The Ivy Norwich Brasserie
The brasserie is accessible and relaxed, holding back a number of tables for walk-ins, allowing locals to drop in throughout the day at their leisure. Whether visiting for a relaxing breakfast, working lunch, cocktails with friends or a three-course dinner, The Ivy Norwich Brasserie
Beautiful surroundings, lovely delicious breakfast, although disappointed that certain breakfast staples had run out, hence not full marks, but would certainly go back for a special occasion!
A relaxing experience. Food was exceptional and staff were very knowledgeable and make us feel special.
The Ivy has I think been open about a year, in the building where GAP used to be on London Street. The building has been strikingly decorated and furnished, and looks stunning. The staff are well turned out. The tables are not too close together. There is a long wine list with a high proportion of expensive wines on it - about half the reds are priced at over £50. All this seems very promising, but to us, the menu does not have the same level of ambition. There are some interesting starters, and a few restaurant dessert standards, but the main course meat offerings seemed mostly to be slightly uprated pub food - steaks, burger, shepherd’s pie, fish and chips, chicken salad, albeit with the addition of a good number of fish/seafood items. There’s nothing wrong with the main courses - I had the shepherd’s pie - but there was nothing special about them either, and as the bill for four of us was £320, we felt that they did not match expectation or the price level. The service was a little slow, too.
This is the third time I’ve been to this restaurant and I keep hoping it’s going to get better. It hasn’t unfortunately. This visit included a 30 minute wait for drinks, lukewarm table water, incorrect food orders and just generally poor service. After this experience, I don’t think I will be returning.
Service is attentive and friendly. We had Sunday lunch - busy and noisy. But I also have had several breakfasts which are not busy at all (at least at 08:00 which is when the place opens on Weekdays). Value - well it is the Ivy. Food - well deeply conventional but that is the basis of the Ivy. I do think prawns should have their vein removed - but maybe I am old fashioned in this regard.
The noise...grr... the bane of modern restaurants. Why designers insists on all these hard surfaces is a mystery. Everyone bawls at everyone and we all go home with sore throats and a feeling that we have been herding deaf goats or communicating in the engine room of a Type 21 Frigate. Romantic it ain't. Lord knows how the staff manage - I assume they wear earplugs.
I was really disappointed we spent £97 on a meal for 2 starts were ok but no butter was offer with the bread and pate, the mains were really basic and the truffle chips came late my boyfriend had nearly finished his meal and we shared a creame brûlée. We hade a table at 10pm and it felt like the staff couldn’t be bothered. The drinks order was messed up to. I only had two alcoholic drinks my boyfriend drunk water. I will not be going again, it just felt like a basic chain restaurant. Bennidicks or Rodger Hackman’s or Wolfand Social are much better Norwich restaurants. That was my valentines meal ruined. :(
Love this place.... daughters birthday so came here for a meal. Service was spot on although wrong food brought out. Waiter was apologetic and it was out right straight away. Highly recommend.
Beautiful building. Friendly efficient staff and a good menu to choose from.
Wonderful bar area if you just fancy a drink.
I booked table in the middle of December specifically for this date near Valentines. On arrival I was asked for my name 3 times while the young girl looked puzzled at a screen before saying your table is not ready yet and there’s only one space at the bar. We arrived 5 minutes early. I had to ask if she would take our coats which she did. Sat at the bar for half an hour until we asked if our table was ready yet? Taken to table and then it took an hour to order and receive food. We didn’t eat until 9.30pm for an 8pm booking. Then we had trouble getting our coats back as we were not given a ticket when they were taken.
I can understand having to wait at busy times but the restaurant had clearly overbooked and we were treated as a hindrance I will not be returning
Very good food staff very attentive and very helpful just one gripe no draught larger or cider
I was looking forward to visiting the Ivy and wasn’t disappointed, I had smoked salmon and rye bread for starters and monkfish and prawn keralaen curry with jasmine rice for main which was so tasty, no room for dessert. Cocktail was Candyfloss fizz delicious. Beautiful surroundings, nicely laid tables and staff that looked happy to be there, will I be going again most definitely.
I’ve dined in many restaurants and was expecting a lot more than what I got for the reputation. I couldn’t fault the staff they where superb, I can can the food was above average but no where near what I was expecting. The real let down was when I received my bill, so over priced for what I got in return. This actually bought the whole evening crashing down for me, I was happy up till this point but have to say I won’t be returning. The price point is so far off what your getting, I should imagine once the buzz of the place gets past the initial buzz they will start to find it difficult to get people through the door and will find the cut backs coming very quickly. If they do I probably find myself returning and paying what I should of done the first time shame.
What an absolutely stunning family meal, the food was sublime, service attentive and considered and the decor was to die for. I couldn’t recommend the Ivy Norwich enough if you’re looking for a wonderful location to eat. Bravo!
Already have recommended to friends.
It was a wonderful evening.
Very attentive service without being in your face. Tasty food at reasonable prices. Would definitely eat here again
Wonderful food! So delicious and fresh. Service was fantastic couldn’t fault it and loved the music and feel of the place.
