The Ivy Montpellier Brasserie, Cheltenham
Located in the stunning grade I listed Montpellier Rotunda building, the restaurant serves breakfast, elevenses, lunch, weekend brunch, afternoon tea and dinner and features a private dining room and a bar, offering relaxed yet sophisticated dining in the popular town in Gloucestershire.
Highly professional, knowledgeable service, yet friendly and unhurried. Almost colonial (in a good way), spacious dining environment. Excellent menu and additional specials. Not the cheapest experience but in line with cost expectations for three courses, wine and pre-dinner drinks at £155 for two including optional service at 12.5%, the latter gladly given.
Good reasonably priced food. Service was good and unfussy.
This was our first visit to the Ivy in Cheltenham. Our anniversary [26th] was very much enjoyed by the
pleasant staff and the superb food and we could not fault either the food or staff. 5 stars from us.
Lunch was first class with exception of the prawn cocktail. The top half of the prawn cocktail was excellent, the bottom half was somewhat of a mess.
The remainder of the lunch was excellent and well prepared. The service was exceptional.
Went to The Ivy for our first time on Tuesday night mainly to hear the Jazz group. Sat right next to the Band who played a set appropriate to the venue and at a volume where you could hold a conversation. Food was OK if nothing special. Waiter very friendly and attentive. Overall an enjoyable evening.
We visited The Ivy for my Grandmother’s birthday as a special occasion. We had heard brilliant reviews and decided this would be somewhere ideal for her and to celebrate. The ambience was beautiful with a relaxing and calm atmosphere; there was live music the night we went and it was pleasant to hear from the adjoining dining rooms. The food outstanding and the quality could not be argued.
However, it was fairly busy for a Tuesday evening and this was mentioned by staff. Maybe because of this, service was a little slow with a forty minute wait for our starters and then another forty minutes for our main. It was suggested on the confirmation email when booking that sittings for under four people would only be for two hours, yet we were there for almost three and therefore could not adhere to that suggestion.
Despite this, the staff were friendly and welcoming with food and drink suggestions. I would definitely recommend The Ivy to friends and family, as well as visiting again. Thank you very much for making a special occasion even more so.
Tables too close together . We had to go and ask to be served an alcoholic drink after waiting ages . Food delicious but the shepherds pie was woefully small and we had to quickly order more chips as our guest was starving .. at least advise customers it’s small would u like a side order . Didn’t realise jazz was on and we were practically sitting on their Laps as our table next to theirs . Just tooo many people I think . Considering the money just too many disappointing things ? Pudding littie touches were fun ..
good selection of interesting food, excellent service and great surroundings .
Wine was a bit expensive if you wanted more than just the hse type wine.
Music was very good
Hence we are back in 2 weeks with 2 guests
Wonderful service and lovely atmosphere. Staff are very attentive without being intrusive and the food is lovely. Highly recommended.
Enjoyable experience of visiting The Ivy and look forward to returning in the near future.
Excellent food and great service made for a very pleasant lunch
place almost empty yet they forgot our order and brought fishcake rather than fish and chips as ordered. Also the burger was very dry.HOWEVER they made up for it by agreeing and without being asked not charging for the 2 main courses.
We only went for afternoon tea. The food was good and interesting and the service was outstanding but it was a Sunday and the place was not at all busy.
It would be nice to go again for a full meal on a Friday/Saturday night to get a better impression of the place.
Excellent service and great atmosphere. Live music which I thought would be too much, but very good.
Lovely evening to celebrate my birthday with friends.
Food generally was very good, only exception being the broccoli that was raw, side did get taken off the bill after I reminded the waiter that he hadn't been by to check the food was ok.
Duck pate, cod and chocolate bomb all very nice.
Will definitely be back.
Very good restaurant. Food is excellent and the service great. A very enjoyable evening.
Loved the Ivy...... service was really attentive without being intrusive. The food was really nice and priced well.
The drinks were expensive is the only negative.
Had a lovely time and will definitely return in the future.
Didnt like the shouting at the bar at 5pm when i was having my meal sounded like a night club , disappointed that nothing was said by the bar man or restaurant manager , really lowed the tone of such a beautiful place made it feel cheap and unspecial , other than that enjoyed it as was a treat for my sister
Beautiful room and excellent service. Really enjoyed the afternoon tea and stayed for cocktails after. A lovely birthday treat.
