The Ivy Montpellier Brasserie, Cheltenham
Located in the stunning grade I listed Montpellier Rotunda building, the restaurant serves breakfast, elevenses, lunch, weekend brunch, afternoon tea and dinner and features a private dining room and a bar, offering relaxed yet sophisticated dining in the popular town in Gloucestershire.
Having tried most of the Ivy's now, we know what to expect, we arrived Saturday night for our 21:30pm dinner and although our table wasn't ready we were directed to the bar, the room and ambiance is amazing and a really amazing venue to eat in. we sat at the bar for 15 minutes, no acknowledgement from any bar staff- there were four on! In the end I had to say 'excuse me' to be served. When we were able to go to our table we are used to other Ivys putting our drinks on a tray and taking them to the table for us, not this Ivy we took our own! We had a lovely table but the service throughout the night so so so slow, there seemed to be lots of complaints from other tables we noticed, we were in no rush so took it in our stride, the final straw was when the Private dining event from the other room (About 10 teenagers) left their room and decided to use the bar, the noise was horrendous and then they moved themselves to an empty dining table to carry on their celebrations, they were all so so drunk so that was a joy!
I asked the waitress to move them on but said her hands were tied as they were private dining- not so private. Basically all a bit chaotic and haphazard and brand damaging! Dont get me wrong the staff tried their best but clearly older more experienced staff would be better at this venue?!
A reunion of friends
We sat in a lovely snug corner and enjoyed a superb meal with excellent service and great recommendations from our waitress. Amazing selection of food and drink for every appetite - attention to detail in presentation surpassed he price we paid!
A beautiful restaurant. Would like to try the dome area at night perhaps as seemed quite noisy, though a fantastic atmosphere. Can’t wait to return next time in Cheltenham.
Made to feel like royalty as soon as we walked through the door. Fantastic cocktails and the food was absolutely amazing.
Great service, simple food done well
Great food and superb waiter service. A good variety of choices and all at a high standard. Only slight downfall is there is limited choice of wines by the glass. Can't wait to have an excuse to go back.
The Beef tartare and Tuna were good and delicious. The black cod was the most special and yummy one. The chicken steak tasted nothing special.
Simply excellent every time great all round from reception to departure
An enjoyable experience dented only by what most classy restaurant chains seem to suffer from - the inescapable sense of being in an upmarket McDonalds i.e. fast food and fast staff. I can see how that works from a company point of view, but the prices imply diners can expect a degree of personal service and having to find our own table followed by having to ask for menus doesn't fit with that. Nothing wrong with the service itself. First class - once we got it!
It is a nice place to eat and both food and service were good despite the waitress throwing the soup over my husband. However value for money is poor and I would not be tempted to go back.
Lovely breakfast & lovely attentive staff! Would definitely visit again.
We really enjoyed going to the Ivy on Valentines Night. It would have been nice if they had set up with a Valentines theme for this night.
Nice setting, great service and ambiance and fantastic food. Would definitely come again.
Enjoyed a beautiful Valentines meal here with my partner. It was the first we’d visited The Ivy after many reccomendations and couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Not only just as the food beautifully cooked and presented, the service was impeccable, even on such a busy night. The atmosphere was buzzing and the venue absolutely stunning. I cactually couldn’t fault our time here, it was the perfect way to spend our evening and we look forward to returning soon.
The quality of food, service and wine selection is as good as ever and we had a wonderful Valentines Night Dinner. We were well looked after and had the full three courses and coffee to finish. Each dish was a huge success and an excellent selection. The Tempura Prawns and Squid were fabulous followed by the Fish Pie special, washed down with an excellent Gavi Di Gavi - marvellous stuff!!
Beautiful building great service and a nice buzz. Always a go to
Excellent (as usual!)...
Zucchini Fritti disappointing - basically a bowl full of batter bits.
The ambience was excellent although to enter and see a tee shirted person was NOT what I would call smart casual.
We must keep up our standards.
Overall a great experience.
Nice decor but overall disappointed felt a bit rushed/processed as if I was being treated as a service user, the food was only average .
