The Ivy on the Square
The restaurant features a Parisian-style outdoor terrace and a bar, offering tranquil relaxed yet sophisticated dining just a stone’s throw from Princes Street.
Absolutely loved our meal. The food was superb and the staff were excellent and it didn’t break the bank. Well worth the visit and we will be back! Xxx
We visited The Ivy for a date night, and if we’re honest it was pretty disappointing. The service itself was really good, but the food was pretty poor.
For starters we had the lobster and samphire risotto and tempura prawns. The risotto was ok, no better or worse than that. And the prawns were nice enough, but we’ve had better elsewhere. For main I had the prawn and monkfish curry which again, was ok, but nothing spectacular. My wife had the special of the day which was halibut - but the amount of bones in it was quite shocking, every mouthful had her picking out 4 or 5 bones. The halibut was £27, so quite pricey for what it was.
Overall I’d not rush to go back, there are much better restaurants in Edinburgh and at a fraction of the cost.
Possibly the nicest meal I've had at a resturant. The service was exceptional and the food delicious. I would highly recommend to family and friends. Look forward to returning.
This was a great choice . Food and service were excellent. Surroundings are so nice. Went for the set menu which was really nice and will be back.
It was hard to decide what to eat, there were so many delicious choices.
The food I did choose was delicious.
Good priced house wine and great, friendly service made it an excellent lunch time experience with my friend.
Excellent location, attentive staff and lovely food
I can highly recommend.
Very good lunch, service attentive lacked a bit of friendliness, food good wine good
Love the chocolate bomb ... good value for lunch special been a number of times and is always top class
Anniversary meal as a couple,Great service received from start to finish from the team
Food was fantastic ,could not find fault with any of our choices during our visit
A relaxed enjoyable evening
Very pleasant , attentive staff, nice ambiance, although I thought a little overpriced for what we received
Excellent food & drinks, very polite service and decor
Almost good but just not cutting it. It wouldn’t take much to be improve but the experience does not live up to the prices and location.
We ordered steak frites with peppercorn sauce . The steak was tough and the sauce had been dumped on the top ! ... it looked and tasted like a bland stew . Did not taste of peppercorns ... a very disappointing first visit to this hyped up restaurant .
First time here and absolutely loved it. Service outstanding. Food delicious ...only marked down in noise as maybe tables too close together ...as customers behind me very loud couldn’t hear my friend. Cocktails also stunning ....will def be back
Fantastic food and service. Can’t wait to return.
A nice meal, but slightly disappointing compared with our other outings here. Only one vegetarian main course option! So my friend asked if there was a vegetarian burger and the waiter laughed at him. My salmon and haddock fishcake was ok but a bit tasteless.
The value for money is not great, with a small bottle of beer costing over £5.
I’ll no doubt be back, but will be hoping for better things next time.
Fantastically polite server, very good ambiance and excellent food. You can't ask for more.
Had an amazing time at The Ivy, we rang ahead to see if they could change the booking from 17.15 to 18.00 and there was no issue and very accommodating. Also when I originally booked the table I noted that I was a coeliac, as soon as we sat at our table the manager asked why lady was the coeliac and went over the menu with me, this won the service for me as I always mention it in the comments but no one every mentions it I always have to mention it. The Food, The service, The atmosphere, not the mention the cocktails, 10 out of 10. If I ever visit Edinburgh again I will most definitely be paying a visit!
Arrived for our table to be seated right opposite the bar. Asked for another table and told no this is the allocated table for us. Sister went up the stairs to look at the view as had not been there before only to be chased up the stairs by a hostess shouting where are you going. She found a table up the stairs where we really wanted to sit but told it was not available to us and would need to take the table at the bar. Felt like it was like it or limp it, they did not care if you liked it or not. The table next to us also complained to the waitress about this and told nothing she could do. Food was ok taste wise it all the noise from the bar and people passing by made this not so enjoyable for us. In the time we were there 4 tables complained about being seated there and 2 were moved. We told our waitress to inform the management about this and obviously there was a problem on this as they had heard it all before and nothing gets done about it. This shows the restaurant is not interested in your experience only the colour of your money.
