The Ivy on the Square
The restaurant features a Parisian-style outdoor terrace and a bar, offering tranquil relaxed yet sophisticated dining just a stone’s throw from Princes Street.
Enjoyed the experience in a privileged table position, the food, service and company were enjoyable and a welcome distraction to the current difficult conditions.
The staff were informative, pleasant a d efficient keen to cater for our needs.
As always the staff, who are wonderful and very efficient, made lunch a very enjoyable experience. Their enthusiasm wasn’t dented by the imminent closure of all restaurants for an initial two weeks.
Hopefully it won’t be too long until I can meet friends again in such wonderful surroundings
Really enjoyed the ambience, had a nice table on the occasion of our anniversary, went for the set 3 course menu , the Parma ham starter with celeriac salad was well seasoned , opted for the minute steak which was tender and cooked to perfection.
Finished with the cheese course washed down with a nice port ,
It’s was our first visit but can’t wait to return , staff were really friendly and professional.
Always outstanding, great food and the staff are excellent, a great dining experience and offers good value.
First visit to the ivy , the food was lovely and the staff very attentive.
Good organisation regarding Covid .
Good value for money .
Oh my god!!! Amazing!!! Love this place. Food was absolutely fantastic. The wine we ordered was out of stock so they gave us a nicer bottle for the same price—great service. This restaurant takes traditional dishes and puts a new twist on them, every bite is a surprise! Quality of food is great and you can tell they put a lot of effort into sourcing their ingredients. Interior is ambient. Even being upstairs was fantastic, I might even prefer it. The desserts are very thoughtful. My only concern was that the drinks menu is a bit confusing. There are multiple menus for drinks (wine list, cocktail list, etc.), yet the main food menu also has some drinks on it. I think keeping these two completely separate would be more overseeable for the customer. That's a tiny tiny detail though. Overall, this place is an A+! Try the chicken milanese and the truffle fries, both spectacular.
Monkfish curry was outstanding.
One of the worst meal I have ever experienced in my life, the food was over priced, over cooked beef for my main meal and tasteless.
Would never recommend this place to anyone to try!!!! Avoid at all cost!
I’ve had a McDonald’s that’s tasted better than the food in The Ivy.
Excellent food, great atmosphere given the restrictions of covid. Staff were helpful and friendly. Would definitely visit again.
Celebration for my granddaughter s 13th Birthday, lovely food, great service & a special little tribute to my granddaughter at the end of the meal from the staff, wonderful evening had by all
The food was delicious but it was not a relaxed dining experience as I felt we were rushed into ordering as soon as we had sat down, the main course came immediately after the starter. We were asked to hurry up an hour and a half after sitting down. There was supposed to be an optional discretionary amount added to the bill but I wasn't asked about this and it was added. Perhaps fair but definitely not optional. I would have left a tip anyway. Set times for eating are not a good idea in my opinion. This did not look like a fast food restaurant but came across that way.
Food and service were outstanding , this is why we continue to return on a regular basis .
Another lovely experience in the ivy with every thing on point we will miss you till you return so sad that like all restaurants you have had to close after all the hard work & effort to reopen
See you all again soon x
We had to cancel for Saturday because of the lockdown but managed to get a table at short notice on Thursday. Food was superb and so was the service. Temperature taken as we went in once we were at table we were mask free until we left or got up to go to the toilet.
Would definitely recommend to family and friends
Service was very good. Starter and desert lovely. Main courses need improved.
Amazing fish + chips oh and the melting chocolate bomb desert. I’ll definitely be back.
The food is excellent, and the service is good. The issue was I was sat right next to the front door, so every time it opened the cold air blasted me and every single person coming in and out brushed past my chair. It felt as if it wasn't a place for a normal table and it was squeezed in and it made the entire experience less pleasant, which is a shame because the food is very good.
Lovely food, meal slightly spoiled by the location of our table, which was at the bottom of the stairs, so was very noisy with folk tramping up and down and we had the kitchen on the other side, so a constant stream of waiting staff walking by. Would request a table upstairs if I go back.