I was very disappointed as on my booking I requested a birthday candle in the dessert for my friend who’s Birthday we were celebrating. This did not happen and when I asked why not the waitress was not forthcoming.
The service was very slow and the waiter brought us the wrong order.
I have dined with you several times and sung your praises to my friends, who weren’t as impressed as I had hoped.
Really lovely place to eat. Food was amazing. Haven’t eaten anything so lovely as that for a long long time. Beautifully presented. Impeccable service. Well done
Lovely, a real treat, delicious food, friendly service and very good value!
Great place for a light lunch. Plenty going on and good atmosphere. My only gripe is whilst I’m always very happy to leave a tip , and I always do, I do object to having 12.5% added automatically, albeit discretionary.
Went for the "new" live jazz Sunday Brunch. Musician was on a "break". When he came back, saxophone only. Not jazz I expected. Only background music & no singing. Brunch menu was OK but not outstanding. Food quality OK. Service excellent. Very attentive staff.
We went to the Ivy for brunch as they had live jazz playing. Due to the nature of the building with the high ceiling noise tends to echo so the music was a bit loud. Also the musicians stopped within an hour for lunch so depending on what time you arrived you may not of heard them play! Despite this we had a lovely time service was excellent and we enjoyed our meal.
Good food, good ambience, attentive service, excellent value...
Lovely restaurant, but felt rushed by the waiters. Noise levels were high, as tables too close together.
Fantastic restaurant, beautiful surroundings and very attentive service. Food was delicious and very well priced for such wonderful surroundings and location.
We had a table from 6pm and was asked to leave just before 9pm
I think it would have been better had we known beforehand that the table was reserved as we would have vacated sooner rather than ordering more wine around that time and then having to sit/stand at the bar which was busy with waiters rushing by you.
Had a lovely meal! My husband asked for his curry to be a little hotter which was done to perfection! They catered well for my gluten free diet! Overall a lovely meal and beautiful decore.
Busy Saturday lunchtime. Good service. We hsven’t been for a while. Food was good but didn’t think the lunchtime menu was particularly exciting
Superb food the atmosphere was fantastic overall experience was fantastic
We had a lovely evening. Service was great. Will definitely be going back
Overall the food and service were excellent. Disappointed that I was overcharged, sadly U didnt notice this until I got home.. check your bills thoroughly
The food was fantastic and the place is beautifully decorated. We just had a bit of an issue with the service. It took a fair while for anyone to come and take our food order. The food then arrived pretty quickly but was brought to our area by a waitress who then stood with her back to us, our food on her tray and didn't serve it to us, ignoring us completely for 10 minutes! A Manager walked passed and asked someone to put the food on the tray who said "no" quite audibly in front of us. It was explained at the end of the meal that this person in questions was not "trained" to take food off of the tray and put it onto the table... how ridiculous! Eventually, after 10 minutes of watching our food grow steadily colder on the tray of the waitress stood about a metre from our table, someone came and handed over the food - the "hot dishes" were then lukewarm at best. We mentioned this to the person who came to ask if everything was okay and he offered to redo the food but we were all so hungry that we didn't want to wait again.
On the plus side, the afternoon tea that 2 of our group had was fantastic and very tasty. They just need to train everyone to lift food off of a tray and put it on the table as it seems bizarre that not all waiting staff are able to do this.
Great Menu (something for all palettes) offered in lovely surroundings supported by friendly staff.
Excellent service - friendly but efficient. Food was lovely and very good value fir money. Beautiful surroundings -quiet but buzzing. Staff willing to go the extra mile for customers. My guest and I will definitely return to the Ivy soon.
We have on open sandwich which was beautiful. It arrived quickly and was nicely presented. The staff were very attentive. Would go back again and have the same sandwich again.
The Ivy in Montpellier, Cheltenham is one of my very favourite restaurants. The food is always great, the service is second to none ambience is wonderful I can not recommend the experience enough!
Ivy brassieres throughout the country are excellent. The ambiance of the Cheltenham Ivy is at the top of the list. Irate iron a par with the one at Tower Bridge London
