The Ivy Castle View
With an all-encompassing menu serving modern British and international Ivy-inspired classics from dawn until dusk, the restaurant is open seven days a week and is also featuring a private dining room, outdoor terrace and a bar, offering tranquil relaxed yet sophisticated dining with beautiful views across Guildford Castle.
Birthday dinner for my lovely wife. Really vibrant restaurant with great food and service. Will be back!
The waiter was really rude didn’t collaborate with asking a simple coffee with not too much milk “ macchiato”
Then everything arrived cold
Food was delicious and looked appetising and lived up to the look! Great table, attentive but not too much, service - sense of humour and read the situation when she came to the table!
First time at The Ivy, excellent evening. Great menu choices and good food, the staff are exceedingly friendly with great service. The ambience is really nice, helped by the glass front looking onto the castle. It’s not too noisy, the acoustics of the room are good. Will come back again.
Externally the restaurant looks like a converted multi storey car park. The food quality excellent and the cooking very good. Service poor with long gaps with no waiting staff around and many tables struggling to get attention. Probably bette to go to the main Ivy with the possibility of seeing a minor celebrity.
First experience was as we were hoping for and quality of the food didn’t disappoint. The table service was second to none even down to the smallest detail. Ambiance and location great ! We’ll be back ! **Note to only tip in cash if you want your waiter to receive it!!
We had a very nice time at The Ivy. We thought the menu was good with a few different things to choose from. I am not a vegetarian but i chose the vegetarian 'shepherds' pie which was very good indeed and a lighter choice for lunchtime. And my starter of crispy duck was amazing. Would definitely recommend The Ivy, particularly if you want to mark a special celebration.
This visit was so disappointing, brought a friend who had never been before for her birthday. Don’t think she’ll go again! Say in direct sunlight itcwaz boiling asked for air con on, but door was opened behind us and kept slamming shut. The young man on front desk cane and wedged it open, and seemed to have the attitude that it was such a tiresome chore! Ordered brunch, mine came without the toast it was supposed to have. Eventually fought a waiters ey abc asked for it. I had finished my meal still nothing, got up to find someone to ask again ....eventually it arrived. After we ordered coffee - mine was cold. By this time I couldn’t be bothered to complain. Service today was slow or none existent. Sadly not at all impressed.
The Ivy has got everything, just right. A dining out experience is not just about the food, but the ambience and decor also play a big part, and here you have it all in bucket loads. The waiting staff are a delight very easy to talk to making for a relaxed but very professional atmosphere. Front of house make you feel special when you arrive and it all seems to work like clockwork, however I am sure that a lot of hard work goes on behind the scenes. The food is always is always of a high standard which is why we love coming back
Excellent service from our waiter Tom
On the 9th September I took my daughter to The Ivy in Guildford to celebrate her birthday. We went to the cocktail bar and ordered some drinks. We were served by a young trainee bar person, it took a long time for her to mix the drinks and when she did she then had them checked. When my daughter was served her Tequila she had to ask for a lemon, there was no care and it lacked atmosphere. We were told all the cocktails came ready prepared, what ever that meant !!! I could mix better cocktails at home with a much better ambience and I have visited bar far better cocktail bars with better atmosphere and attention.
We ordered our food, my daughter had a steak with Truffle sauce, we had to ask for the sauce twice before it was given to us in the meantime the steak was getting cold. I had the Blackened Cod with broccoli and soy and sesame sauce, the sauce was so overpowering, I had to take the Cod off the banana leaf, and scrape the sauce off, in the meantime I tried to eat the broccoli and beans that we ordered, they were impossible to cut and chew, even my daughter could not cut them with here steak knife!!! We were told that this was al dente this was not al dente they were raw and lukewarm.
Our waiter Con was delightful and very attentive, but the serving staff were not good at all. When I pay the amount I paid I expect superb service no less. I was surprised that service was not discretionary, and as it was a birthday treat I did not want to make a fuss. I feel that the service charge I paid for was not deserved. These are the reasons I have given you a very poor review.
I expect a prompt reply with reasons why my visit this time was so poor. I have visited you a number of times and had excellent service and food. This was so very disappointing as it was a special celebratory occasion, it spoilt my daughter special evening and mine. SO DISAPPOINTING. Jill Jenkins
Was a bit worried as visited early on a Monday evening for my birthday and thought it might be quiet but pleasantly surprised. Excellent food and service and will definitely visit again.
Chose the restaurant for our vegan and vegetarian guests and were very pleased with dishes on offer. Great location and good food in a buzzing atmosphere even on a Monday night.
Thoroughly enjoyed our lunch. Would definitely book again
What I love about this place is the consistency. One bad experience is enough to turn me off a restaurant and too many are unable to maintain a standard with regard to service and quality of food. Not so here. Which is why I return.
Food was under cooked and pink, we didn’t any of it. Took over 1 hour to even order the food. We had to wait 10-15 minutes for our table to be set up. The fire alarm went off which was out of control but still ruined our experience. Baring in mind this meal was for my birthday it was very poor and ruined it.
We came for afternoon tea, the quality of the food was fantastic however I personally would prefer a more savoury selection, quiches etc a little too much sugar for me.
Waited for table offered bar having booked.
