The Ivy on the Square
The restaurant features a Parisian-style outdoor terrace and a bar, offering tranquil relaxed yet sophisticated dining just a stone’s throw from Princes Street.
Great meal for my boyfriend’s 30th. Great service, food was amazing and just really enjoyed the evening!
Excellent Service & Food. Love this chain across the country, can always guarantee a decent meal and great coffee.
Brilliant all round staff very professional wine list could do with explaining of what description the wines have in taste and not just of were the grapes came from also a steak fillet had 2 prices £27 and £32 the duck pate did not warrant the £5 extra charge and duck taste overpowered the fillet which did not complement at all
Our visit was to celebrate our daughters 21st Birthday. We arrived early and enjoyed a pre dinner drink at the highly sophisticated looking bar, the staff were splendid in their appearance and attentive in their service, even taking our drinks to the table once it was ready! The table was exquisite looking out over St.Andrews Square. With six people in our party the service was phenomenal with precise attention to every detail, making all our courses memorable and delicious! The evening was more than a birthday celebration meal, it was a dining experience that was just perfect in every way.
Terrible table in glass atrium which was freezing, made worse every time the front door opened. Poor lighting no one could read the menu. Hurried to table. would Not go back
My wife and I had a lovely experience at The Ivy. The service was exceptional and the food was amazing.
Majority of the tables are seated very close to each other but we were sat at a corner table and felt we had plenty of room.
We’ll definitely be back!
Good food.. excellent service.. waiters very attentive.. Good value for money .
My husband and I had a meal on Saturday at the Ivy, the food was all lovely, staff was so friendly from the start of our visit to the end of our visit .
All staff was so helpful especially Claudia and Roberto.
I would definitely recommend this restaurant and we will definitely be back soon.
Kim & Steph
Beautiful breakfast and well priced . Staff friendly with efficient service.
Only down side, a down draught from windows.
Great experience for my husband's special day.
Stylish restaurant with great service and staff . Second visit and really enjoyed the whole experience . We all enjoyed our different dish choices . My friends were visiting from USA and it felt a special evening . Thanks to staff at the Ivy !
Lovely food and drinks but had to move table as we were by the door and any time anyone came in or left the restaurant there was a draft of very cold air. We asked to move and were moved upstairs immediately.
Took my partner here for here birthday breakfast.. we arrived here earlier than booked but the staff were more than happy and welcoming to accommodate us early!! Turns out the place is a little gem in the heart of Edinburgh and will definitely be returning in the future!! The food was incredible possibly the best breakie me and my partner have had in a very very long time!!
This was well worth the wait , courteous and friendly team from been welcomed at the meet and greet through to leaving including service at the table. The food was great, fish and chips together with the chocolate bomb for dessert. Celebrating our wedding anniversary the team provided champagne on the house for our celebration. Would highly recommend and look forward to our next visit to Edinburgh when this Ivy will be our first choice
Very impressed with service and food, as I’ve been before. I have an unusual allergy (sulphur dioxide). I always get a bit anxious about raising this as I know it causes extra work - and I have had a variety of responses to this when eating out. Everyone dealt with it efficiently and pleasantly so I could relax and enjoy a lovely meal, which is a rare treat for me.
The food is beautifully cooked and presented, imaginative and with extra wee touches that make it exceptional.
Excellent food and service - thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Would highly recommend.
Welcoming staff, good choice on the menu , wines reasonably priced.
Food portion size varied considerably between myself and the person who I was eating with.
I was on business so did not raise this at the time, my salmon main course portion was tiny with no accompaniments other than a very small cucumber salad and no side dishes were recommended when the order was taken. The person I ate with had a very large chicken salad and bizarrely as he was eating it was then bought another piece of chicken on a side plate as the chef felt his portion size was too small.
Poor value and to be honest all very embarrassing.
I ate again when I returned to my desk
Very nice lunch , atmosphere good and friendly knowledgable staff. First visit but not the last
An excellent restaurant with high standards, good food and professional, helpful and friendly staff.
Had a great dinner here, good food and wonderful service.
Great location in heart of Edinburgh and perfectly located to get around and about. Service excellent and attentive. Good value though not cheap. Food very good and “Ivy typical” though my one comment is that the Edinburgh menus seemed very fish biased (diff to previous ones experienced?) which is not so good if you prefer meat.
Visited now on 3 occasions, once for lunch with family and twice for an evening meal with friends. The staff are friendly, approachable and well informed. It is a good varied menu making it suitable for different tastes, including those trying to choose healthy options. It is a welcoming, comfortable and modern environment which adds to your enjoyment of your meal. During the day it is suitable for a relaxing lunch and in the evening it has a good happy buzz about it, again adding to your enjoyment of the experience. This is a quality restaurant which deserves it's place in the heart of Edinburgh (St.Andrew's Square). I will definitely be back!
