The Ivy Castle View
Amazing meal once again. Wonderful atmosphere, brilliant drinks and gorgeous food. Will definitely visit again.
It was my son’s birthday and he had a fabulous time.
Please do find out which waiter he had as we have had him before and he is really exceptional.
Fantastic as ever.
Setting and service incomparable in Guildford.
Very good vegetarian choice.
Excellent cream tea in lovely surroundings. Warm welcome on arrival and good service throughout. Possibly a little noisy but didn’t ruin the experience.
Took my mum here for afternoon tea for her bday, they went above and beyond to make it a special day! Can’t wait to return
We liked the Ivy and particularly the casual atmosphere and friendly approach by staff.
Food was excellent as we expected, portions surprisingly generous, possibly even too large!! I was expecting nibble sized nouvelle cuisine, but was pleasantly surprised by the hearty amounts, beautifully presented and served.
It is very noisy, hard to hold a conversation and in Europe there would be heated outside tables, but being Britain it’s obviously seen as winter and inside only.
All in all a great experience.
We have never been disappointed with the varied menu on offer and it's quality and, on this occasion, we were similarly pleased. Service was good, albeit that the drinks took a while to arrive (an apology was given to us) and we felt comfortable with the "space" between tables.
We would have felt more comfortable if everyone had to show a covid pass for entry to the restaurant, but this applies to all restaurants and is a Government decision - it just means we won't go as often as we otherwise would, which is a shame for us and less money spent in this sector.
Great service, great food and lovely surroundings! We will definitely be back
Our first visit to The Ivy - superb! the only criticism is that it was a bit noisy. But our table was a bit noisy too!
Food and service excellent
First time for us visiting the Guildford Ivy and it was a very good. Food and service as good as any other Ivy we have visited before. They have made the best of the modern building it is located in and has nice views towards the Castle. Only one very small gripe. We were there for a birthday celebration and for the first time ever they forgot to provide the guest with the small Ivy celebration pastry with coffees. :-(
Lovely ambience, busy but quietly buzzing. Fantastic service and great food.
A great meal at a great venue everything as good as always.
Afternoon tea little overpriced
Too much cake not enough savoury
we all had a good experience.
Parking was a problem.
Really enjoyed our meal with a great view of the castle and good service only slight disappointment was that despite adding to booking that it was for a birthday and waiter also asked if we were there for a special occasion it seemed like other guests around us were receiving a dessert with a candle and being wished a happy birthday we think ours was given to the table behind us but they accepted it so we couldn’t say anything would have just made it a bit more special
Beautiful food - excellent service - friendly staff - great value for money - lovely atmosphere - absolutely love the whole experience!
Great food, beautifully presented and efficiently served.
Poor experience and would not return. I was visiting Guildford for the day and booked the Ivy as I have always had a wonderful experience at any of the others I have been to. This one was too small with low ceilings - bad acoustics and was severely lacking the ambiance of any other Ivy brasseries or cafés I have been to. Perhaps because it is in a shopping centre. I was assured when I booked that there was always outdoor seating with heaters and cover but upon arrival, discovered this was not the case. No heaters, no cover and because of light rain, we were forced to sit inside, despite my friend being concerned about rising Covid figures and having an elderly parent.
We booked this dinner as a birthday surprise for our daughter's 22nd birthday, but she didn't have her ID with her and was therefore not allowed to order any alcoholic drinks, despite being with her parents. Fully understand that if in doubt they need to ID young people, but given that we were with her we didn't think it was fair, and it ruined our celebrations. Food was good but expensive.
We went to this venue having booked a table as an afternoon treat for my mum who had recently recovered from illness. I said to the receptionist on arrival that we will probably be having coffees and deserts and she freaked out saying that tables are only reserved for diners even though this was 4.30 close to 5 pm so in between a lunch and a dinner service and there were plenty of empty tables especially as we had pre-booked this table. I said we would order deserts and she reluctantly accepted. Once at the table the waiter expressed surprise again that we were having afternoon tea orders. He proceeded to bring the food before the drinks. The manager arrived and enquired with the waiter why we weren't ordering lunch menu food, this was done behind our backs but close enough to make us feel unwelcome. Overall my mum felt very uncomfortable, despite the beautiful and elegant decor, the staff's attitude lacked warmth and grace which we were expecting from such an establishment. This doesn't happen at venues from the Firmdale hotel restaurants in London for example which we frequently go to. Overall very disappointed and won't return.