Food was awful. My special chicken salad consisted of tough chicken. A teaspoon of pear barley a couple of pieces of pomegranate and had to hunt for avocado... managed to find one small mushy piece. However there was plenty of enormous basil leaves and enormous mint leaves to hide the lack of salad beneath.
My husband minute steak was tasteless with a very thin watery sauce which you could not eat. Looked like dishwasher dirty water.
Will not be going back.
Great food, attentive staff, nice personal touches, and table with view of the castle. A very pleasant experience.
Never disappoints....! Another exceptionally enjoyable evening, food, service & atmosphere second to none. Highly recommend!
The food was incredible and the service was even better.
We have eaten here on several occasions and love the food and atmosphere. It did not disappoint. Had a lovely meal with great atmosphere. Only reason I did not give 5 star for everything was because our waiter was quite new and did not know the menu very well. No specials were explained, which usually they are and we had to ask for our wine to be poured, the bottle was away to the side, otherwise we would do it ourselves. We will be back as it is my 'go to' restaurant when I want a night out with my husband as we always relax, sit back and enjoy.
Absolutely love this restaurant, always my first choice in Guildford.
It was a friends birthday treat and it was as always superb. Best House champagne great food and excellent service .
Always enjoy visiting for lunch with friends. Delicious food, attentive service, light and airy with good views over Guildford.
Disappointing evening. Order of Olives never arrived despite asking twice. Tempura Prawns with Salt and Pepper Squid was over salted badly on some pieces and no salt on other, so every now and then got great mouthful of salt. Yellowfin Tuna starter was good. Main course of Blackened cod was good. Main course of starter Crispy Duck Salad, duck was hard and dry not crispy and dressing bland. Did not have dessert.
Lighting was very poor at our table so resorted to using torch from phone to read the menu! Pleasant staff but expect more from The Ivy. Not sure we would return.
Impeccable service, not pushy at all which is great. Excellent food. Nice sunset view on Guildford town. Definitely would come back.
Have eaten here a number of times and never disappoints. The food is always of a good standard to go with the service and general ambiance of the place. Fantastic views and great cocktails. A little on the pricey side but worth paying in my mind. Would highly recommend and will be frequenting often.
Great midweek lunch. We have spent the last year experiencing Michelin star restaurants at lunchtime, including Gordon Ramsey and Heston. They have all been enjoyable, however for overall experience The Ivy wins hands down . The food, service and atmosphere were great. It was glamorous and special without being pretentious, the food was delicious and the view was beautiful . I would highly recommend this restaurant, it is perfect for a special occasion or indulgent treat. My only observation, was that there weren’t many mid price range wines available, and the booze could get very expensive quickly!
We waited 40 minutes for our first course to arrive. The excuse was that "the waiter was waiting for you to finish your bread".
My wife chose Lemon Sole. It was tiny and severely overcooked. My fillet steak was, in fact, extremely good.
For wine we had Viognier. The first bottle the Maitre d' agreed should be changed; the second was not much better.
I asked for the service charge to be removed from the bill and this was done. I paid a much smaller amount in cash.
A very poor evening on what (the staff knew) was our wedding anniversary.
Great evening , food was presented and tasted amazing , faultless staff , very attentive . Great views over Guildford and the castle . Lovely atmosphere if a little noisy but that’s because lots of people were enjoying themselves . Wish I got our servers name as he was just fantastic and went that extra mile and brought us out little cakes with Happy Anniversary on them , he was very informative about the menu and drinks and made ordering our food much more easier. Great celebration for our anniversary and have since been for afternoon tea and we are planning to come again with friends .
Lovely to meet here with a group of friends, we sat in the window and looked out towards the castle grounds. Had the lovely Alice in wonderland afternoon tea. Beautifully presented and tasted delicious. Really relaxed and fun afternoon and didn’t feel rushed, smiling courteous staff.
I booked this for a lunch for four people, two of which had never been. We were extremely disappointed with the slow service. The most entertainment was counting how many times the lady at the desk touched up her hair! It was constant. The elderflower cocktail was not very nice, the chips over done and I have never seen a steak smothered in peppercorn sauce, it absolutely should have been in a pot on the side! Not everyone likes it swimming in it! Overall a very disappointed birthday guest!
Lovely place, amazing staff, good food. Would recommend to anybody
Great service, wasn’t rushed at all which is often the case with high turnover restaurants. Excellent service & great value set menu.
The waiter could learn to smile a bit more! the service was breakfast was far too quick and no back bacon!!
Good food with . delicious taste, good wine and fine views. The waiters were attentive without being intrusive. A very enjoyable evening. I would recommend.
Alice in wonderland afternoon tea was fabulous and such a good price! Loved it!
A beautiful birthday celebration on the sunny balcony, service was first class, cocktails delicious and food was superb
Generally love this place but the last 2 times I have been the service and food have not been to the same level as to when this first opened and felt quite special.
Had to send food back as it was cold and was still charged service on the bill, which we removed. Would expect somewhere like this would be more apologetic / provide something as goodwill for the mistake.
We had a lovely brunch recently. As always the food and service was excellent. Although busy (would recommend booking a table in advance), we weren’t rushed to finish our meal and it was relaxed experience.