Well-trained, courteous and professional staff throughout and very good food, correctly priced. Will definitely become a regular haunt in future.
Excellent service in a timely fashion. Could not fault anything from arriving to leaving. Booked a table and was shown to it on the specified arrival time.
We enjoyed the chargrilled halloumi with its delicious accompaniments and a side dish of dressed, sprouting broccoli. Another of our party greatly enjoyed the Shepherds pie, with a side of peas, sugar snaps and baby shoots.
Followed by: creme brûlée, tiramisu and the fig pastry assemblage. All excellent.
Great service and lovely ambience too.
Your paying for the status of eating at the ivy and not the quality of the food.
Took my girlfriend for her birthday, and picked the Ivy as it has a good reputation for being a nice restaurant. Was really enjoying my experience, as the place is stunning inside and the service matches that, however, was incredibly underwhelmed with the food, I had the fish and chips which I could’ve made in the house ( it was that poor ) and my girlfriend had a burger which she didn’t even finish half of. Very disappointed with the food and was very disappointed overall, since I had such high expectations.
Had an excellent meal at the ivy . Service was excellent food delicious and we felt very comfortable and at ease with the social distancing . Would definitely recommend the ivy to any person who is feeling slightly nervous about dining out at this time .
everyone there was so nice- if u have luggage they keep it for u! the waiters always are around and theres no need to wait for any amazing service in that place!! so considerate of religious dietary reqs too!
Great food and atmosphere. Will definitely be back.
Me and my husband came here for our wedding anniversary several days ago. The food was the best we had both ever tasted!!! So full of flavour and cooked beautifully!! Absolutely stunning. I am vegetarian, my husband is not and both our dishes were so flavoursome! And they had a fantastic range for vegan/vegetarians surprisingly .. as most places do not! The service was impeccable!! We never waited for anything, we were persistently looked after the entire time! I would highly recommend 'The Ivy' a beautiful place, outstanding food and fantastic staff!! We had a lovely finishing touch with two cakes brought to us which said "happy anniversary". Absolutley perfect! Thank you so much for a memorable time!! Mrs & Mr Henvey.
Really lovely atmosphere and the food was delicious. The table had chicken Milanese and salmon. Will definitely return to try more dishes
Delicious food and excellent service especially from Ibrahim Berr. Really interesting flavours and care and attention given to all presentation
Wonderful experience as always
Great service, food & cocktails
Overpriced subpar food and super rushed service
Beautiful food, atmosphere and service. Thank you
Excellent service and the food was lovely. Would recommend.
Food excellent, cleanliness standards were fantastic.
Lovely venue for lunch with friends. Service is always really on point here. One of the main reasons I keep going back as the staff are really nice and offer high service. Thanks
Lovely lunch with my family. Only downfall was the location of our table at the bottom of the stairs and in hindsight we should have asked to be moved. We will know for next time.
I found the service was the area that made my experience different to other restaurants, the staff were outstanding, very attentive and polite.
We were there to celebrate an 18th birthday and my daughter was presented with a small cake and candle which was a nice touch. It would have been helpful to know I could have ordered a cake earlier then 2 days before my booking, by that point I had already got one.
I would definitely book the Ivy again.
All staff were so polite and attentive during our visit. One of our meals had to be sent back as the chicken was not cooked- however when I mentioned this to the member of staff at our table they were in complete agreeance and couldn’t have been more apologetic and completely rectified the situation. I didn’t wish to make a scene but the way the staff handled it was superb and as a result didn’t put me off returning to the restaurant again.
Quite pricey and food not as good as the two previous Ivy’s we have visited
Would not recommend, food was out too quick , tables are very small , the salmon was under cooked , I complained to be told we should have said and we would have been offered something else. When he should have offered to take it off the bill! My fish batter was full of grease. Not worth the money. Decor was nice 👍🏼
