The Ivy in the Lanes
We have visited here a few times now. Never been disappointed. If there were to be anything we would say a little expensive + on this occasion service around us was not so slick with a table taking a long time to be cleared. Overall a great experience
Really lovely restaurant for a date night! Love the decor and the ladies toilets (wow!) quite pricey but highly recommend.
The Ivy is a hidden home of luxury in Brighton. The professionalism and attentiveness of the staff was noted as soon as we arrived. The menu had so much choice and we were made to feel very comfortable. Drinking & dining the hours away was a perfect experience. Thank you.
Excellent venue serving first class food at reasonable prices
Food portion prawn cocktail had 5 prawns and my fillet stake smallest I’ve ever had in a top restaurant
You charge over the top which I don’t mind but I do expect a fair size this was the case for all my guests and the other day the same when I took my wife
I will be telling friends and family to avoid you and won’t be returning my bill was £550 for 5 and your penny pinching on the sizes so you’ll loose in the long term
Really great food and service, but the restaurant itself was unbearably hot. It actually made me feel sick sitting in there - many people were sat fanning themselves and it wasn’t even a hot day. It made it difficult to sit and enjoy being there despite the lovely food.
The ambience and interior were fabulous. The portions were much to big and I lect feeling bloated and couldn't fit in a dessert. Food was of a good standard but not incredible.
The interior is absolutely stunning and it's worth a visit .
This was my second visit and it was just as amazing as the first time it was my friends 65th birthday and the team made it everything I could ask for many thanks
Very good menu for vegetarians and excellent service which was fast and helpful
Always pleasant staff and service, so much better than the Ivy in Covent Garden. Love the attention to detail, the teaspoon placed on the saucer exactly how it should be. Breakfast was good I had my old school friend from Derbyshire with me and she loved it too. Thank you.
This has got to be the best place I've being to in a long time everything about it was 5 star .
Absolutely LOVED my dining experience, the Salmon & Aspargus main was divine followed by an impressive flambe apple tart! Beautiful decor and attentive staff. The overall room temperature was a little higher than I would have preferred but had a lovely time.
We had a very nice meal in The Ivy on Sunday but we could not have a conversation as the noise level was extremely loud. There was a DJ playing tracks. Other customers were talking loudly, almost shouting to be heard above the noise. We did ask to move tables as the speaker was just above us. At one point the manager asked the DJ to turn the volume down but then it was increased again. The very lovely and accommodating staff did eventually manage to move us to another table which was a bit quieter.
We visited for afternoon tea with elderly parents with us. The restaurant was busy but on top of the general chit chat noise, there was a dj in one corner playing loud music which was not pleasant at all and detracted from the atmosphere. Its such a shame that the atmosphere was spoilt by this and it made the place feel much cheaper and less special than it should have done.
We enjoyed our lunch overall. Nice ambiance and decor. Ladies loo nice banquette becoming shabby and unkempt. Staff really friendly. Very strange menu choices with quite a few choices I would expect to see at breakfast not lunch, no fish knife with the lemon sole. Food quality ok not fabulous. No menu for children.
Great buzz for a family meal celebrating son home from Oz and hubby birthday
Food was nice but couldn’t get lobster that we wanted
Chicken milanese needs to come with pasta
Lobster gratin was lacking in the lobster but otherwise tasty
Ivy gin cocktails and expresso martinis were fab as was pink fizz from Hampshire
Incredibly bad service - genuinely appalling. Have written a email to of feedback and has gone unanswered.
Juste perfect ! Everybody IS so nice ans thé meal tasted wonderful
I hate to leave a bad review but I was surprised about the lack of care of my food intolerance from both the waiter and the chef who said all I could have was meat or fish with no sauce. I have to say, I don’t think they believed me and the response felt like they thought as much. I’m used to my food intolerances having a reaction but I didn’t expect the Ivy to be so resilient. My steak then came cold and very dry and my husbands food was mediocre to say the least. The room was too noisy as we had a large group next to us, which I suppose can’t be helped. The drink at the bar was wonderful. Just a shame about the service and the food. Not really worth the money and there are far better places to get good food.
Excellent meal and service
Nice food, not worth the hype. Had a voucher so meal was effectively free, would have been very disappointed if i'd paid for it.
