The Ivy in the Lanes
The staff are outstanding, so polite & helpful- I don’t think I’ve ever had better service. The decor is absolutely beautiful, and the wonderful high ceilings make it a really comfortable place to relax in. Last but not least, the food was delicious and really well presented. Prices might be a little higher than other restaurants in the area but the experience is so much better overall that it’s well worth it.
Feedback to our waiter was that in my BlackBerry sundae dessert some of the blackberries were still frozen
Also the ladies toilets were in need of a tidy as the baskets were full hand towels and the area looked unkempt
Walking in they said they our table was not ready, we where 15 minutes early, so we sat on the bar to have a drink. They forgot us so we had to chase them for a table. When we got one they forgot the special requests that I had as it was my partner's birthday. Very noisy and hectic. Massively overpriced. The food was nice but very small portions for the price. The only good thing about that restaurant was the waitress that we had as she was very polite and attending. I would not recommend that restaurant at all.
When visiting friends for the weekend, I managed to get a table for 8:15pm on a Saturday night which I was so excited about. We arrived and were greeted well and seated, the decor is stunning, the staff are attentive, we had our meal which was lovely etc. then as soon as our plates had been cleared - we were asked to clear the table as they had someone else waiting!! We had honestly been seated 45 minutes! The booking itself tells you you have 2 hours. So that was disappointing and came across quite rude when others around us had been there longer - we said we had plans and wouldnt be much longer but bargained and were told he would give us a round of drinks on the house. So we took our seats at the bar.. for him to turn around and say he didn’t offer that, he said we could sit at the bar and have a drink as were leaving anyway!! It got sorted in the end but after 10 minutes at the bar, the restaurant started to clear and we were approached by another member of staff asking if we were wanting to eat and wanted to be seated!! It’s something different and I would probably return but that has tainted the experience somewhat.
The ivy is gorgeous but it was my husbands birthday treat and we were put on a table in a row with others and unfortunately the table next to us were very loud and shouting, which ruined it for us. We couldn’t wait to eat our main course and move ourselves to the bar area.
We felt the tables were a bit crammed together which made it feel like you were eating with others. I would of preferred a separate table to ourselves. The food was lovely along with the service and interior is stunning it’s just a shame it was ruined by others.
The Ivy in the Lanes is our favourite restaurant in Brighton. The decor, atmosphere, service and attention to detail are second to none and the food is first class with plenty to choose from. Can’t wait until the next visit!
Exemplary service from start to finish. Great ambiance, food better than anticipated and service first class. Hugely enjoyable experience and would highly recommend
Fabulous meal. Sooooo tasty especially the olives. Omg you have to have them if you like them.
Had an Ivy burger with cheese. Superb.
If you fancy a cocktail go for the candy floss fizz!!!
Service was impeccable and nothing was too much.
Came on Saturday afternoon for a family lunch. We had a lovely time and the service and food was great!
Best Ivy we have been to. Thoroughly recommend and the DJ was an awesome extra!
Lovely decor. Good, honest food. Drinks a bit pricey but I guess similar to other quality eateries. Booking form asks if it’s a special occasion (ours was a birthday) but no acknowledgement of it once there.
Perfect birthday brunch for a catch up with a good friend.
Excellent service, great surroundings. Fabulous food. Thank you!!
The service was very good - attentive, knowledgeable and professional. The food was good although not the best I've had. The initial plates were lovely (arancini and zucchini fritti), the duck foie gras was nice if a little too large (nice problem to have), the pancakes were good but not outstanding. All in all we enjoyed our brunch.
The food was good, the service was ok because a waitress was very rude with me, but overall was good
Appalling slow service and lack of feedback from staff. Without even asking a substantial amount was taken off final bill. A nice gesture but more communication to apologise or keep us updated would have helped.
At first it seems a great place friendly staff but it’s just too noisy to comfortably chat. The music is too loud.
The food is over priced too- I mean a starter that says prawn and squid tempura - and only 1 prawn !
Dependable venue but let down by the fact non diners can just go to the bar and drink.
Nice venue. Service and food is good.Object to the 12.5% discretionary service charge.Hopefully the IVY and giving this to the staff. Service staff are obvisiously pushed to sell the Still bottled water at £3.95 a bottle! Need to be quick and ask for tap water.
Nice food, god service. Tables too close together and overall very noisy.
