The Ivy on the Square
The restaurant features a Parisian-style outdoor terrace and a bar, offering tranquil relaxed yet sophisticated dining just a stone’s throw from Princes Street.
Excellent customer service and attentiveness. Relaxed atmosphere. Would recommend
Very enjoyable . Good food and good service . Perhaps the DJ not required as the background music a bit irritating but we would certainly go again .
We went for my friend’s birthday as a surprise brunch and asked for the staff to bring some Prosecco to the table on arrival which they did without even being prompted. They were really accommodating and even brought her a little cake and candle at the end which was a really nice extra touch. Service was great and we all really enjoyed the food. Will definitely visit again!
Heard so much about the Ivy but found it rather disappointing. The food was ok, but the service was patchy at best.
Exceeded our expectations, the manage went above and beyond for us. Food was excellent as was the service. Even a little cake as a surprise for my auntie.
Second time here. Lovely meal, great service, great location. Very buzzy atmosphere. Will definitely be back and highly recommend.
Excellent food with good portion size, great service and good atmosphere. Highly recommended.
Food excellent. Fantastic location. Nice touch as complimentary dessert to celebrate our anniversary. Service was amazing.
Great food and great service.
Beautiful decor and we were upgraded to a nice table as we were celebrating our Anniversary. Nice touch.
As usual, it was a very high standard and you never cease to impress, particularly re your exemplary staff and absolutely delicious menu, catering for vegans and vegetarians.
The only slight negative (but obviously outwith your control), was the very high level of noise but perhaps this is because on this occasion, we were upstairs where it seemed to be more amplified than usual so we required to almost have to shout at each other. Having said this, however, it gave us more privacy to talk and, after all, it was a busy Saturday night, a very happy background noise, full of laughter and innocent fun plus the other diners were merely out having a good time, so this is not really a complaint but only an observation. Thank you once again to you all. Rock on!
Didnt like the entry system, all a bit tight. Staff all nice. Table a bit tight for such an upmarket place. Service was very good. Food was OK but not particularly impressive.
Lack of the usual service I have experienced at The Ivy. Staff were not very accommodating. Had booked a table for 2 people for afternoon tea. Upon arrival asked if 2 more could join us and they refused on the basis they were fully booked. There were at least two empty tables for our duration there.
Our table was not cleared when we finished eating. And we were made to feel like we were putting them out when we wanted our leftovers (that we were clearly paying for) bagged up to take away. Mainly because I’ve item was in a pot. And they didn’t want to give the pot away. That’s fine. Surely they have plastic containers. Table next to us were super loud as well. Didn’t enjoy the experience at all. Birmingham and Cheltenham are much better.
Excellent service, good food. Busy and quite loud. Not inexpensive but fair for city centre. Enjoyable meal and waitress was excellent.
Lovely restaurant, love the ambience and the staff and food are really good!
I have visited several Ivy restaurants over the last year but the Edinburgh restaurant was the best so far. First class service and first class food. It was a great place to eat.
I was do impressed with the ivy
The food is absolute divine
And the service absolutely outstanding
I can’t wait to return
The service from Sam was fantastic, she really helped make the day special. The food was delicious (I recommend the pumpkin tortellini!!) And there was a complimentary dessert as we were celebrating. It was a little pricey but definitely worth the cost for a wonderful evening!
What a fabulous restaurant- great food, service, ambience and location
Prices far too high. Food good, portions small to very small.
Over fussy filling up of glasses
Took a while for Bill to arrive
A great find, good service, good food, a very good experience
Superb service, excellent food and very knowledgeable staff. Overall cannot recommend enough, will definitely be back.
Everything was lovely apart from my partners poached eggs being slightly over done.
So relaxed and friendly attentive staff and first class service so quick and efficient made you feel special
Minute steak was drowned in a thin peppercorn sauce, not quite up to the standard of the last one I had at the Birmingham Ivy. Apple dessert was however very good and the service was also excellent. Overpriced for what I received on this particular occasion. Perhaps an off day in the kitchen?
We enjoyed our first visit to The Ivy on the Square. The wide-ranging menu offers something for most tastes (and appetites) and the food was very enjoyable. If we had any criticism, it would simply be that the tables are too close together for comfort and the subtle, evening lighting was a little too subtle for all of our group, who had to juggle the menu to catch better light. We weren't the only ones with this problem- the man at the table adjacent to us used the torch on his phone when reading the menu. In spite of those reservations, we plan to return.
Bill was wrong but was amended immediately when pointed out.
Lovely setting and attentative waiter, shame about the head waiter who appeared abrupt and ignored us when we arrived
I regularly visit The Ivy around the country. It has been mine and my partner’s favourite restaurant since we found it. The Edinburgh Ivy was my least favourite, I didn’t like the table and mentioned this to the maitre d’. Food and service as always, outstanding.
We had been to The Ivy before, including in other locations. We thought the food was actually better this time. There is a great 'suit all' menu. It is not Michelin. The Ivy is an upmarket brasserie with very friendly service and a great, sociable ambience, and is beautifully fitted out without being too formal. We sat upstairs this time with a wonderful view of St Andrews Square. It is and impressive establishment, perfect for special sociable occasions. It does what it says on the tin!
Couldn't fault anything from my experience in this establishment. Keep up the excellent service and the staff need to be commended on their professionalism.
Excellent service and meal.
My friend and I had a wonderful Afternoon Tea and it was excellent value for money. The service was great and the quality of food was superb. They even surprised me with a mini cake with a candle in it for my birthday and a chocolate saying happy birthday on it! (Like I needed more cake!!)
I would definitely recommend this place for quality and value for money.
Lovely setting for a great meal. Staff were really helpful and the food was great. Only thing I would say is on the day the music was quite loud adding a distraction to conversation. Thanks very much
Our table was on the lower level close to the bar. Very buzzy atmosphere and great fir people watching. Waiter very pleasant and welcoming. Food very good and nicely presented. A great lively restaurant to dives a Saturday evening at.
Lovely meal great service.
Service was very good but the food was terrible. 3 of our party ordered sirloin steaks and they were over cooked, tasteless and cold. The side orders were also cold. The manager did rectify and offered us other steaks and deducted 2 steaks from the bill but it was not a great first impression. I’d have expected that charging £24.95 for a sirloin steak they would be able to cook it properly. You also get no sides or vegetables with it and have to pay extra for these. I’m afraid my expectations high and I was really disappointed, we won’t be back.
. Underwhelmed in 1st visit, enjoyed 2nd visit but the 3rd visit was outstanding in every way from service to food.
Enjoyed my afternoon late lunch, especially the cocktail
I took my 12 year old niece for a special treat. The restaurant was beautiful; the staff were really helpful and attentive but in a balanced way. We felt looked after but not overwhelmed. Our waitress for the day was lovely. We really enjoyed our food; especially the Chocolate Bombe dessert. Well worth a visit and I will definitely visit again.
Amazing service , felt not rushed out
