I'm just sorry we had our little 2 year old with us who wouldn't keep still. Apologise!
It's a bit dear, but for a specail occasion it was lovely. Lovely room, airy, cool and pleasant. Delicious food and accomodating and friendly staff.
If it wasn't a special occasion you could have something more moderately priced ...
Lvely food but the portions are just too small so not great value for money.
The restaurant was lovely and the table set very nicely. The food was excellent and a special request for something not on the menu was accommodated for without any fuss, which was good. The Ivy house French champagne was really nice, very drinkable and not too bad cost wise (for champagne in a restaurant!) The service could have been better in that we asked for some honey which didn't arrive and I had to get up and go and ask for it again and even then it took longer than it should. I also had to get up and ask for sugar and milk, which I felt should have been brought as a matter of course with the teas and coffees! The main reason however that I haven't given The Ivy a five star rating is because of the service charge added into the final price on the bill, of an extortionate amount of £20.00 against a £161 bill. Personally I object to a service charge being put on anyway and strongly believe that any amount of gratuity should be at the discretion of the customer based on their experience and enjoyment, and service. The final bill amount in large numbers included the service charge, whereas the actual amount was in tiny print, and I stupidly didn't realise and took the amount in large print to be the amount to pay and then added a gratuity! So I ended up paying a £30.00 tip whereas what I actually wanted to pay was a £10 tip.
So my advice would be to go and have an enjoyable meal but beware that service charge on your bill and don't get caught out as I did.
I had previously had lunch here after a visit to Harrogate, it was lovely, but in the evening it was very noisy, the lighting was poor and we couldn’t read the very very small writing on the menu, I thought the service was poor given that we were at the Ivy, it just felt like a regular restaurant, not very attentive, rushed courses and generally not a high end feel, the bill was £250 for 4 of us so not cheap! The food was good but not amazing, the starter came in a tiny little bowl and my friend had the truffles as a desert and they literally came in a tiny clear glass bowl, not great presentation! I won’t return and wished I had gone to Ginos down the road which I have eaten at and is much better and cheaper, sorry but they are just not fitting the mark for their brand!
Upon arriving at the Ivy we were greeted by two men who were not very friendly. We told them that we had a reservation and they both looked at each other and discuss if a table was available without a friendly greeting to our group. We were swiftly taken to our table, and seated in a beautiful area, the decor was gorgeous. Our waitress was a friendly lady but we had difficultly understanding her accent. The service from ordering our food was fantastic, no long waiting periods. The food was divine and highly recommend!! Half way through our meal our wine was slowly been drank and the waitress/waiters didn’t come to top up, which meant we had to leave our seats during the meal to fill up. Understandably the restaurant was busy but would recommend in times like this the customers should keep their own wine to top up as required. The waiting times and food were outstanding but work needed on the customer service of the staff and amendments needed during busy periods.
Food and service was very good, the staff were all welcoming, efficient and helpful. The restaurant decor was attractive and the background music was excellent. It was pretty busy being a Saturday evening and some of the tables were quite raucous but this didn't detract from the wonderful time we were having. We will be returning, hopefully in the not too distant future.
I thought the restaurant and the ambience lovely, it was buzzy without being overly loud The food was good, desserts better than the main courses, in our opinion and the cocktails were fabulous. I would definitely go again.
Had some friends to visit and took them to the Ivy, we had a great time, the food was lovely. One of my friends wasn't quite happy with her fish, but our waiter Tony looked after this straight away and had it replaced. Service was very good and Tony was very professional but good fun at the same time. Would highly recommend.
Was there for a birthday celebration - our daughter was running late due to traffic the Ivy was very accommodating and managed to rearrange a table for later that afternoon even thought they were very busy. Service was excellent as was all our courses - definitely recommend. Thank you - not forgetting a little birthday cake surprise 😊
Lovely bright restaurant with friendly staff and fantastic food!
On opening, the Ivy was great. Fab attention to detail etc. I’ve been a few times in recent months and I feel the quality is not as good. Avocado was pretty much brown and poached eggs overdone. We weren’t asked either how our food was.
Food and service was lovely until after main course then we were abandoned. Didn't get offer of coffee and drinks etc. Disappointed that although I had said it was for a 70th birthday celebration there was no candle etc even though the original waiter recognised that it was my husband's birthday. All in all rather disappointing.
Really enjoyed ourselves, however I am never keen to recommend anywhere because we all have different tastes and expectations.
Went for lunch & had lovely mussels off the set menu. Sadly 7/8 of them didn’t open so couldn’t be eaten. Suggested to waiter they should change their supplier (or they should have been removed before serving). Husband enjoyed his fish & chips.
Puddings were soo delicious with us competing with whose was the best. I had tropical sorbet with white chocolate sauce that had coconut through it & he had apple tart with hot calvados poured over.
Would go again, but will not have mussels unless The Ivy can improve on the quality of mussels
Amazing food and really lovely, friendly Staff. They were very accommodating and gave a lovely birthday treat to my boyfriend. Food was outstanding and wait times for food was fine too. Not long and the whole evening was perfect. Looking forward to our next visit.
We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch at The Ivy, this was our first visit and we were very impressed. The food was excellent and the service was very good....very pleasant staff.
