The Ivy Castle View
With an all-encompassing menu serving modern British and international Ivy-inspired classics from dawn until dusk, the restaurant is open seven days a week and is also featuring a private dining room, outdoor terrace and a bar, offering tranquil relaxed yet sophisticated dining with beautiful views across Guildford Castle.
Consistent food and great cocktails.
Great food with the same great attentive service in a very safe environment. Can’t wait to come back
Scanning the QR code on entry was a fiasco and led to the staff member spending time with huddles of customers right in the middle of the entrance and exit. It surely defeats the object. But this was the only criticism of the occasion which was, overall extremely pleasant. The restaurant was clean and airy, well spaced and there was even individual scented disinfectant spray on the table. I would have no qualms about visiting again.
We waited a long time for anyone to serve us for drinks or food, in fact for drink and food orders we always had to flag someone down.
Put of the 4 meals,
1. Minute steak well over cooked
2. Asked for hollondaise on the side for one dish, never was served
3. Halloumi and cous cous main course for £13.50 was the actual size of a starter.
4. Eggs royale one poached egg good, one solid.
Wouldn't rush back.
lovely breakfast, the decor and feel of the place was perfect. no issues due to covid
We had a late booking at 9pm, so I called the day before to check if the opening times of the Ivy had been affected by new COVID restrictions. I was informed the day before our booking (the Friday) that this was not the case and that they had the usual opening times. We took a £40 taxi on Saturday to the ivy so we could enjoy our evening, however upon arrival on we were told that the ivy would be closed by 10pm. We were very hungry so settled for food, but were upset that our experience was cut short when we’d very carefully checked the opening times. We like the ivy very much, but would have appreciated clarity on opening times and would have rebooked to have more time at the ivy to celebrate our anniversary.
An excellent evening celebrating a family birthday.. We had a fabulous evening even with the new Covid restrictions. Staff were very efficient and made us feel very welcome even though we had to vacate the restaurant by 10 pm.
We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and were looked after wonderfully.
The food, staff our table was just great, will be going back.
Our second visit to the Castle view Ivy and it lived up to our expectations as it was also for an anniversary.
The service was impeccable even with the special Covid procedures, and the food maintained the high standards experienced previously.
Will definitely go again
Melt in your mouth Courgette fritti while we choose our mains, beautifully cooked Salmon fillet, staff attentive and on the ball. delicious drinks, Lovely lunch, just what we'd been missing. Thank you.
Delicious food and very pleasant decor but our experience was marred by an extremely noisy table of half a dozen men enjoying an extended boozy lunch.
At times we were unable to hear each other over the loud laughter and shouting. The waiting staff were apologetic but ineffective in dealing with the situation.
We would rebook if only we could be assured that there would not be a repeat of the performance!
Although it’s a chain, there’s still a lovely ambience in the Restaurant and the food is good quality. You pay a bit more because of the name but I think the experience and higher level of service you get is worth it. It’s beautifully decorated and great in summer should you wish to eat on the terrace outside. It’s our go-to place in Guildford when we fancy a little treat while out shopping. Great for Breakfast, Brunch or lunch.
I had a burger which was very dry and tasteless . The service and social distancing and noise levels were good
The food at the Ivy is always spot on. Previous to this visit we had only visited the Cobham Brassiere and the food and service was equally exceptional. We do prefer the ambiance at Cobham but this didn’t take away from our experience.
I have to say me experiences at The Ivy have been very varied (especially at the one in Cobham). However, this time was excellent, and my daughter had a lovely birthday dinner with me there. The waitress, whose name I missed was particularly attentive, friendly and excellent. She made it special.
The food was not value for money, and was only ok.
I have been to The Ivy hundreds of times before but the food this time was poo
Excellent lunch but very noisy and tables quite close to each other
I met a friend for lunch at a the Ivy in Guildford, it’s a lovely restaurant with a fab view of the castle. We were made to feel very welcome and the food was absolutely delicious, you couldn’t ask for anymore.
COVID-19 precautions were inadequate. The staff did not wear masks. No gel available on entry. No social distancing observed. Toilet arrangements unsatisfactory.
Really lovely evening, staff so friendly and food great. Temperature taken on arrival but not intrusive and hand sanitiser available by entrance and on the table.
Was concerned at the level of COVID protection shown . None of the staff wore masks and there was little observation of social distancing beyond the table separation
Fantastic service and food. The Ivy is a beautiful restaurant and the view of the castle is lovely. I had the set menu but my friend had the al le carte and both our three courses were outstanding.
The staff were attentive, polite and helpful.
On the negative, the drinks were really expensive which doubled the bill (even the non alcholic drinks).
Very enjoyable and relaxed couple of hours spent in pleasant surroundings. Service and food was as expected - very good.
Most enjoyable. Pleasant surroundings & excellent food.
Prefer this ivy that the one in Cobham, food was cooked slightly better but that’s me being very picky.
Very nice venue. Food was excellent though a little pricey for portion size. Slightly disappointed that they managed to muddle up our order on both the starters and main course. They rectified it swiftly but it was not overly impressive.
Always a lovely evening out, great ambiance. A great place for a special occasion.
Amazing as always
We had a gorgeous birthday lunch here. Lovely table on the balcony in the sunshine. Service was faultless. All staff so friendly and professional. Food was delicious as always.
Was ok. Service was slow but friendly. People used to dress up for the Ivy, but unfortunately no longer
We decided to book for breakfast and were not dissapointed as the service was so much better than our last visit, really positive, smiley staff and so attentive.
The food was really lovely and we shall be back for more!
Wonderful evening the Ivy. Reassuring processes in place to prevent the spread of Covid, including temperature checks on arrival and (gorgeous smelling) sanitiser on each table. Food and service were both excellent. We really enjoyed our cocktails, especially the orange martini!
Very enjoyable evening, lovely food services ce and ambience
The Ivy is a fantastic restaurant with beautiful well thought out decor, fantastic service and incredible food. It was pricey and I do believe some items particularly starters and cocktails were very over priced. I had the Surrey Passion and the Alexander cocktails and both were tiny! That being said, the experience was one to remember.
Perfect service, delightful food, wonderful ambience and tastefully covid safe.
Sadly we found the Covid precautions to be lacking. Our table was certainly not 2metres from the next and none of our serving staff wore PPE. Our temperatures were checked on entering and there was hand spray on the table but apart from that everything seemed like business before the pandemic. We do have another booking for Friday but this WILL be cancelled.
We had excellent service from start to finish
Staff are very pleasant although items arrived a little sporadically with things forgotten / brought late. Only one starter brought, wine forgotten, burger topping left out...
My starter of tempura prawns and salt and pepper squid was delicious. My partner’s burger and bun a little burnt and dry and came without the requested pancetta (quickly rectified).
Once the Italian waiter took over everything was served perfectly! Cocktails were delicious.
What a fantastic lunch and experience, great food, our waiter was excellent. A beautiful and very comfortable environment, just the right level of atmosphere, gorgeous cocktails and all dishes were great, no exceptions. We’re planning a return trip soon!
Staff friendly throughout, food was very enjoyable. I would definitely return.