Superb food and a perfect meal in every way. Very efficient friendly staff who made the whole experience a very special one for us. Will recommend to anyone for a special occasion and will be returning to sample more delights from the menu
Beautiful interiors, lovely dinner settings and great service
Excellent service great food an overall wonderful experience
Generally very good, but expensive given that much of the food is prepared offsite.
It’s my third visit to the restaurant and the other two occasions were much nicer. We were squeezed into the back room and the tables were really close together, so we spent our time having to listen to the two ladies conversation on the table next to us. The seating wasn’t comfortable either. The food was just OK. Shame as we were celebrating our 65th birthdays.
Very pleasant visit to the Ivy. Good food and service etc. However, when I booked I stated it was for a birthday and would have thought if you are asking this at booking then you would offer something complimentary.. a drink or dessert as I have heard of happening for others before, so slightly disappointed by this small attention to detail.
For a special occasion or just a treat you can’t go wrong here.. the service is professional yet personal, the food scrumptious, the cocktails to die for and overall ambience just like walking through a time portal to the Art Deco era. We will be back !
Lovely place and great 1st experience to the Ivy. Would definitely recommend and be returning.
This was a busy, but large restaurant with many covers. The menu choices were broad, and there is some food theatre to enjoy depending on what you order. A few touches could have been improved, for example overly soft shoestring fries, and although having a live DJ in the restaurant makes the mood somewhat interesting, it was so loud that it was obtrusive, and prevented a conversation. The food was nice generally. Overpriced.
Lovely food, well worth a visit for a treat. Unfortunately it was service that let it down for us. We were left at the bar for half an hour as our table wasn’t ready which is understandable, it happens, but the waiter that came over said “oh sorry ladies I forgot you were there”.
Our waitress was lovely but she was clearly being micromanaged and was actually fine just as she was!! Dining room is also very loud when packed, acoustics could do with some work!!
Overall good experience and we would go back, just an honest review.
Food excellent; wine terrible.
I am a wine drinker not a wine expert but suppose those who choose for the wine list are. The £27 bottle of Spanish wine was thin (though 14%) and coarse and should not have found its way onto the wine list of this otherwise excellent venue.
Should have read the reviews first. Set my expectations at the Fine dinning standard that Brighton has to offer elsewhere and as it was our anniversary, some opportunity of quiet romance.
It is big noisy and bustling nothing wrong just not what I was expecting.
Fine dinning? No! It is good food and reasonably priced but not fine dinning. Think more Cote than 64 degrees or Saltrooms.
The whole experience was wonderful. The food was outstanding and ambience lovely.
We came here to celebrate a Birthday. The staff were very attentive and friendly. The food was cooked fresh to order so we had to wait a while for our food. The drinks were rather expensive almost £10 per glass. Nothing was too much trouble for our French waitress Marie. The restaurant bought out a mini cheesecake with a chocolate plaque that said ‘Happy Birthday’ On it which was a lovely touch. We didn’t feel rushed to eat and leave in fact we were the last ones to leave! Thank you The Ivy for a memorable Birthday for my friend
Food good esp the Chocolate Bomb, very good service and friendly staff. Cocktails were very good as well.
Very noisy and extremely close to other tables. Apart from that lovely meal and reasonably priced.
Fabulous lunch, our table was ready for us when we arrived, the service was great the whole way through our visit & the food & drinks were spot on. I would recommend lunch at The Ivy.
I have been to the Ivy in the Lanes several times now and the food is consistently good. The item I chose on the menu had been changed so I chose the Blackened Cod which was excellent. Service this last time was a little slow but we didn't mind (old friends with lots to catch up on) and the decor is as fresh and inspirational as ever. It was a Friday lunch and very busy.
This is perfectly pleasant, although being tucked in a corner at the back wasn't exactly worth the huge prices. As a vegetarian with coeliac disease (gluten free) there were NO main options. Literally none. It was suggested I get a few starter salads instead. There was also no allergen menu. To be honest, in 2019 that's no longer acceptable - to have zero options for people with allergies, Intolerances and debilitating autoimmune diseases. Frankly, as good as the service was and as pleasant as the venue - and as much as the other members of the group enjoyed it - none of us would go back for that reason.
