The Ivy Montpellier Brasserie, Cheltenham
Located in the stunning grade I listed Montpellier Rotunda building, the restaurant serves breakfast, elevenses, lunch, weekend brunch, afternoon tea and dinner and features a private dining room and a bar, offering relaxed yet sophisticated dining in the popular town in Gloucestershire.
We arrived early, we were not allowed to sit at the bar because my daughter was under 16, there was nowhere else to sit and wait for our table and the staff on the entrance were quite happy to have us wait on the street....appalling attitude to customers. Once at our table everything was fine, particularly the live music which was excellent.
Had a wonderful meal celebrating my husband’s birthday. Food was delicious, suited all our differences of likes and dislikes.
English breakfast and my wife toast was on the cold side. Drinks order was forgotten.
Flavours were excellent and food well cooked, could have been a little warmer. Portions were on the small side.
Lovely experience with great service- would visit again
We were disappointed with our visit this time.
We were seated in the main open area. Whilst it is beautiful it was very cold. We were also seated right next to the main thoroughfare to the kitchen. This felt busy and noisy with staff rushing to and fro beside us. It made our experience feel rushed and we left within one hour.
In hind sight we should have asked to be seated elsewhere.
It has put us off visiting again.
Having dined at the Ivy in Bath & Brighton I was very disappointed to say the least. On arrival I found the hoist at front of house very miserable and never made eye contact, asking me if I was sure I had made a reservation ! . I found the waiter rude and condescending. Having the desert menu practically thrown at my friend, was the final straw for me. No desserts just got the bill paid and left. Very disappointed.
The overall experience was quite good but I was not over impressed with the food. I was also not impressed with the information on the menu particularly regarding the wines, none of which seemed to be priced. I am unlikely to visit your restaurant again unless I win on the lottery or I am invited at someone else's expense. Perhaps I will have to revisit JD's where despite its shortcomings gives you good value for money.
We very much enjoyed the food and would have given it 5 stars throughout! However, they were very busy and we felt rushed and in the end asked to leave the table only a few mins after we paid the bill. It is not cheap and to be honest it did slightly ruin the evening. Such a shame as the restaurant is beautiful and food excellent.
I had booked in advance for 5 people, but when we were shown to our table it had only been laid for 4!
The music was very loud and I felt it should have been a different genre other than pop (in keeping with the décor and ambiance)- staff turned up the music at one point and were laughing behind the bar about it.
The food was lovely apart from the cut sandwiches which were very dry - I have had a better cream tea in the Bath Ivy to be honest.
Service was OK, but I could see the waiter had a physical disability and had difficulty lifting and removing some of the heavy plates, so needed help, so that drinks did get tipped over at the table.
Too loud as too close a proximity to other tables. My friend had a hearing aid and really could not have a conversation, for both of us the toasted muffins under each of our dishes were absolutely rock hard and inedible - overall disappointing sadly as it was her birthday ‘treat’.
Beautiful setting, great food and superb service - really lovely Saturday lunch for my mother's birthday.
Very nice evening and service . Good good value and reasonably priced wines
Fabulous! Best Iberico pork I’ve had. Staff all very professional and efficient. Great cocktails
Yet another very pleasant lunch here. The food and service are always excellent. We enjoyed the extra treat for my husband's birthday!
Very enjoyable lunch. Nice Menu, excellent service and a real treat for all of us
Pleasant evening. Enjoyed the jazz. Good food . sz
Booked for our anniversary. So obviously important that the venue worked. It did, the venue is relaxing, atmospheric and comfortable. I was delighted by the whole experience - so thank you. The care we received couldn't be bettered. The staff are excellent, attentive without being overbearing. The food was good quality, well presented and very tasty. Not cheap, but well worth the money. I cannot recommend this venue highly enough.
One of the most spectacular places we have ever eaten in. The food was perfect and the service wonderful - charming, attentive and very personable. Overall, a memorable experience rather than simply a meal out.
Selection and presentation of afternoon tea items were excellent. But service was very poor and very disappointing. A great shame as the building and decor are stunning!
This was my 4th time dining here always such an amazing experience as always, fantastic service and food and beautiful surroundings. Thank you for giving my friend a lovely time for her 40th Birthday.
Unfortunately the roast chicken dish was inedible in parts as it was hard and dry. The beef burger was also dry and pretty tasteless. Service was good and surroundings are excellent.
The food was exquisite, the service was outstanding. Everyone seem pleasant and happy, real joy to dine at.
I can't think of a better way to spend a Sunday afternoon, good food, good service and smooth jazz. Fantastic.
Was disappointed as a hair was found in mashed potato and although the item was replaced the party felt disappointed that they were not apologetic or offered anything as it was unhygienic so we left a lot of our main courses
Lovely as all ways beautiful place and great staff and food is fantastic.
Excellent as always... make sure you look up when in the main restaurant to experience the beauty of the building
Lots of tables in a small space, and our table was hit with a blast of cold air every time the front door was opened. The constant flow of people either side of our table made me feel a little on show, although other tables would have less of this I expect.
Food was excellent, perfectly cooked and well presented. First 2 courses arrived very quickly, main course perhaps a little too quickly. Desert was perfectly timed, didnt feel rushed at all.
Service was impeccable, attentive but not intrusive, polite but not overly familiar.
A different table might of changed my overall view, but it wouldn't stop me going back.
Just like dining ought to be with perfect service and surroundings, unfortunately spoilt by too many yahoos/hen parties and their noise. Suggest you put the prices up by 25%. That should get rid of some of the common crowd who think it's Zizzis.
Great service, much better than other Ivy restaurants I’ve been to.
Good for lunch and brunch . Setting is lovely , service is very good .
Great evening with family Staff were really attentive but not in the way. Anticipated and accommodated needs of elderly clients. Food cooked well, such an enjoyable evening, thankyou
We had a fabulous evening, we have visited many times, and are never disappointed, it was the first time for our friends and they were impressed. The service, the food, the ambience all came together to make it feel a real treat.
An amazing place and the early dinner/lunch is fantastic value but you must remember the service charge and extras push that up though.
Yes, but we were sat next to particularly disruptive guests on the next table. We did our best to not pay attention, however their arguments and disgraceful attitude towards each other was hard to avoid
I went with friends for afternoon tea. The interior is beautiful and we were seated in the Rotunda which was a bonus. I enjoyed the sweet selection but found the savouries a little bland. Overall it is a unique venue for a get together or special occasion.
When I brought my husband for his birthday afternoon tea in July he was given a surprise birthday treat. This did not happen for my birthday treat this week.
While we enjoyed the food presented, the tea was weak and we needed more tea bags. What we didn’t know was that we were being charged for most of the refills we asked for.
Having had several afternoon teas at the Ivy before this was a complete surprise and a disappointment.
It also didn’t seem like we had everything we’d had previously, maybe less sandwiches and cakes, although I’m not totally sure.
An great birthday meal made enjoyable by the very attentive waiting staff.
A first visit and birthday lunch for a friend. She loved it and will be back with her husband
