The Ivy on the Square
The restaurant features a Parisian-style outdoor terrace and a bar, offering tranquil relaxed yet sophisticated dining just a stone’s throw from Princes Street.
The place is a gem and the service impeccable. We love it here.
Service was very attentive. The food was excellent with truly beautiful flavours bursting from both the starter and the main course. Will definitely return.
The gentleman in the suit didn’t get his name was extremely helpful with my 80yr old mother when ordering the sole without butter as she has an allergy to, when it came she didn’t like it he then suggested grilled salmon. I feel he went out of his way to make sure she enjoyed her meal and had a enjoyable experience at the Ivy
Upset that a 15% service charge was automatically added to the Bill. I would like to give what I feel is the right amount for the service given.
Lovely venue & customer service was great
Cream tea was lovely
Hot chocolate was a bit cold but drinkable
I can’t wait to come back to the ivy! The food was outstanding, service was lovely and the place was beautiful.
Delicious meal and great service!
Very. Shocking and the language barrier was poor and service was slow .still waiting for my breakfast
Went for breakfast - full Scottish, great food (good size portion) with very attentive & friendly service.
Can’t fault a thing
Was my first visit won’t be the last
Amazing experience thanks
Overall we enjoyed our meal but thought it overpriced for the food and drink we received, the portions were small and had to pay extra for bread, the beer and wine where ok but again overpriced.
The waitress who served us was efficient but did the minimum required of her, we felt that we were being rushed, there was no conversation about what we wanted.
We booked hoping for a fine dining experience which we didn’t get
Beautiful place. Noisy and music quite loud. Food fantastic and staff attentive.
Excellent place to enjoy a sophisticated evening with friends
This was my first dinner at the Ivy having previously only had lunch. It was wonderful. We needed to leave in a hurry due to our scheduled train being cancelled and the staff were sensitive, kind and discreet. The food, wine and ambience were lovely. Just a shame it was a visit cut short but we will be back.
Everything went well although I was violently sick 6 hours after eating
Great night but felt main meals let it down. Steak more well done than med/well. Chicken did not have crispy skin. Lobster risotto was really good, bit hardly much on plate
A bit expensive just to drop in but lovely for a treat i.e birthday, anniversary, groups love afternoon tea - the desserts are to die for 😁😁
Hi, wine and food was great. Loved it.
Will be returning.
Felt the menu was limited, should have the same menu at the weekend as they do Mon - Fri. Not enough choice.
Service was excellent.
Our waiter was fantastic! All the staff were so friendly and attentive - will definitely come back on our next trip to Edinburgh. Thank you
Service excellant as usual Staff all very friendly and professional.Food a very good quality.Even though it was very busy , the dining experience was good.
3 of us went for a surprise for our friends 60th birthday lunch, the eggs benedict with lobster was excellent as was the creme brûlée , we couldn’t fault the service and our waitress Agnes was so friendly and efficient , she brought out a mini birthday cake when she found out we were celebrating. The only downside was we found it a little noisy but it was full. Would definitely recommend.
Gorgeous decor - made it very special. Only downside, although we did know in advance, is the timed table - could easily have sat for another hour and ordered another drink!
Our fourth visit to the Ivy on the Square and the first time to leave us disappointed. Good points; staff were very good and ambiance was not lacking. Bad points; food - starters, prawn cocktails and zucchini fritti were fine, but main courses of lamb rump and roast chicken were completely lacking in wow. Nothing specifically wrong with the lamb, but it just tasted bland, as if the dish was thrown together with minimal effort. Chicken was also bland and tasteless and according to my dining companions was overly fatty. Side order of chips was fatty, probably didn’t have the oil hot enough, whilst the green beans were a bit too crisp - just needed another 30 seconds of cooking. Kitchen didn’t seem to be paying attention to detail that night and it showed. Will be looking for somewhere else to go until they can get it sorted.
The quality of your food was amazing couldn’t fault it was amazing some of the best food I’ve never had
Only thing I didn’t like was been kept waiting for 30 minutes past my reservation time even when they knew my foot was broken
Fantastic food and drink
Side orders exspensive is my only negative
The surroundings and ambiance were very good. Plenty of waiters although difficult to get their attention. We had afternoon tea. Unfortunately the sandwiches had obviously been prepared for a while as the bread was dry and hard. We’ve been to a few places for afternoon tea including Harvey Nichols & The Balmoral & their afternoon tea savoury items were more creative & attractive with pastries & tarts & mini versions of dishes. The desserts were better both flavour & appearance were good & we enjoyed them. I ordered a latte with an extra shot & what I got was a very milky coffee with little coffee flavour. Luckily we had champagne which made up for the poor coffee.
Overall we liked the restaurant & would return but probably not for afternoon tea unless more thought is put into it’s content & presentation.
A very memorable visit to the Edinburgh Ivy. We had dined a few weeks previously at the Glasgow Ivy and were impressed that the food and service were of the same high quality at both restaurants. Very friendly and professional staff at both. Highly recommended, welcome to Scotland, The Ivy! The chocolate bomb is unforgettable!
Great food and music was just at the right level. Well done to the guy operating the sound desk.
Burger was awful. Practically inedible, it was burnt and rock hard. I also had the scallops and was sick after. Overall very disappointing food wise.
Fabulous evening. Attentive service, superb food and ambience. Felt a special evening. Thank you
Very standard menu and taste as any other chained restaurants. Nothing special.
Both food & service was good, I really did not expect it to be so good. Only downside seated at window and being cold weather was a draft coming in.
Been here a few times and it's generally the same. Food is good value at lunch time less so in the evening but we were here for lunch my latest visit. I did get a lovely table by the window as requested, however the waitress spilled a glass of prosecco over my sister who hadn't even had her coat off so we had to get moved to a less nicer table. She kindly offered the glasses as complimentary which is what I would have expected. On this occasion the service fell a bit short as not once did the waiter offer to pour our wine from the bucket and was not very quick to ask if we needed anything when we were looking for coffee after our meal. I'll probably go back but there is plenty choice in Edinburgh so not for a while.
Great food and service. Ambiance amazing as always.
I would recommend The Ivy for very special occasions. Attentive staff, lovely atmosphere and really good food.
Fantastic lunch at The Ivy with my mother. Food was faultless and service was outstanding. Will definitely return.
Birthday meal. Service and location perfect. Food was not as hot as it could have been (especially the side vegetables).
Nice Resturant with great service
Visited for a special birthday. Wonderful attentive and efficient service, delicious food and great ambience. Would definitely return.
