The Ivy on the Square
The restaurant features a Parisian-style outdoor terrace and a bar, offering tranquil relaxed yet sophisticated dining just a stone’s throw from Princes Street.
Amazing restaurant with a lovely vibe. Both the food and service was outstanding with no faults from both of us.
Would definitely recommend to everyone, an amazing place to relax and dine with family or friends.
Good experience staff very friendly made a point of our wedding anniversary being reason for visit
Lovely lunch, food was very good. Restaurant very busy, but it was just a few weeks before Christmas so only to be expected. Only negative was we were seated close to the door and we kept getting a draught when customers entered or left......when I complained, the heater above the door was turned up and reduced the problem (although didn’t totally eradicate it).
Had a lovely meal for my husbands birthday. Very friendly staff and helpful with my 2 year old. Would definitely recommend :)
Great food and lovely set up, specially for getting in the Xmas spirit.
Table for 2 for lunch, very enjoyable and service was excellent, would definitely go again
Be prepared to have to spend
It was a lovely lunch for a special day, 5 stars on everything. It also great wheelchair access.
My friend and myself had come to Edinburgh for a few days and as we had been to the ivy for cocktails the last time we came we decided to have dinner there on on 3/12/2019.
We were not disappointed . The food was excellent and the ambience was lovely. The attention to detail was second to none. Our waiter was friendly, and very professional and made our evening even more enjoyable. He was knowledgeable, charming and had an excellent sense of humour. We did not discover his name only that he was Spanish and had come to work here in the UK from Seville.
We will definitely dine here again.
Fun and easy -peasy,, just what we wanted ,,,, the ground floor is always the best. Friendly team who control everything effortlessly.
Our table was too close to the front door, very draughty. A gale blew every time anyone came in.
Food was very good, especially the truffled mushrooms.
Wine was rather expensive but palatable. Service superb, thank you.
We were four for lunch with a reservation for 2 o’clock. We arrived early and were immediately shown to our table and introduced to our server for the day who looked after us superbly and gave us some very good recommendations regarding both the food and drink. The food was served promptly and there were absolutely no complaints although everybody had a different dish. Although we were unsure about having a dessert, we were persuaded to try the special of the day which was absolutely superb. My guests and I thoroughly enjoyed the Ivy Experience and we will certainly book again when next in Edinburgh.
Food mediocre pricey for the tiniest shepherds pie and small whole fish. Greeters were great but downhill from there. Waiter lack luster and we had to put empty glasses , condiments we were finished with etc on empty table next to us
Basic food a drinks overpriced .
Won’t be going back
What felt like a very special meal in a lovely restaurant in the centre of Edinburgh. Service was discreet but readily available and we all very much enjoyed our food. Would not hesitate to recommend!
Food was good but chicken was burnt underneath and the sauce was much too salty. Good service, very busy, very noisy but we did enjoy our visit.
Delightful food and excellent, attentive service in a lovely setting.
This was the place I brought my chef/husband as he loved it. On Sunday we had Scallops which lacked flavour, crispy duck which there was hardly any of, duck main which was meant to have cepe butter the waiter told us sometimes different chefs serve it without! Blackened cod cooked in banana leaf which was a price of cod I think maybe steamed served in a cold banana leaf and drizzled with a sweet sour glaze, again we were told different chefs, different methods. Danni I think his name is then avoided us and the atmosphere around our table changed. If your staff don’t want to be questioned when something is not on the plate or as described on the menu then omit the asking if everything is alright, that is your chance to put it right.
We have celebrated many birthdays with you and been given vouchers as folks know we loved it. But Monday was not good.
Food very average Disappointing experience indeed. Saved only by the chocolate bomb for desert. Starters and mains were not at a standard I would expect from The Ivy.
Lovely afternoon tea at the ivy! Food was lovely, would have loved more savory items. The chicken truffle roll was amazing!
But absolutely loved it! :)
Really lovely atmosphere and a nice buzz (we had lunch). Overall good value for money but the tip which was included was a little expensive
Impeccable service. Simple but enjoyable food. Lovely ambience
Undercooked Steak and a poor cut of Fillet. Service however was excellent but the quality of food was very poor.
Enjoyable. Would eat there again but at a less busy time
Service was poor and a service charge was added to the bill automatically despite the manager apologising for a lengthy delay due to their error.
Food was very basic but very expensive. Gin and lemonade 9.50.. wow..... 330ml bottle of beer 5.50.. wow. Wont be going back in a hurry
We had dinner at The Ivy and, as always, thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The atmosphere was excellent - so Christmassy and everyone seemed to be relaxed and appreciating their meals. It was very busy but the staff remained pleasant and attentive.
A really delicious afternoon tea. Service was impeccable and the food was delicious. Very pretty festive decorations too.
Fabulous venue. Good food, wine and good service. Was there on Friday and Sunday for lunch. Thoroughly recommended. Quite noisy but you cannot avoid that when so busy in quite a compact area. Personally I prefer downstairs seating to upstairs.
The staff were fantastic, food was lovely but not very warm even though plates were hot. All in all a lovely night although we were very cold. We were reseated but were still quite cold but didn’t want to trouble the lovely staff any further
The Ivy was lovely however we arrived 30 minutes early for our meal, but were turned away from standing at the bar and was told to go to another bar down the road and come back later. I never known an establishment turn away business. There were six adults and we would of had at least two drinks. Not impressed with this!
Excellent service! Food lovely! Nicely decorated for Christmas!
Was a fab restaurant with a lovely atmosphere- staff were so helpful & friendly - plus food & drinks were Delicious can’t wait to come back.
Starters were very good, both ordered steaks which were cooked to our liking but the meat was very tough and sent back. very disappointed!
A great place to experience. Food was cooked really well but feel some side dishes should be included in the instead of chossing and paying for a main then having to pay for veg/chips on top.
Staff was so friendly and attentive.
The ivy provided a smart yet comfortable environment with the Christmas decorations really made it a lovely place to dine. The food was amazing and the service was brilliant we will definitely be returning
My husband and I had a lovely meal at the Ivy on the Square. We both felt our meals were delicious and beautifully presented. The atmosphere was lovely and waiters highly attentive.
We had a lovely experience at the ivy, the food was wonderful and the service was excellent. The only criticism is that we were near the door so got a draft from outside but it did not alter our experience which was overall excellent.
40th wedding anniversary
Visited Saturday 30th Nov, overall average experience and not worth the hype. Food was nice but nothing special, we were shoved in a corner with the restive far to busy to have any atmosphere. Service again ok but would expect more from such a ‘ high’ profile brand.
Overall Nice enough but wont be rushing back.
Enjoyed the veg shepherds pie for the first time - was delicious!
Thanks again to the staff.