Lovely food in a stunning room. Prices high and there are restaurants nearby with same high quality food for lower price. Assume prices are for the lovely artwork and decor? 12 5% service charge is high but our waitress was excellent
We had a lovely afternoon tea but the service was poor. I had to go to the bar the get more drinks and when our table was finally cleared only the cake stands and plates were taken. Our cold tea etc was left. We even had to find a member if staff to even ask for our bill.
We had a fantastic lunch not rushed at all . Great service by waiter Michele very attentive but not overly. Food was fantastic cant wait to go back.
Beautifully furnished surroundings.Comfortable and relaxing , staff attentive and welcoming.
Would definately recomend as a special treat venue.
My second visit to the Ivy - both times with friends. Really attractive venue, warm and inviting with lots to look at and a pleasant ambience. We went for the lunch sitting and there was a great choice of food on offer with a specials and standard menu. Food was tasty and well presented- my only negative was the service. Initially we were approached with the menu’s before we’d even got our coats off, then on realising his haste our waiter left us to settle and didn’t return for a further 20 minutes. Without drinks or order taken. Finally on getting his attention our food was ordered and arrived promptly - minus the side order of fries. Again prompted the waiter who said they were “on their way,” but by the time the fries arrived we were half way through the main meal. No whiff of an apology for this and 10% service charge applied !
Poor service and overpriced. I was brought the wrong dish, which was then. Taken away. This left my wife to eat alone. By the time my real dish turned up she had finished and I then left in my own.
No apologies no excuse.
Will never go again
Birthday meal for two
An amazing restaurant, you.mudt go to appreciate the truly amazing surroundings
This is my first visit, although I have enjoyed the Ivy in Chelsea many times.
Go, it's worth you visiting!
Wonderful decor and ambience with cool central bar.
Food delicious, although starter on the small side, with a lack of crab, the main element!
Service attentive and a problem with cold air pumping out from a radiator behind us was quickly resolved.
Only downside was tables being too close together. This meant a lack of privacy, and you knock other diners if you need to go to the bathroom/ get in and out.
Lovely touch with a mini birthday cake and candle.
The whole 'Ivy' experience was amazing. We were treated exceptionally well by very friendly staff. The food itself was amazing. Fabulous evening for a special occasion. Thank you
A lovely lunch. A special time with our daughter. I would recommend to others.
It was a little cold. But when we mentioned this to the waitress she turned the air conditioning off.
So much better.
What can I say THE IVY never disappoints.A very warm welcome superb table, our waiter was delightful attentive and could not do enough to help. The food was fabulous we had a lovely lunch the ivy just has it all always a pleasure to be there. The Christmas decorations are beautiful.See you soon😀
Food and atmosphere was very good. Service from waiter was very brusque and not hugely attentive. Ordered fishcakes with poached egg. Poached egg was undercooked which I did feed back to waiter but told him I was happy to just eat the fishcake. At the end of the meal I repeated the feedback about the egg and asked that he let the kitchen staff know. He was again very sharp and said "-I'd told him too late"... No offer was made to remove service charge from the bill nor apologise. Shame as spoiled a birthday supper.
Afternoon tea at the Ivy was a lovely experience. Good value. Welcoming staff. Just the right about of noise.
Yes it was good. The service excellent but the chips came a tad cool. But generally very good.
The food was very good. The service was amazing as always and the whole atmosphere was very relaxing and inviting. Would recommend!
This experience was a gift for my aunt and her friend and they both had a wonderful time. They said that the staff were very attentive and that the afternoon tea was wonderful. They said that the restaurant was very full and that that was why the noise level was high.
What a lovely meal. Absolutely love the ivy in Brighton.
Will be back again soon
First visit excellent. Second visit very average. Food was OK but the noise level from the DJ (seriously you need a DJ for Sunday Lunch?) spoilt the experience. The staff are terrific but the Ivy needs to lifts its game to retain a loyal customer base.
The surroundings at The Ivy are lovely and it's the perfect venue for brunch or a casual lunch with family or friends. Having said that, the music is always too loud and the service slow. We waited nearly an hour between starter and mains this time but it was Sunday lunch and we were in no hurry so that didn't matter too much. My main gripe is that they never change the menu; we went out for Sunday lunch but there was no roast on the menu and they are not changing the menu any way to cater for Christmas next month. This is disappointing as the menu itself is limited and liable to get boring quickly.
