Great food and friendly staff
enjoy the original ivy - excellent waiter service
Always an enjoyable place for dinner.
Always amazing food and service is second to none. Made our sons 21st birthday celebrations complete. Thank you so much!
This was a special occasion trip - our anniversary - so we were excited to have an excuse to try out The Ivy, known to be a classic and exceptional British dining experience.
Food: starters - the cheddar soufflé was good and probably the best dish of the meal. The burrata starter was at best mediocre - the burrata itself did not taste fresh, more like the last one at the back of the fridge. The olive tapenade was flavourless. We had to ask for a bread basket, we thought the Ivy would bring it to the table (without needing to be prompted) as par for the course. Mains - the risotto was cold, mean-portioned and did not come with a spoon, we had to ask for one which meant the food got colder. We also had to ask for Parmesan when, again, Parmesan offered at the table with your risotto is standard in your average restaurant. The gnocchi was better but again not hot enough, the tomatoes in the sauce did not taste fresh. Dessert - we ordered a knickerbocker glory and a sticky toffee pudding. While the former was fine the latter was cold, dry and lacking in sauce. The ice cream was barely a dessert spoon’s worth and it was half-melted when we received it. Sticky Toffee Pudding is a classic British dessert and we assumed it would be a standout at a restaurant that is considered a classic British institution.
Overall the service was mediocre - there was no apology for the terrible sticky toffee pudding when it was sent back. In stead we were asked “you want another one?” casually as if this may be normal.
The ambience was fine as I guess people still view this place as a place to be seen - there are better restaurants with better service, food and ambience (including in the genre of Art Deco jazzesque atmosphere) all across London.
Does not live up to the hype. Not for the discerning patron.
Lovely as always!
Great food there! especially the desserts. Would recommend the frozen berries and white chocolate sauce.
The girl on Covent Garden reception had the best smile ever!
As good as ever!
Nice food and drinks. Sadly tables are crammed together and staff are not particularly attentive
Wonderful food, fabulous service, thank you to Daniel who looked after us so well, great wine knowledge and I definitely recommend the chalk and cheese cocktail!
Perhaps turning a bit Ivy chain rather than the exclusive venue it used to be. Food was good though.
The original Ivy is still the best, lovely people, great experience as always
Beautiful food and top service
A wonderful meal, superlative service.
Excellent food… Dover sole was divine, the Chalk & Cheese cocktail interesting, different but lush !!
Staff and food superb. Highly recomnend. Very attentive
I’d tried many times previously to get a table at the Ivy and very pleased I finally managed it.
Starting with the beautiful bar with an excellent barman who found me the perfect cocktail and then we were seated and the service from start to finish was divine.
I had the crab and my friend the soufflé starter both were amazing and then I had the lobster … which was very generous in size and my friend had a fillet steak perfectly cooked. The cauliflower gratin was the best I’ve ever tasted and we finished with a pear and frangipan tart and the mini cheesecakes.
I’m so sorry I didn’t find out the name of the lovely lady who looked after us but she kept our bolly topped up perfectly.
Lovely ambience will definitely be back
Fish overcooked. For that price it was a pity!
Amazing service by all staff. The food was amazing the best cheese soufflé & the shepherds pie was gorgeous. Will definitely visit again
Granddaughters birthday, her first time and ivy not the last .
Wonderful place and food, great service and staff too!
Never been to The Ivy before, but I’d always wanted to go. Managed to book a late lunch. The service was excellent, very attentive. The place has a lovely feel to it.
I ordered the fish and chips with minted peas and broad beans (as I don’t like mushy peas). The batter was a bit too thick, so it wasn’t as crisp as I would have liked. But I still enjoyed it
The dessert was gorgeous, warm chocolate fondant with hazelnut icecream - one of the best things I’ve eaten in a long time.
An institution for a reason.
Great food abs ambience, busy but not noisy, great service.
Awesome service. Tha is to the team for looking after us so we’ll.
Service was good and nice decor. Under the current circumstances it was rather crowded tables were on top of each other. So much so we had to endure the conversation from the next table. The food was disappointing frozen chips and steak was full of gristle. Sorry but no way worth the money.
Wonderful staff. Amazing atmosphere. Food out of this worls
An amazing lunch. Warm welcome, lovely cocktails at the bar, impeccable service, nice wines and amazing food. I have never tasted food like this and it was an explosion on the palette. Such beautiful food. Thank you all.
Thoroughly enjoyed our visit to The Ivy. This was our first visit, we were particularly impressed with the ambience and with the service provided. The menu was varied and appealed to everyone in the party.
The best place to eat in London if you want a relaxed but sophisticated atmosphere with top draw service and good quality sensible food
Food and service was exceptional
We were confused with which Covent Garden Ivy was the correct one, as we first went to the Ivy market grill. When we reached this tucked away lavish Ivy, loved the minute we stepped through the door. The doorman was very nice and the front desk ladies showed every courtesy and showed us our table. We ordered some red wine, sirloin steak (perfectly marinated) and Thai baked sea bass… what a wonderful evening. Definitely recommend for any of your special occasions.
It was all delicious. However, a bit naughty of the waiter not suggesting a jug of tap water with our meal, rather only suggesting still or sparkling. He was quick to open the bottle and pour it before we could ask. Other than that, a superb experience.
Always a pleasure to visit the original. The Ivy has a wonderful menu, wine list and superb service. We had a great, early dinner. The burrata and the veal Holstein was marvellous. I normally despise green beans but can't get enough of The Ivy's green beans with shallots and chilli. Don't be put off if there is only Counter seating available. I prefer it myself, and love that there is often same day availability which means on those days when you just don't want to cook, you can pop in after work, have a gorgeous dining experience and wander home sated.
We had heard many many times that if you go to London the ivy is one of the places to eat, don’t get me wrong it is excellent but not as good as had been hyped upto to be. The service is second to none but the ambience feels very old fashioned and the food was very good just not out of this world!
Sat at the counter. Friendly, helpful bartenders. Meal was delicious. Highlight was the crispy duck & watermelon salad!
Food was great - sometimes the service was a little slow and inattentive.
Had the perfect evening bar one glitch (see later). We were shown to an excellent table, had a great waiter and did not feel at all rushed. Excellent pre-dinner drinks (martinis and non-alcoholic cocktail) and useful option of 375ml carafes of wine (my partner doesn't drink alcohol. The glitch was that I asked for my ribeye steam to be cooked medium-rare and a little on the rare side if possible. In the event the steak came cooked medium and, although tasted fine was not what I had ordered. If it had been cooked to order it would have ranked as superb. My complaint was listened to (it was easy to demonstrate the problem!) and the restaurant subtracted the cost of the steak from the final bill. If only all restaurants would behave similarly. WE will definitely go again when in London!
It was super busy but food was very good and tasty. Table service and manager was very good and helpful. Really enjoyed my meal and experience. Was very busy but this didn’t affect the service or food.
