Visited for a friends birthday. Fantastic food, ambiance and service. Friday lunchtime well spent.
Amazing best place to eat in guildford.
I brought my husband here for his 80th birthday as a treat. We were given a table at the side of the room which was good as the noise levels were quite high. Nice though to see people enjoying themselves.
The food was delicious. I had a yummy prawn cocktail followed by the pork cutlet. It was so tender it was like putting a hot knife through butter. Our waiter was most helpful and very attentive. We really enjoyed our evening and are looking forward to our next visit. Thank you so much.
Wonderful evening over looking the castle, food was exceptional
Great service and great food
The food and ambience at the Ivy is wonderful but the service is so variable.
Two waiters were excellent but the waitress looking after our table could not have cared less and for example, left a table cloth covered in red wine without ever offering to change it
The location is to die for. The atmosphere is second to none. I had booked a cream tea for my wife and daughter. We were given a lovely table looking out toward the castle ruin.
The tea looked beautiful...but my smaller sandwich’s were slightly stale. The tea was my main issue. English breakfast served in a seriously heavy ornate tea pot. Alas there was only 1.5 cups of tea in the pot so we had to order more. This is where the afternoon began to fall apart. The service was so slow. The replacement pot arrived 20 mins later with no offer of replacements for my wife or daughter. We needed more jam 20 min wait for a bowl of jam the size of an egg cup. So sorry IVY you cannot be TOP end if you do not give TOP end service.
Super lunch, food was delicious, fish cake with poached egg, service good, lovely ambiance. Will definitely return
Was a lovely brunch catching up with friends. Great view. Did get a little noisy at lunch time.
Delicious food particularly the Lobster risotto. Good atmosphere.
Good friendly and efficient service.
Attentive waitress and very helpful.
Just the right feel for meeting up with my business colleagues.
a thoroughly enjoyable experience, lovely staff, so friendly
This is by far my favourite place in Guildford. Beautiful setting, gorgeous food and very professional and friendly staff. I have taken guests on various occasions for breakfast or dinner and we have all been delighted on every occasions. This trip was for dinner and it was so amazing one guest nipped back in for lunch the next day! Fabulous place.
We came to the Ivy Castle View for my wife's birthday, and she was greeted at the front desk with a friendly "Happy Birthday". We chose from the set menu that was available before 7pm, and enjoyed the 3 courses. The only notable thing that would have turned our visit from a good one to a great one was that the fact it was my wife's birthday was obviously not passed on to the waiting staff by the front desk. This meant that while the gentleman on the table next to ours received a small something with a candle in it at the same time as dessert, as we have previously too, she was left feeling a little left out.
Very nice food and relaxed atmosphere on a Sunday evening
Food good, service was terrible. I have eaten here many times before and never had a complaint, so hope that this is an exception. I do not expect a restaurant of this reputation to provide such a poor level of service.
Nice first experience and enjoyed the ambiance and service. Food was ok but one meal (burger) was disappointingly dry. Also charged for water without asking or providing a choice.
Great food. Good service. Excellent value. Can be busy and a bit noisy.
Excellent service, food and presentation outstanding. Looking forward to my next meal at the Ivy
Menu good but would expect sides to be included as part of the main meals, also bread and butter to be complimentary when you arrive.
Excellent service from our waitress Louella and more than happy to pay the service charge to her (and not the company) so quite rightly removed it from the bill and gave the cash to Louella. This practice of not giving the serving staff all their service charge should be stopped.
The restaurant was very loud and quite off putting, appreciate its busy but would like more ambience to the evening out.
Would be happy to return, appreciated the touch of a small cake for my wife's birthday
First time to the Ivy ,the staff were fantastic , treated us very well and with great manners with a smile, could not do enough for us, will definitely be back, enjoyed the experience , last years Xmas presents, hopefully Santa will bring back the same gift.
A beautiful venue, lovely atmosphere and delicious food!
Lovely experience... felt very spoilt.
Service & food were perfect
Meal was a disaster. We had a table of 8 7 of us had steak and four went back as they were cold. 10 mins later the chips came out, then a further 10mins later the second steaks came out so the chips were then cold again. One of the steaks was well over cooked and they didn’t replace the sides we had on our original plates all in all a disaster. Very disappointing when it was supposed to be a special dinner much better steak restaurants around that are also better value, I thought £5 for a small bottle of beer was a bit much
The chips were overcooked. The fish was undercooked and not crispy. All in all average. Not a patch on Ivy in Wimbledon or Winchester or Cobham. Quite disappointed really.
The service was very slow. Our table was booked for 5:15pm hardly anyone was seated. So not busy!! It took 20mins to get Berry Smoothie as first drink! I had the burger, chips were warm. They agreed to replace them, but wanted to take whole meal away. My daughter already had started her meal so I just asked for replacement Chips. It took 10mins to replace them by which time the burger was cold and my daughter felt guilty not waiting, although her food would have gone cold as we were in in draft from the entrance. We were sat by the entrance. As it got busier everyone stands there looking at you eat, sometimes commenting or asking about what you are eating, listening to your conversation or subjecting you to their conversation, as they wait to be slowly seated or collect their costs. They need to put in a screen up for more privacy and to avoid the constant draft. Of course, they can’t stop rude customer with bad manners!!
Fabulous birthday lunch with friends...a very professional service with great food and a lovely ambience...
We celebrated a special birthday at the Ivy which I had called ahead for to request a cake etc. Unfortunately when we got there our table was in the serving / till area. It was very cramped - the round tables are not sufficient size for 4 adults plus wine, water and all the glasses let alone plates so we were constantly moving. The staff were very attentive, a slightly more relaxed approach. While the food was to a good standard, the cramped dining experience impacted our meal.
Faultless food friendly service and a lovely setting
An excellent restaurant. Good food and impeccable service. The wines are a bit expensive but the whole experience is well worth the money.
The service and food were excellent. It was a very pleasant seating arrangement. The only problem was the noise level. As a party of four it was difficult to converse without shouting. Apart from that we had a lovely evening.
This was a lovely lunch with an old friend in great surroundings.
Excellent service and food. We were well looked after and were even given a birthday cake and candle
Delivers the usual and reliable Ivy standards of ambiance service food and price.
lamb served as main course was not tender and somewhat dry as tho it had been cooked some time previously and kept warm on a hot plate. This was particularly disappointing as on a previous visit I had had the lamb and it was quite excellent. My dissatisfaction was made known to staff who were responsive.
The service was excellent, very attentive, and we weren't rushed. The food was delicious and very tasty. Unfortunately the bill was a shock, and this spoiled our evening. We had no idea that the Kir Royales were so expensive, and frankly extremely overpriced, and we are so glad we only had one each and no wine in the end. Overpricing leaves a bad taste, however gorgeous the food. What a shame.
Lovely setting, friendly staff. Service slow and inattentive at times. Service needs to be spot on if you’re going to charge a service charge!
Love the food presentation and delivery.
Both my starter and main could have been a lot hotter, but I didn’t feel like complaining as it would have spoilt my experience. However a great venue and the pluses outweigh the minuses. Definitely my favourite chain restaurant by far. Wish there was one in Devon!
We were there for a quick lunch and really enjoyed the surroundings and the delicious food.
Soup was watery and not that hot. Service was slow but waiter had a lot of tables
Very pleasant lunch. Good welcome and everything else followed.
