We had a wonderful dinner at The Ivy-the food was well prepared, the ambience was enjoyable, and what took our evening over the top from great to excellent was our server Mateusz. Mateusz is attentive, kind, and gives wonderful recommendations. I felt spoiled leaving the restaurant, he is truly an asset to The Ivy team and I look forward to returning to dine the next time we are in Edinburgh.

Food & drinks were good but very expensive so not good value for money. Service was fair but they forgot some of our order and slow to rectify this. I wouldn't recommend as other places serving similar food, much better value for money.

Very disappointed in the service as it was extremely slow and the waitress didn’t seem engaged in her role. I have been once before and the service was great but sadly not this time. Will not be returning.

Had to continually tell the waiter to get our drinks from the bar which we could see were ready for 15 minutes each time. The food was cold and to be fair wasn’t overly great. Disappointed as last time couldn’t fault it.

The food was fine when it arrived but it took a really long time to come. The waitress apologised but it would have been nice to offer free top ups of our hot drinks. It’s a shame the lobby is crammed full of suitcases and feels like a bus station.

We had some English relatives staying for the rugby match, and although they are well travelled and accustomed to good eating none of them had ever been to any IVY restaurant. My wife and I like all the ones we have been to (especially the original) and so were delighted to bring them to The Ivy on the Square. We all enjoyed it, and thought the food, service and general ambience were really good, even though we were a little later (9.00pm) than we would have liked.

Food was very good, we recommend the chateaubriand however the service was at best underwhelming and more of a nonentity. We are not over fussy at all but performance in this vital area was seriously lacking. The seating was very close together table to table and there was nothing that made one think “wow” what a great eating out experience. Mind you we had only been previously to the Manchester Ivy Spinningfields in this prolific chain and clearly they set an exceptional standard that Edinburgh was not attaining. We enjoyed our food but won’t dine there again.

Food was great but the service was poor. 30 minutes to be seated and the front of house didn’t give us the warmest welcome which is why service has scored so poorly unfortunately.

First time at The Ivy on The Square. Food was excellent but the service was slow, possibly linked to it being the Scotland England rugby at Murrayfield. Far too many tables crammed in for what we anticipated was an upmarket venue. Diners were so close together it could have been McDonalds. For that kind of ambience it was too expensive. A dining experience is not just about the food, it’s the atmosphere, the service and the whole theatre of the occasion so I’m afraid The Ivy disappointed somewhat. For the money there are better experiences in Edinburgh.

Excellent food and excellent service. My only negative comment relates to reception. We arrived 30 minutes before our meal and planned to have a drink at the bar but this was refused. We had to walk a distance to another bar and wait. I don’t understand why we were turned away.

Had a really enjoyable meal. We were given the afternoon tea menu and had to ask for the normal menu. It was good value. It was a bit noisy when we went in but was busy, however once a lot of people went it was a nice noise volume. Impresses that we were able to change the time of our booking. We were shown to the bar and once our table was free we were shown to it. Very enjoyable evening.

The Ivy afternoon tea was a little disappointing compared to meals we’ve had there previously. We had the smallest table that was a struggle to fit the food & drinks on and we were practically dining with the table next to us it was so close. Food wasn’t great. Sandwiches were dry like they’d been made up in the fridge uncovered ahead of time and sweet treats were mostly all chocolate based with a chocolate milkshake. Very random! Scones were really tasty & the highlight of the meal. Sadly I don’t think we’ll be back again any time soon as wasn’t worth the money.

Lovely restaurant in nice central location however our first experience here wasn’t great. Drinks order was wrong twice, then an ice bucket from 2 tables down got spilled, water and ice cubes all over the floor and under our seats, at the same point our main meal was served. One waiter assisted with cleaning however having to move chair away to allow this meant my meal was sitting on the table not getting touched. No one else bothered to check we were ok or assist with cleaning etc. my jacket was soaked and placed in the cloakroom but still wet on departure. Our plates sat on the table for around 20 mins after main meal. The food was nice but the quality of service and attention / care to the customer was really pretty poor and a let down fir us in this “high end” establishment

Food was awful, fish swimming in butter, soup was overpowering , ordered a bottle of champagne and had to share an ice bucket with the table beside us , asked the waitress if this was normal and she said “you won’t taste each others wine by sharing” she missed the point. Waitress was not very tidy , u inform didn’t fit and wasn’t very clued up on the food, 3rd time at the Ivy and def won’t be back.

Hmmm. Well my sole was EXTREMELY greasy… yes it was a butter sauce but it just tasted of butter possibly rancid at that and not pleasant at all, the mashed potato was lumpy and very greasy indeed. My daughter had the chicken skewers with peanut sauce and jasmine rice and said it was extremely delicious! For pudding I had a crème brûlée which had the texture and taste of scrambled eggs so was desperately over cooked. My daughter had a raspberry and pistachio ice cream sorbet and said it was yet again delicious. Oh and I meant to say that the bread was utterly fabulous. However when the bill came it had an extra charge of £5 for an extra course (which I didn’t have) I questioned the bill and the waited bustled off and said I’ll show you but when he came back he apologised profusely and said I was right and that it was a mistake????? Hmmm Ivy in York is far far better than the Edinburgh one! With a bill of £105 for two people I would expect a lot more!!

First time visiting Edinburgh restaurant It was very busy and staff doing best but looked to be short staffed. Service and drinks/food were quite slow. We enjoyed our food. We were lucky to have a table upstairs. The service was excellent, without being in your face. We ordered the pre starters as we thought they would be small. It was a mistake as they were quite substantial. Which meant that we couldn't manage a dessert. The food was very good . No complaints at all. A very relaxed, enjoyable evening.

Disappointed with service & food! Water spilt by waitress on menu was poured off onto tablecloth! Wrong main course was brought out. Chicken was slightly pink in middle therefore I did not eat it, this was deducted from bill. I put birthday on when I booked table but although next table got cake I did not. Mentioned this when leaving but nothing done about it. This was a second visit the first was lovely but unfortunately I won’t be returning.