We went to the Ivy Norwich for our 11th Anniversary, It was our first time at this restaurant, we were greeted as soon as we arrived, shown to our table, we loved the atmosphere and ambience of the place, our lovely Italian waitress was so friendly, we had a nice chat, the food was absolutely delicious, our waitress brought a little cake with a candle for our Anniversary, how lovely!
We throughly enjoyed ourselves, it was a wonderful experience, thank you Ivy Norwich for a lovely afternoon! Will definitely be back!
Excellant service from the front of house, bar service , meal and waiting service.
Thank you THE IVY Norwich
The atmosphere, ambiance and decor is great, as in all "Ivy" locations. However as a result of the high ceilings, when the restaurant is full there is an echo effect, which can be often distracting.
We will return.
Excellent service and even better food! Will be back next week
Wonderful food, staff, service and decor! Thank you!
My girlfriend and i had an awesome meal here, very funky, very friendly non pretentious atmosphere will definately go again and recomend to others.
Thank you for making the evening so special for me and my lobster
Valentine date with my hubby and thoroughly enjoyed the food. Chocolate bombe was on point!
The service was exceptional and we weren’t at all rushed.
The only disappointing thing was we were put upstairs. We’d visited the restaurant on week 2 of them opening and sat downstairs which was lovely. I didn’t even realise there was an upstairs otherwise I would have requested to be downstairs where the bar is and where I feel there is more atmosphere.
Service was absolutely fantastic! I can’t wait to dine at the Ivy again.
Lovely decor, excellent food! The chandeliers are a triumph!
We booked for my birthday treat and we weren’t disappointed
We had a lovely meal I had scallops followed by steak tartare (splendid!) and my partner had crispy duck and linguine.
The wine was expensive but delicious and perfectly chilled. The staff and service were really polite and especially the sommelier was very informed and friendly.
The whole experience was wonderful and we will definitely be back!
Yes the toilets are up the stairs... but really?
Second time we’ve been, couldn’t resist the Kerelan curry (again) however the prawns were slightly overdone and chewy. Everything else was spot on!!
Lovely atmosphere BUT a 35 minute wait fior any service , even a drink after sitting down not good enough. We had to grab someone to get a drink which arrived, after chasing again, at 50 mins after sitting down. I do love this place but waiting that long ruins the occasion. As it’s in the city it also means parking costs higher as you have to wait so long. We left at 3.10 for a 1.30 lunch with 1 course.
Yetersday we went to the ivy for a birthday lunch, the service was excellent, food was excellent and also the atmosphere. We throughly enjoyed our time here and we would definitely come back. The staff couldn’t do enough for us which was different 5/5. Thankyou
Best place to eat in Norwich. Food was excellent, great service and atmosphere we be back soon.
We had the full and the vegetarian breakfast.
We were unfortunately shown to a table that was too close to other customers when there were lots of vacant tables.
The baked beans were so hot that we both burnt our tongues and the butter was so hard we couldn’t spread it.
Apart from that it was very tasty.
Had a really good night. We asked for Lobster to be reserved as we had a late table and it was the first thing Rob covered off - good briefing. Rob was superb as was the food, although our less than refined approach to attacking it probably dismayed the chef
We enjoyed ourselves and the food was beyond delightful, the staff were lovely but could’ve been more attentive.
We had to ask multiple times for the rest of our food to be brought out and a drink that we ordered to be brought to us, and when we received he bill we had to wait 20/30 minutes before anyone came to take our payment.
I appreciate that it was valentines and it was late at night and everyone has been working long hours, but other than that our experience couldn’t have been faulted
Great ambiance, good food and attentive service.
I look forward to coming back sometime soon.
This is the kind of venue that thinks the customer is lucky to be allowed in very unfriendly.
Terrible experience. Waited 30 minutes for drinks to arrive. Champagne was poor quality, sweet and cloying. We ordered the specials fish pie at £21.95 and two steaks to be well done. They arrived 1 hour and ten minutes after we sat down! My daughter cut into her steak and the blood ran out! My husband’s steak wasn’t well done either and it was luke warm at best but he decided to go ahead and eat it after such a long wait. We returned my daughetr’s as it was inedible for her. No apology, waitress just whisked it away. We had just about finished our meals when hers was served. Still not well done but some chefs can be awkward about cooking steak like this and clearly this one was! My fish pie was piping hot but it was clearly a game of hunt the pieces of fish in an over sauced pie! Then to top it all the waiter serving the table behind my husband was stupid enough to point their bottle of champagne at my husband’s back as he opened it and it sprayed all over my husband’s back. The waiter just gave him a napkin to wipe it ! This place is overpriced, overrated and simply not worth the money or a second visit.
100% A* service. Great food. Pricey but you get what you pay for!
Great Victorian setting with fantastic service. Food was good, although steak could have been better. A little expensive when matched with similar places.
My wife and I had a lovely meal and the staff and was very good.
We will be going back. Thank you.
