The Ivy Castle View
With an all-encompassing menu serving modern British and international Ivy-inspired classics from dawn until dusk, the restaurant is open seven days a week and is also featuring a private dining room, outdoor terrace and a bar, offering tranquil relaxed yet sophisticated dining with beautiful views across Guildford Castle.
Enjoyed another lovely evening at The Ivy. First time for Steak Tartar. Excellent. Will definitely have that again.
Overall very good but wine prices extortionate
I would recommend the Ivy to a friend who may be celebrating a birthday or something special. The food we had was ok but nothing particularly good on this occasion. The chips with my main course were overdone, but when I mentioned to the waitress they were replaced with a fresh portion which were lovely. It was my birthday and note was taken of this, and a tiny cake with a candle was brought to our table.
Our waiter was charming and attentive. The food was glorious and the view stunning. Thank you for a lovely lunch
I’d initially booked COTE as I’ve been there previously, but changed my mind and cancelled COTE and booked The Ivy for breakfast instead.
The service wasn’t perfect but was good, but I thought the food presentation was poor. I like to see my food well presented on the plate, but the oval shaped plate wasn’t large enough to move food about, and I’m assuming the lack of space available was the reason for the double stacking of eggs one on top of the other and of the Black pudding stacked on top of the flat mushroom too.
I choose a pot of the breakfast tea to compliment my meal, but wrongly assumed the a pot of tea would deliver two cups. In the event the pot could only deliver one and was almost empty by that. I drew the attention of a waiter and asked how many cups of tea a pot would usually provide, and She said “about two”. I said I thought so too, and said I’d only managed one from my pot. She offered me another pot but didn’t indicate that she recognised my displeasure nor made any attempt to reassure me I wasn’t being unreasonable to assume I’d not been given adequate water in the pot. I had no idea what so ever until the bill arrived, whether this second pot was chargeable because I’d said yes to another pot, or whether because of my comments, it was free of charge as a gesture and acknowledgment of the error.
I was offered water for the table free of charge, and requested a glass of orange juice; both were perfectly lovely.
The total cost including the fee of charge second pot of tea, and the 12.5% tip amounted to more that £24 which for what I had seemed to be a little expensive.
My previous visit to the town was in May last year, and as already mentioned, I breakfasted at COTE, not 100mtrs from The Ivy, for virtually the same breakfast including a hot drink and fruit juice served with toast and butter, the bill came to under £14 including the same 12.5% tip.
For breakfast anyway, I would choose COTE which is the better value by quite some margin.
Great service and delicious food, but a little pricey!
Always feels a great occasion when dining here. Service and food are always exceptional. Never fails to impress.
Daughters 21st birthday
Wonderful. Was given best table in the room
Great food, great service, lovely place. A bit noisy on a Saturday night!
Great food, wine and ambience, would definitely recommend to friends.
Great service, friendly staff and fantastic food. Couldn’t fault any of the experience. Will definitely be returning in the future
We had a lovely girls lunch, food was great and service was brilliant! Can’t wait to go again!
We really enjoyed our lunch the food was superb! Friendly staff and great service
We will definitely be back
Appalling. Cold food had to be sent back. Waited 25 minutes for aperitifs to arrive. Worst fish and chips I've ever had.
This was a first time visit as a treat for my daughter’s birthday . Food and service were excellent however we were seated in the new veranda area away from all the other dinners and it was absolutely freezing and felt isolated . The table next to us also complained about the freezing draught . I had to sit on my hands it was that cold !
Good waiter, apart from when waiting for the bill , the manager forgot to give it to us I think. We waited a while.
Very expensive for the food received, you are paying the price for the service not the food.
Very noisy, and tables of two extremely close together.
Wouldn’t go again.
I had been to The Ivy London Bridge on a couple of occasions for work and with friends and enjoyed it, I wasn’t sure how this would measure up but it was great. The same high standard of food, engaging staff and a good atmosphere. The restaurant was busy with groups of all ages and sizes. My husband had no experience of the Ivy but just kept saying how good it was and how much he enjoyed it. Which was good as it was his birthday!! We will definitely go again and pleased that we don’t have to go bro central London to have a good evening.
Good service, good food and very pleasant ambience.
Excellent location and have eaten at the Ivy on numerous occasions.
Staff very professional.
The staff were attentive and not over bearing. They made good recommendations and were quick to respond to our requests. My husband ordered a medium rare steak which was served medium but it was still tender and flavoursome. They offered a free dessert and it was escalated to the manager. It was a lovely setting, perfect backdrop of the castle view and a happy memory created.
Breakfast wasn't very hot but aside from that, a great ambience.
We had a lovely evening, the service was excellent and food delicious!
The Ivy Castle really needs to improve the quality of food. Our recent lunch was dry and tasteless so overpriced and underwhelming.
Staff were very friend and attentive, which made my husband's birthday truly special
We’ve used this Ivy before and found it to be just as good this time. Great food and lovely staff. Try the Ivy in Winchester, it’s also a top venue for a family event or just a good quality lunch.
We visited the Ivy last Saturday night and as expected the restaurant was extremely busy but we sat down at our table exactly on time. All the staff were extremely friendly and polite, our order was taken and starters arrived in no time at all, this was followed by our main meal again with very little wait(most impressive) considering there were still more diners arising, our waitress Lexi P who we must say is an absolute credit to your restaurant ( sadly it was her last shift before returning to Uni in Manchester but will continue to work at the Manchester Restaurant ). We were recommended to the Ivy by my son but as we live in Bournemouth have only just managed a visit, we have already given rave reviews to some of friends who live locally.
A fantastic evening super food and great atmosphere love the buzzy feel and good quality service.
A gorgeous experience, delightful from arrival to departure- can’t fault it. Our waitress was charming. Loved all the details like pouring sauces, cloakroom and beautiful napkins. Ent for my dads 80th with my three children and all generations left feeling spoilt and asking when we could go again!
The staff very curtisy & friendly, food extremely good on all four meals & could not fault a thing, cooked to perfection. Would highly recommend.
Fantastic Evening food great service great
A nice enough meal but it was insanely noisy - made conversation with my parents (who are in their 70s) rather difficult.
Great Service. We ordered the blackened cod and shepherds pie. The cod was overcooked and the shepherds pie required more seasoning. The food hasn’t been great if late.
We have been a few times since it opened but it was disappointing this week. Previously the service was excellent and we felt like valued customers. This visit was more like the standard of service in other restaurants. Whilst not bad, it was just not special. Afternoon tea was very good, but why no Assam tea?
This was our first visit to the Ivy and it was a delightful experience.
The food was lovely, especially the fish cake.
Will be coming again soon.
It wasn't husband's 50th and it definitely made special. Food was gorgeous and the service excellent. The only thing I would criticise is that they are still using plastic straws
A lovely venue to celebrate my wife’s birthday which was made better by the excellent service by Millie. A personal thanks to her for her attention. Great food and thank you very much
Food good but a few issues, one portion of chips arrived well into the main meal, service was slow. Had to ask for bill no one came to check how things were going or if we wanted more drinks so we only had one through the meal
Lovely afternoon tea, the only thing I would change is the sandwiches which were cold as though they had been stored in the fridge, making the bread hard. Great service and will definitely be back.
