Waitress seemed annoyed when my husband requested to taste a wine. Pasta and lobster was bland. Blackened cod was very good.
On a positive the ambience is great. The seating is comfortable and the decor is fab.
However my food was very poor. I had chips which were overcooked and dry. My Prosecco was Luke warm. My Lobster Gratin was dreadful. Asparagus stringy and all stem. Very little lobster. Rubber egg and just a load of sauce to fill it out.
We have been to the Ivy in Manchester which was so much better
Had a wonderful time here at the Ivy ,my husband and self booked on line,
The staff were lovely, from taking our coats , to sitting down to lunch.
The food ( as always ) was fabulous and the service was great,
Our waitress looked ofter us and was very polite,
Food was hot ,and we didn't wait long inbetween course's
Plenty of room ( your not sat on one another ) and your not pushing or pulling your chair out to let people pass,
We would defenately recommend The Ivy in harrogate ,
And we shall be retuning soon are selfs,
The service was shocking. We had to repeatedly ask for our wine to be poured - which was in a bucket at the other side of the restaurant. We would have rather have it on our table and pour ourselves . If you’re going to offer that service, do it right!
Also my husband waited 20 mins for some more. Toast for his starter whilst I was sat finished my food. Food was delicious though
Just fabulous from entry to exit as always
Excellent in all areas - very nice Father’s Day treat on a great Saturday night.
The Ivy continues to impress. If I told you the ONLY fault today was that they NEARLY served our wine in the wrong wine glasses (the correct ones were half an inch taller than the ones they nearly used). Thank the Lord the waiter noticed before we had a complete disaster on our hands ;-)
Having enjoyed visit in February wanted to bring our daughters. Sadly on this occasion service was pleasant but slow and the food was quite bland. Disappointed on this occasion
The food was outstanding as usual,I have been to the Ivy Covent Garden many times over the years and would not eat anywhere else.
York Ivy was also excellent, all in all congratulations for keeping the high standard.
The food was very good, top notch. Only gripe I had was that we booked for 7:45pm, but was forgotten about and I received an email at 8:14pm saying we hadn’t turned up and what felt like a telling off, as if to say someone else could have had our reservation. Very annoying and very bad timing to receive such an email. We were sat down at the bar and told they’d come over when table was free but we received no acknowledgment at all. After 8:15pm I went over and asked and we were then sat down to eat.
The food was perfect. Fantastic food. Not a wide choice of beers to pick from and felt they were overpriced (£5.75 for a standard bottle).
Overall, the food was perfect but we could have been treat better considering the price of the whole experience (and that annoying email!)
Food quality was good but not excellent and somewhat overpriced, in particular the fixed 12.5% service charge!
Uninspiring menu. Very limited gluten free options, and a lack of understanding of GF / what on the menu was GF by staff. Noisy. Very limited wines by the glass. Expensive for what was a promising but ultimately slightly disappointing experience.
A lovely evening at this first class restaurant, we have been to the original Ivy and also one in Cobham it would seem the formula is working it was very busy and food, service and ambience were all great
I had to send my food back as it wasn’t cooked as I asked and by the time my food arrived my friend had already eaten.
It was her birthday so it kind of ruined it for us.
They did knock the item off the bill which was nice of them but didn’t change us bothbeatinng at different times
Me and my girlfriend visited the Ivy Harrogate for our anniversary dinner. This was the perfect way to celebrate. Cannot recommend enough.
Beautiful decor, comfortable and fashionable. Service excellent, wine by the glass expensive, food very nice, duck salad very tasty.
Thoroughly recommend for a treat, looking forward to a return trip.
Very pleasant evening! Friendly and welcoming staff, good decor and ambiance. The menu was varied and we had a very nice dinner. Would visit again.
For the first time the service let the Ivy down.
Started well but quickly went down hill.
Excellent afternoon tea for family group of nine. Had booked two tables, a six and a four. One person didn't show but the staff very kindly put table together to accomodate us. We were very well served with delicious teas.
