Quiet crammed and small table and sat close to others. No privacy and felt unsafe sitting so close to others.

I come down from London to take the family to the Clifton Ivy from time to time. We always have a lovely family dinner, with delicious food and excellent service. Our waitress was so lovely and helpful. as were other members of staff to whom we spoke. The restaurant was very accommodating when I asked, if possible, for a round table. Request met! We all look forward to the next visit.

I have been to the ivy many times and loved it. We came for afternoon tea - 2 of my friends have a few allergies so we called a week in advance to discuss whether it was possible to cater. Confirmed they were and spoke with chef. On day the waiter came back and fore at least 5 times and was getting confused with the allergies. One could eat egg and dairy and gluten but was allergic to soya and other dairy. They were both told that everything was pre mixed so she couldn’t have the chicken as with Mayo and contained soya or salmon as was pre mixed. This is why we called before and we were assured it would be fine. They got a dry bit of gluten free bread with avacado and tomato - no oil or anything so was very dry. We arrived at 4 and didnt get the afternoon tea until 5.30, the tea that went with it didn’t come out until we had nearly finished the food despite me chasing. We had an apology and was deducted some of the bill. It was only afterwards I realised they took the optional service charge off as a discount and just £7 additional extra. Spending over £100 on afternoon tea and getting the food and service we received was very disappointing especially when I am always recommending the Ivy as a great place to go. Hence the low number of stars given on this occasion

we arrived for a special occasion and wanted a seating area with a view. However I was put next to a wall. I did ask if we could move somewhere else but was told no.
Later we asked again and was told yes we could move, when I pointed to an ideal seat we were told it was reserved yet it was not in use the entire next hour and a half.
However the waitress we had was very nice, food was excellent and the rest of the time here was good.

Food as always fantastic. We did sit next to a serving station where on two occasions while we were there glasses or crockery was dropped and broken on the floor. The surroundings of the old bank are very nice however the acoustics aren’t the best, can be quite noisy.
Will continue going back there as food is great, just wish the reintroduced the monk fish curry to the menu, instead of duck curry.

Staff attitude not normal Ivy standard, possibly as a result of COVID-19. Condescending attitude "if you don't like it, don't bother coming" when asked why Menu choice had been reduced. After shifty change about 5pm staff much more professional and Ivy standard

The service was incredibly slow. We had to wait for everything, to be served, to order, to get the food and drinks, and to pay. This prevented us from enjoying the experience as we should have and limited what we purchased. We were very disappointed.

Have not been there for two years and found it had deteriorated. Staff not as good and food /menu not as good. Frankly needs a revamp. Access to toilets poor, full of staff trying to get past and a strange fishy small throughout.

Not for Vegans - clearly not favoured by the chef! My vegan friends has hardly any choice and, given no expensive meat or fish, portions were very small and had to fill up on chips.
I had grilled halloumi on some grains, could have made it myself at home to be honest . Food was disappointment so not likely to return

Not quite up to normal standard. Service was slow and a bit careless. For example, brown toast arrived rather than white as ordered. Hot water to refresh my tea arrived after we had paid the bill. My husband's breakfast was missing mushrooms. Bacon was poor quality.
However it was buzzy and very busy and we enjoyed ourselves. I appreciate that not enough waiting staff were on duty to Service the number of guests. We will go back again but maybe not for breakfast at the weekend

I had a lovely family lunch celebrating our son’s arrival at university. We had great cocktails. The vodka passion fruit breeze was particularly good. I love the way the soup is served at the table to retain the crispness of the garnish and crotons. The burgers are fabulous especially with a side of zucchini fritters. The service was particularly attentive making the lunch really special.

i feel the restaurant has lost its je sais quoi

Massive use of floor space seemed to restrict the waiters , in my opinion, infact one set of meals hit the floor near to us

It did not have the feel of a special night ( our 49th anniversary) , perhaps the rather noisy boisterous atmosphere did not help.
I do expect the restaurant to be a mausoleum and there is a need for a buzz maybe the number of tables needs to be addressed.

We had afternoon tea yesterday. Overall we enjoyed ourselves but were disappointed in the tea experience. It was a hot day and after we made our order we waited 10 mins until having to request the jug of water we’d been promised. The teas themselves were all good. The food was mixed. Good smoked salmon sandwiches & brioche rolls. Awful soggy squashed cucumber sandwiches made in thick white bread. Left the second one.All wrong. Scones fine but would be better to offer a plain option too to suit all tastes. Tiny amount of cream for 4 scones. Red velvet cakes were star of the show. Macarons were tasteless & shortbread slightly soggy rather than crisp and crunchy.
Have had far better afternoon teas at The Painswick & Burleigh Court in Glos recently, both offer great savoury options.
This is my second visit to The Bristol Ivy, if I did go back it would most likely be just for cocktails.
Do not like being scrutinised as I walk into a venue plus whole ethos of schmoozing the big spending customers isn’t very Bristol. There’s way better tea & cake to be found elsewhere in the city. Visually strong & imaginative offering, afternoon tea wise but too many duds taste wise.

The whole experience was lovely and in keeping with the reputation of The Ivy.