We were not offered the lunch menu of set courses, however we ordered two starters each and couldn’t fault them...delicious. The glasses of wine were a bit expensive but I’m guessing that it’s a corporate charge.
We are looking forward to visiting angain and next time we go we will ask to sit under the magnificent dome.
Lovely main course shepherds Pie! Except unable to order my favourite dessert tart Tatin due to power cut, so disappointed!
Wedding Anniversary, was amazing!
our only disappointment was that 2 of our party of 6's serviettes were dirty, as was 1 person's fork.
otherwise, all perfect. a special thank you for my birthday chocolates ( as we were celebrating my birthday , and i am gluten free)
Super venue..and well appointed with staff who were attentive although this lead to some confusion over who was bringing toast for my meal, but overall very nice atmosphere and very good quality food. I don't mind paying for good quality and this was good quality. Nice touch with the anniversary chocolates as it was a breakfast Wedding Anniversary treat. we also have a birthday for my son to celebrate on the same day so that has had an effect on our day so coming here was a real treat. super well done.
We went for a special occasion and the Ivy ticks all the boxes but everytime we eat there we feel sick - I think the food is just too rich for us - there appears to be truffle oil in everything which is very sickly - but overall it is a fab place
Delicious breakfast, excellent service, lovely ambience
Lovely server and reallynice food. Wasn’t as much choice as there is at other Ivy locations we have been too. But still really nice. The decor wasn’t quite as nice as the others but the service was fab. There was a bit of a wait for mains as it was a busy Saturday evening so that is to be expected and we were given a side on the house for the wait which wasn’t necessary at all but a really nice touch. We were happy to wait and drink our drinks. Thanks for a lovely evening.
We had a disaster at the ivy on this occasion. Firstly there was a problem with the lighting, it was blaring like daylight at 9pm at night. We asked the staff to turn it down but they could not work the system. The maître d’ very kindly moved us undercover outside next to a roaring fire which was much nicer. I ordered the sole but when it came it was not cooked properly, and was mushy and tasteless. We sent it back and the chef sent me out fish goujons instead which were worse than frozen instead of crisp and light. The wait staff were so accommodating and handled every situation gracefully it was just very unfortunate that the food was not up to the usual standards. My partner had ordered the goujons as they were the days special so he was also very disappointed. I would return to give it another go as the setting is wonderful and the staff are attentive. Fingers crossed for a fixed lighting system and vastly improved food next time.
Excellent evening .
Staff were welcoming and food was superb 10/10
Nice atmosphere, nice food waiter was a bit pushy, trying to up sell a bit and a bit challenging re my wife not drinking, I know he was trying to be fun but just would have liked it as per previous service which was as expected; extremely professional and not pushy
Still water instead of sparkling arrived and sirloin came out medium instead of rare.
Nice starter and excellent desserts saved the day.
My wife enjoyed her food but it wasn’t exceptional enough to rush back.
Very nice restaurant with more ambiance than other Ivy Brasseries. Brilliant food
The menu is now getting a bit boring. It requires freshening up with a few more inspiring dishes. The spinach side dish is dry and un appetising.
It was quite pleasant but the prices have gone up since the last time I went. Also, the way the waiter asks if you would like still or sparkling water as soon as you sit down makes it seem like it’s complimentary, it certainly isn’t at £3.50 a bottle! We found that misleading and our waitress agreed with us but said they had to do that, which makes me think that they know exactly what they are doing!
I would recommend to a friend however the service and food was not quite what I had expected. The food was just okay.
Amazingly quality! Clean environment and calm ambience.
Amazing restaurant, beautifully decorated! Warm welcome and seated at a corner table as requested. Polite, efficient waiter who adviced us about cocktails and certain foods. Food was amazing, we chose the set menu. Well presented and extremely tasty! A wonderful experience for my husbands birthday...thank you The Ivy.
The Ivy afternoon tea is very decent. It is biased towards the cakes and sweet items. This certainly suited some of our group though personally I would have liked more savoury items. Perhaps not the cucumber sandwich in GREEN bread - not very appetising.
Our waitress was lovely, happy to top up the teas and coffees and was around when we needed to move the cake stands round the table.
A very acceptable way to spend a couple of hours - will probably do it again.
not what i expected. the menu is very basic,i had lemon sole goujons and chips, they were tasteless and dry may as well have just visited any bog standard cafe.
Having visited other Ivy restaurants this meal was hugely disappointing. We decided to bring a client here and it was very under whelming. For a restaurant of this standard i would have thought they would be able to cook two rare steaks - however they could not seem to get this right. The first issues was these were cooked well done and one of the sauces was not right, these were taken away whilst the chips went cold. The steaks were re done whilst the client ate her dinner and appeared 15 minutes later with no sauce, the waitress then offered fresh chips as ours were cold, by the time the chips and sauce was bought to the table the steaks had gone cold. Very disappointing and will not be visiting again.
The restaurant was lovely but I found the waitress quite off. I felt she was a bit too abrupt and slightly patronising towards us. It was not really how I expected service at the Ivy to be. Hopefully she was just having an off day
The food was good. Service was good. The drinks are very expensive