The food and service was excellent. I took a friend for afternoon tea and it was all beautifully presented and the atmosphere was just fab. We will definately return to try the rest of the menu
We went to the ivy for our anniversary lunch, the food was absolutely amazing!!! The staff were lovely!! Thank you
the food was lovely although the 3 breakfasts containing poached eggs where slightly cold.I presume waiting to all come out together.
flavour and service lovely
It was our Golden Wedding and they didn’t allocate the table I requested on this special occasion.
Sadly, this was not my best experience at the Ivy. We ordered a bottle of Viognier, which was only slightly cool, not chilled. I asked the waitress to put it in an ice bucket & she asked did we not want ice-cubes in the wine instead??!! Er..no. We ordered 2 mojitos, which took 15 minutes to arrive, by which time the food had been brought. My wife’s cone of chunky chips was very dry and must have been cooked days before. We asked for them to be replaced - much better. My Monkfish & Prawn curry was literally starter size & contained no prawns... very definitely not vfm. By the time the wine had cooled we had eaten the mains and dessert after which the rather chippy E.European waitress asked ‘Is everything alright with your meals finally?’ Tut tut - some attitude adjustment needed. On the bright side the dessert was delish.
The Ivy has a high reputation but definitely fell well below our expectations this time. I don’t like leaving negative reviews, but this was our wedding anniversary, and our experience was distinctly underwhelming. If you purport to be the best, you have to live up to it.
Waitress inexperienced! Our main course brought before starter! Wine order wrong, but manager was wonderful and resolved problem immediately, thank you
Service, as always, was excellent. The brunch menu is a little limited, better to go in the evening if you want more choice. The food itself though was lovely
Great venue, lovely food and excellent service. Always a treat. Thank you.
Always a high standard and vey enjoyable. We will go again frequently
It is good food but very over priced. You can get good quality food in alot of places these days for a 3rd of the price. The drinks are seriously over priced! £10 for a G&T. We went for a special birthday but shouldnt have wasted the money. Also the specials werent offered to us and only realised they had specials when the table next to us were told about them.
Staff a bit too attentive, there were times when we were constantly interrupted.
The fake flowers at the entrance, make the place look cheap.
Very pleasant meal in congenial surroundings. Only criticism was that the tender stem broccoli was undercooked.
From being greeted to sitting down, to the service it was all spot on.
It was my friends birthday as well and she enjoyed the experience.
We asked to sit in table in window. We were told it was booked. No one arrived which was disappointing. We were put in a table which was tucked round a corner and felt forgotten and on our own whilst other diners moved to a more busy area.
Fantastic food and great service from all the staff. Good choice of food with excellent advice from knowledgeable staff made the evening meal fantastic
Food was mostly amazing. Steak ordered medium rare came well done but we didn't want to cause a scene so ate it. Expectation of steak preference in such an austere environment we thought would be pretty standard. Had to ask twice for desert menus and had to send coffee back as was stone cold. Coffee not deducted from bill as we would have hoped but when we asked there was no issue / quibble in deducting if from the payment. Atmosphere was a little stuffy / hot, but overall experience good. I guess that for such an expensive evening (and it was to celebrate our anniversary) we expected it to be perfect. So good but not top notch to match expectations.
it was a very nice afternoon great service good food and smart place, but it is expensive
Could not fault the staff - they made us feel very special. Afternoon tea was fabulous.
I have been many times to The Ivy in Harrogate but this time the service was not up to scratch. We waited a long time for the coffees to arrive and my husband’s meal was late ‘because the chef over cooked it and started again’ but there was no apology when the other plates were brought out- we had to ask someone where the plate was! We went for my father’s 80th birthday and despite telling them in advance, there was nothing special about the experience. When the bill arrived a ‘complementary celebration’ (no charge) was on the bill and I asked what this was. The waiter stared at me for a while before asking whose birthday it was and then brought out a little pastry with a happy birthday chocolate on it. I resent the automatic 12.5% tip added to the bill and I wished at the time I had asked for it to be removed. I just didn’t feel like the experience was the special start to the day that it should have been and would probably go to Bettys instead.
Daughters birthday, which The Ivy made really special for her