Fabulous experience. I've been before but first time for my wife and she loved it. Food was excellent, service outstanding and atmosphere wonderful. If we had to be critical (it's hard to be) it would be the use of plastic straws vs paper or even no straw. That aside it was first class.
Anazing service food well oresented and cooked recommend to anyone
Really nice restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere. Our table wasn’t ready when we arrived so we were seated at the bar and given a a complimentary glass of fizz. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We had afternoon tea which was very nice - and filling! Would highly recommend
Despite being very busy, the service was very good and attentive, and the food was excellent, tasty and fresh
Will be back in the future !
Poor disability awareness. Staff inattentive at door - didn’t at first notice me struggling with crutches. Asked to take my coat at door but I needed to get crutches off so they just led me to our table and left me. Didn’t help me off with my coat or offer to hang it, so it was left on my chair. No offer of a drink while waiting for my friends, only the tap water. Had to summon a waiter to ask what the fish of the day and specials were. Long wait to order. We really had to actively seek out waiters. Usually staff look for opportunities to sell us more drinks but we gave up on our server showing any interest in us. After paying, the staff again disappeared, no help to get coat on. Thankfully nearby diner stood up and moved his chair, helped me get out of area, and I struggled again with the door on the way out. Food was nice but pricy for what it was and service well below par. Spent £138 on lunch so I think some attentiveness should be expected. They were very busy but they had plenty of staff . I don’t see us returning.
Had a special birthday lunch experience recently with friends. Everything was lovely including the chocolate birthday cake. Highly recommend for a girls lunch.
Great choice for Dry January treat - loads of fancy kinds of tea, juices and coolers. Fabulous all round.
An excellent meal to celebrate a birthday with friends. Good service, and very good food. My guests enjoyed their first visit to the Ivy and it was all in all a fun, laughter filled evening. The starters were all very good, though one guest felt he did not get many prawns in his prawn cocktail ( they took it off the bill without us even asking which demonstrates what a good place it is). Mains were excellent and we recommend the apple tart tarting and chocolate bombe.
Excellently cooked steak. Don’t like having to order sides at a very expensive extra cost.
Waiter was polite and efficient
Table at the end of the row, directly in front of the bar made it noisy from cocktail shakers and busy with traffic. Darkly lit made reading the menu difficult so I used the torch on my phone.
Drink had to be sent back, not as described on menu. Food was bland and overpriced
Treated my husband to his birthday meal. I have visited several times before, this was his first visit and he was not disappointed. The staff were very pleasant and attentive without being overbearing. The food was delicious. I mentioned it was his birthday and he got a Happy Birthday raspberry tart. A great dining experience.
We are regulars to The Ivy and it never fails to impress in all areas. Special mention to our waitress, who was superb
I had a lovely breakfast at the Ivy, the service was great! The waiters were very friendly, made sure our needs were met at all times and had a down to Earth approach. There was a lot of nice small touches as well such as the napkin being folded when you left the table for when you come back.
The staff at the Ivy are always very friendly and attentive which makes the visit well worth it. The food is excellent and I would recommend going there for breakfast as this is the only meal I’ve had there on the occasions that I’ve been.
Our first visit to an Ivy other than the original, which is our favourite and a must visit for us when in London. We were pleased to find some of the usual favourites from the original Ivy’s menu. In particular, my favourite dessert of the iced berries was available. In London now on request. Our other dessert , chocolate done/bombed extremely good. Waiting staff very attentive.
Was at the restaurant for a 50th birthday treat. First time of being there and it was a great experience. The staff were very attentive and the food was lovely. Also a couple of nice touches of being wished a happy birthday by our waiter and the little happy birthday chocolate on the dessert. Will definitely be back.
We had a wonderful evening at the Ivy.
The service was excellent from all the waiting staff, especially Maitre de who was efficient and welcoming, I wish I could remember his name however I do recall he came from Malaga Spain.
We had delicious food and the atmosphere was elegant yet cosy.
All in all a very special evening, thank you.
we realise we had reached our allotted 2 hour time limit but felt we could have been offered somewhere else to sit and relax over drink or coffee rather than to be told twice (in matter of minutes) that our table was needed. Upstairs had no customers so we would have been happy to sit and enjoy remainder of night rather than have to find hotel. It was reasonably cold evening out and as our table was by large window did not feel it was comfortably warm.