Food excellent. Not happy with 12.5% discretionary service charge, was not given the option to decline this as I object to this kind of practice. Will advise my friends to be aware of this. Pity, as meal service very good, which is why I left a tip of my choice.
Spent a very enjoyable pre-theatre evening there. The cocktails, food, staff and service was nothing short of excellent. We will most certainly be back. Cannot fault anything, it was, in my opinion, the perfect dining experience!
Saturday late lunch at The Ivy and whilst we enjoyed it, few things that disappointed. Service was excellent with staff very attentive and helpful without being over the top. Espresso martinis were delicious. Food was nice but in my opinion overpriced and not as good quality as you would expect. Lobster risotto to start was nice but tiny and very little lobster. Had daily special of beef Rossini. Lots of spinach on plate which was cold and under seasoned. Nice meal but now I have been I wouldn’t rush back ...
it was ok the staff were great. Always friendly. It was a busy sSaturday but the noise level with the horrible inappropriate music did spoil the experience quite a bit. We could hardly hear ourselves talk.
Great food and fabulous service. If anything the DJ could have been a little louder to create a slightly different atmosphere.
Food was lovely but my lobster gratin was like warm I did eat some of it but did mention it to the waiter who did offer another one but my husband had eaten most of his meal and it would mean me eating my replacement when he had finished.
A lovely place to eat with stunning food. We were forgotten about with our mains and waiting sometime however this was noticed and received free drinks. I can’t fault the food although my partner said the fish pie was more potato than fish which he wasn’t impressed with from the specials
The restaurant has a outstanding interieur and we were looking forward to spend an evening there. But unfortuntately the food was unexpectedly not good. The burger was burnt, besides that nobody asked how it should be cooked. The sole was rare inside. The knives did not cut properly and it was far too loud. The service was friendly.
Lively ambiance and very helpful staff. Good to see the Ivy’s traditional menu re appear in Edinburgh - everything was fresh and tasty but the lemon sole was over cooked. Surprising given the delicious fish others had from the menu. Helpful staff who tried to ensure the relentless beat of the music was turned down to ensure we could hear ourselves speak! We were not the only guests having similar challenges. Overall good - just drop the music and improve on cooking lemon sole.
Whilst we enjoyed the food, the noise level completely spoilt the occasion as they had installed a DJ who played totally inappropriate music as such a level that everyone had to shout to be heard. Would never go back here.
Enjoyed! Nice meal, good atmosphere, ideal setting in Edinburgh, close to other bars and restaurants.
Great food, great atmosphere, great service and lovely setting
Lovely ambiance, decor & great service. Didn’t enjoy my food as much as the first visit but possibly chose the wring thing!
Fab place to eat staff very helpful hope they bring one to Newcastle would be packed all the time looking forward to going back to Edinburgh and dinning at ivy
Service was very good efficient and always with a smile. Food well presented and tasty. Overall a pleasant experience.
Friend’s breakfast... we ate lightly with toast porridge and lashings of delicious coffee. Nattered away for an hour and a half as they set up for lunch around us... we didn’t feel rushed or pushed out. Lovely place, tasty food (always) great staff (always).
Absolutely delicious food. The staff (from the Manager down) were exceptionally professional, efficient and friendly. Not the most cheapest place to eat , but great ambience. Lovely "touch" my friend receiving a small cake for her Birthday. Will definitely revisit for another Special Occasion. Excellent team work from the staff. You could tell the staff were extremely customer focussed. Manager was extremely "hands on" which was lovely to see and very good with his staff. WOULD THOROUGHLY RECOMMEND.
My family and I had lunch at Ivy for my graduation and the food was amazing along with the service.
We would definitely go again for a special occasion.
100% would recommend
Fabulous good value food, great service & beautiful surroundings, can't wait for my next visit.
The Ivy Edinburgh is a lovely place to enjoy good food and great service in a lovely environment. The set menu, available weekdays is good value.
Gorgeous place inside couldn’t fault the staff or the food - you get what you pay for. Will return soon hopefully