I usually enjoy The Ivy but will not be booking for afternoon tea there again. We were so underwhelmed by the cakes. The sandwiches and scones were enjoyable but the cakes (if they could even be described as such) were very disappointing.
Went for champagne afternoon tea with a friend. My first visit.
All staff are lovely and charming. But the rest was disappointing. The venue is not as glamorous or exclusive as I thought The Ivy would be from the reputation it has. Tables are really close together, it was very noisy and it’s not a particularly glamorous room.
The food was OK but not great. Too few savouries. Scones were nice but the other sweets were not special. Very limited choice of teas. For afternoon tea, I would prefer a less crowded and noisy venue, in a more beautiful room, and with a better choice food and drinks.
Sorry. I am disappointed that I was so disappointed in the experience. I had a lovely time because of the company I was with but was hoping for a more special treat experience.
The restaurant was very busy when we went. I had booked and we had a nice table by the glass doors. There was a buzzing atmosphere and it looked like a large amount of staff.
However, service was unusually slow for our visit. We were seated just before 2.30 and didn't get food until 3.15. The waiter said that it was taking longer because we didn't have a starter and the restaurant allows 25 minutes from seating until the main course. I have never heard of this before. Surely if we did not eat a starter we should just have had a main course sooner.
It took ages to get a drink from ordering due to the different roles of staff at The Ivy. One orders and then a bar person makes the drink and someone else brings it to your table.
We decided against a pudding as couldn't face another long wait. Food was great though and we love this restaurant so perhaps just an exceptional busy day.
The service the food and the ambience were all excellent can’t wait to go back again
Food and service good. We sat by the window and as it was sunny, got rather hot! Nice lunch though.
The atmosphere and decor is very nice but you pay for that as feel it is overpriced. £4 for a small coffee! Staff were friendly in person but when we rang to change the booking we were not dealt with in a friendly way. It would be nice to be able to have eggs benedict etc without the chips on the menu.
Great food and atmosphere. Lots of choices too including to drink.
Absolutely wonderful brunch. Food was really good and the staff was really polite and really helpful. We went for my moms bday celebration and at the end they brought out a small cake with candle to celebrate it.
Always fab just don’t see the need for a DJ playing loud music there, Your normal piped music is good enough as everyone is chatting and not listening to the music anyway and its too loud if you are near to him and can’t hear your own conversations. A waste of The Ivy’s money having him if you ask me.
Good food ruined by noisy disco music all evening.
Lovely setting, with a wonderful happy atmosphere. Great service and probably the best steak tartar I have ever eaten. When we arrived we were seared and then told that our table would be needed by 8pm for the next booking. As our booking was for 6.45 this did not leave long enough and we left around 8.20. However we were not pressurised to finish. We will definitely come back.
Very cheerful and helpful waiters - quite busy so a little noisy - food very good but not exceptional - very pleasant experience
Second time coming to the ivy in Guildford for my partner and I’s 6yr anniversary. We specified when booking it was for an anniversary but nothing really came of it. Food was amazing, service was great too. Was a bit noisy and couldn’t really have conversations without constantly repeating what we said due to not hearing but it was a Saturday night anyways. All in all, great dinner, will be coming back again and again! :)
Food and service were great! A little bit pricy (94 pounds for a couple rounds of cocktails and apps) but worth it in my opinion.
Visited with my mum and sister for afternoon tea. We were seated in a lovely spot and served quickly. The afternoon tea was very good and the service was decent. No complaints
Amazing service - the best we’ve had in a long time!
The food was excellent and the only reservation is the fact on Saturday lunchtime there is only a Brunch Menu available so choices are a little more limited than the full menu.
The wine we chose was £48 and was rather disappointing as well as not being cold enough.
A superb evening the food, the ambience the waiters couldn’t do enough to accommodate our every wish. The atmosphere was electric. Definitely go back. Already booked. Thank you. Emily and Tim and friends
Always have a pleasant and enjoyable evening. Food was good overall. We did feel it was a tad quieter than usual. Also, the waitress was not very well informed which was disappointing as it is something we like about the Ivy. Knowledgeable staff. We asked a question about the menu and she immediately said she was new and didn't know the menu which isn't to be expected in this type of restaurant. I was also disappointed with the wine choice. We had the house rose and wanted another bottle but not the same as it had been okay but not great. I tried a few white wines but could not find one I liked and they are expensive. I think they could do with some slightly mid range / cheaper wines. The house is £23 and then others jump to over £30.00. Staff very accommodating and we will be back as this is one of our favourite restaurants.
Great service, food and drink for a special catch-up with good friends!
