. Very loud which was fine for us but not brilliant for something like afternoon tea.
A nice menu, good service and good atmosphere
Perfect for a Saturday lunch
Lovely food, excellent service, very buzzy, prices reasonable given total experience.
Took my parents.
Wonderful meal and exceptional discreet service. Only down side was the noise level. The restaurant seating is tight and as it was full, together with loud music, we had to raise our voices to chat.
Great service and great food : ) Bought my friend out a sweet little birthday dessert and candle etc as it was her 40th, nice touch.
Excellent service good to be able to book. Food excellent
Already recommended to two friends to try it out. Beautiful place
The atmosphere in the restaurant is warm and welcoming and the food was pretty good too. The desserts, although pricey were delicious.
The only thing I would say I wasn't too keen on was the constant asking if we wanted more to drink, we must have been asked at least 7 times in our time there. We felt as if they were told to get more drink and alcohol sales. Apart from that os was lovely.
The food was great (especially the sea bass with aubergine and pesto), and the service impeccable. The menu tends to list main courses without accompaniments, so be aware that if you choose a side dish or two, prices do mount up. Good for a special meal, not the place to pop in for something quick.
We had the set menu and very nice it was too. My friends had the salmon and thought there should have been more of the accompanying pasta.
Great food amazing service ever food value , highly recommended x
It was a lovely service and great food. We would have liked a table a little more private and further into the restaurant. as this was a birthday meal and was put with people eating general light lunches. But overall we will come back
Lovely atmosphere. We went on live jazz night which was a nice surprise. The shepherds pie was lovely, but not sure if it warranted the price tag. Wine was lovely but pricey. Veg a little hard for my liking. Wouldn’t put me off going again on a special occasion.
Great selection of classic and modern dishes, ambience is really good and music is spot on
Great ambience for us as a group of four, fantastic menu, the food was excellent and enjoyed by all.
We had such a delicious lunch - the highlight of our flying visit to Cambridge. The beautiful colourful decor made it almost a theatrical event. We had the set menu, every course divine, especially the slightly spiced creamed crab on a circle of fresh red watermelon, garnished like a work of art. This is our second visit to The Ivy chain - we have one in our hometown of Winchester - and we can’t wait to visit again. No, this review isn’t a fake - it really was this good 😀 Accessible (for us), high-end eating out.
Could not have asked for a better overall lunch. Perfect.
We had lunch from the short well-chosen menu available during the day. The setting was delightful, the food was refined but unpretentious, and the service was excellent. There was a bit of a wait for the main course but they were busy and we were kept informed.
The food was reasonably good (great starter - the duck salad, very okay main course - the lobster linguine. Truffles at the end - not great). But the service on a Monday night was pretty bad for this sort of place. Lots of small things (long waits, groups seated too close together despite place being half empty, wine brought at wrong time, forgot that it was birthday, waiters chatting to each other, ignoring tables etc) just felt pretty poor for a place charging these prices.
I suspect this is because it was a Monday night (stand-in staff?). But for the same price (around £70 per head) I'd strongly advise trying Cotto instead. Overall a pretty disappointing night, we won't be coming back.
Nce place, good food, excellent service and reasonable.
Our meal at the Ivy was so good that we went back again next day. The Ivy is something special
We love The Ivy where ever they are and we have been to quite a few. Always quality, lovely staff and great food.
A lovely brunch celebrating my daughters 21st birthday a little early. Yannis looked after the four of us us and ‘guessed’ we were celebrating something. Brought out a cute little birthday cake with candle as we drank our coffee. Yannis is a real asset and clearly loves his work.
Food was terrific!and like the other Ivy’s we have been to in London and St Albans a beautiful venue with lovely ambiance and great staff.
Great food and service
Not vegetarian friendly, and the menu is restricted if you don’t like/can’t have seafood, but our meal was delicious. Nice venue for a special occasion.
All good except for the high noise level. I had left my hearing aids at home in anticipation but was still a little surprised. The positives outweighed the noise although that wouldn’t have been the case if we had been seeking a quiet evening meal.