We went for my daughter's pre wedding lunch with my friends. One guest had to leave early and had her main course when our starters came. No problem. They also gave my daughter a congratulations little cake afterwards which was very thoughtful. All meals were good.
Absolutely outstanding would highly recommend to friends and family
We had an excellent meal here at The Ivy Cheltenham. A little on the pricey side, but that is expected due to the restaurant name! The food was well cooked, good portions and the restaurant is very well staffed.
The ambiance is great and tables well set out. There are a few (backs to the bar) which are a little too close to each other, but luckily we weren't sat there.
Ask for a table along the wall - more room.
Lovely surroundings and friendly attentive staff. Food was delicious. Will eat here again
We had the most delicious lunch off the 2/3 course menu . Properly trained staff who did not refer 3 ladies as " hi guys " which I find rude . The service was really good and the bill perfect and the tip included which was well deserved . Thank you very much we shall come again . also as a side note , my sister who is pretty deaf found the noise level much better than any other restaurant , and we have tried a few. !! Thank you very much . Olivia Henriques
An amazing place with lovely people and fabulous food - I'd recommend breakfast here any day of the week!!!!!
a menu to suit a wide variety of preferences and the food presentation was excellent, Service was perfect and not at all overwhelming. Will definitely visit again and again!
The food was very good though there were a couple of small issues. Firstly I had the lamb and while it was cooked to my liking it did not come with any gravy/sauce. And secondly I asked for some mint sauce and had to remind the waiter and still waited some time for it to be delivered.
We really enjoyed our afternoon tea at The Ivy. Sandwiches and cakes/desserts were fresh nd delicious. All in all a memorable afternoon. We I’ll be back. Thank you.
Extremely efficient and kind staff, food excellent. Overall a first class dining experience.
Celebratory breakfast for my husband's birthday. Food well cooked and presented quickly. Attentive but not over fussy staff. Beautiful room in a prime location in Cheltenham. A thoroughly enjoyable meal which got our day off to a wonderful start. Will definitely recommend and return.
Just perfect. Great night out for us both. Great food, varied menu and super surroundings.
Such a special restaurant with excellent service and fabulous food , perfect for my daughters 18th Birthday celebrations .
A beautiful restaurant. Bearded Sean was a really first-class waiter, and we were made to feel very welcome; he served us with great attention, and nothing was too much trouble. Unfortunately, he had gone off duty before we left, so we were unable to thank him in person. Food was good, well-prepared and attractive. The only thing that we did not like was the piped music; something classical would fit better in such a historic building, although we would prefer to have no piped music at all. It was a most enjoyable occasion and I appreciated the birthday cake that made it extra-special for my sister's birthday. Thank you.
We celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary here recently, we loved everything about it and wouldn’t hesitate to visit again. The food was amazing and service was excellent. Only slightly negative point was that the live music, whilst lovely, was a little too loud when you are trying to hold conversations
Food was incredible, very fast service and there was live jazz music playing so the ambience was excellent. Had a wonderful night.
Great ambience and friendly staff. Good food but didn’t find anything jumped out on menu to order. Think choices could be better.
Very disappointed with the afternoon tea. No replenishing of the little amount that was served. Service lovely as was establishment but extremely disappointed as it was a birthday celebration
Waiting staff were brilliant. Food was just average and a bit overpriced for what it was.
One member of our party was violently ill during the night at home so for this reason I would not recommend.
Super-glamorous restaurant with fantastic service and lovely food. A unique experience to dine in such an architecturally spectacular setting – a Regency rotunda with a domed roof. One tiny quibble from a fussy eater – it would be helpful to have a dietary key on the menu (GF/DF for gluten/dairy free etc) so as not to have to keep asking the waiter about ingredients. Nevertheless a thoroughly enjoyable evening out.
The Ivy is always good. The only reason I didn’t give the food 5* this time is because the burger was nothing special and there’s not all that many non-fish options on the menu. But next time I go, I’ll pick something else instead.
But the initial response by 3girls in red dresses at the entrance was not particularly welcoming l don’t think they smiled once. They were not helpful. On leaving 2 girls were stood around in reception area, they did not say goodbye, hope you enjoyed your time or thank you for coming, nothing! I am surprised as I have been to the Ivy in Leeds and York and not experienced this. My family and friends will continue to enjoy the Ivy but probably not return or go to the Cheltenham restaurant.
