The Ivy on the Square
The restaurant features a Parisian-style outdoor terrace and a bar, offering tranquil relaxed yet sophisticated dining just a stone’s throw from Princes Street.
We had a lovely evening - the food was amazing and the service excellent.
Lovely food, excellent service and the premises were attractive and spotless!
First visit to the Ivy
Service and food was excellent.
Waiters were so helpful explaining the menu.
We will certainly return.
Came for an early dinner with friends - very tasty food and great service. Would recommend!
From Service? Food? Atmosphere? The place to go! Thank you Team Ivy.
My partner and I had a lovely time at the ivy, we will be visiting it sometime soon.
From the moment of entering the service was exceptional. The food did not disappoint. It is on the higher end of the price scale but as the saying goes ‘ you get what you pay for’.
Would definitely revisit.
Attended The Ivy on the square for the first time to celebrate my birthday and I loved the experience from start to finish! I have told everyone about it since and to get book as soon as they can
Lovely evening meal. The girl on the door greeting us had a face on though, very aloof! But everyone else was fine.
Lovely setting food was nice only problem was bones in my fish cakes which put me off a little
A lovely afternoon spent with convivial company with service that is nicely in the background serving high quality food in a sedate manner. Highly recommended.
As wonderful as our last visit .
Food very good & service excellent.
Been to a few The Ivy in various cities and this is still our favourite.
Very relaxing atmosphere, good food and excellent service.
Food was excellent although when paying £30 for a fillet steak I woul have expected vegetables with it. Paying extras for both vegetables added a further £8 to the main course. We were squeezed into a table close to the font door which was draughty and cold. The restraunt was very noisy. The final bill included a cover charge of £16 which I thought was excessive for two people. If I am honest I like to have a choice about whether I want to add gratuities. I would have expected it if there were six or more people. Overall I enjoyed the food but have to be honest and say that it was not really worth the £143 we had to pay.
Came here for a special birthday meal with friends. As ever the Ivy didn’t disappoint. Service was attentive, food gorgeous and the atmosphere was just what we needed
Lovely atmosphere, fantastic food and service. Look forward to dining there again.
Attentive waiter, the food was delicious & the prices competitive, thank you!
A perfect place to spend a morning, with the excellent cooking and friendly service.
Lovely meal, lovely table. Excellent experience! Booked for next week too.
I’m sure we had the best table in the restaurant! 1st floor window corner - brilliant! Staff really friendly and helpful. There but not on top of you. Food exceeded my expectations. Highly recommend goats cheese salad and sweet potato curry. Will definitely be back and recommend to family and friends.
From walking in the door to leaving we just loved the whole experience . Can’t wait to return
Fabulous service as well as great food. It was my Mum’s first visit & an early treat for Mother’s Day. She is in her 80’s & loves the whole experience. We were very well looked after.
Always consistently great every visit.
A delightful lunch had by all the service was excellent the vegetables were too al dente or wilted not good and I had a side of rice and the portion was tiny but as always you don’t complain as we were all having a good time .The main was good and the service was excellent from the entrance to the exit
I’ve been here a few times now and it’s a lovely place but putting a service charge on is just a bit cheeky. It should be up to customer to decide if they want to leave a tip or if any
Fantastic visit. The staff were really friendly and attentive. Food was amazing
Loved it, no hassle great service and great setting
Myself and my Partner made a booking here after much debating where to eat, and we don’t regret it one bit. We had a fantastic table, were looked after by the staff from the moment we walked in, and we’re treated to a fantastically placed table for 2 on the ground floor. The ambience was made even more fantastic by a group of ladies dining in 1920’s dress, who possibly fit into the restaurant more than anyone else! While clearly busy we never waited long for either drinks or food and at the end of the meal a manager came by to ask if we were happy with our meal which we were! It would be nice to be able to choose your own service charge, but it was well deserved on the night.
Beautiful restaurant and great service for the first five minutes then sat without drinks and waited an hour for our main . Fish and chips nice but the cheese burger was similar than a fast food place ... not a £19 burger. Real shame when we’d look firearms to it.
Have eaten at The Ivy in London and Winchester and was looking forward to trying out Edinburgh’s restaurant - we had a great lunch the food, service and atmosphere were all excellent- would definitely recommend.
Beautiful setting, welcoming and attentive staff and a great 'buzz' to the atmosphere. Food options to suit all dietary requirements. The food was fresh, delicious and we'll presented.
50th Birthday Special occasion
We arrived at 9.00pm for a 9.30pm four people reservation
No space / room at the bar or seating area prior to meal
We were asked to leave and return at 9.30pm
Returned at 9.30pm and were seated at bar until our table was made available at 9.52pm
Seated and offering meal after 10.00pm
Food was very very average / poor
Mashed potato was purée and ran off the spoon and the waiter said lots of people had complained and took the potato from the bill
And agreed it was not acceptable
We had four fillet Stark’s and we needed to request the sauces we ordered which arrived approximately 10 minutes after the steak which started to go cold ? No explanation or excuse ?
This was a very special 50th birthday occasion which was ruined by a very bad experience
When the table was booked the 50th birthday was mentioned and the receptionist was made aware and kindly offered a.Birthday cake and a special occasion to remember
The Ivy definitely gave us an occasion to remember but the occasion is best forgotten
Very disappointing experience
A delicious meal with great service and a warm welcome.
We thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would certainly come again when we next visit Edinburgh.
Really enjoyed a family meal at the Ivy. The highlight was the great service which is increasingly difficult to find and worth paying a little extra. It is a lovely dining room and the food was uniformly great without being spectacular. Only downside was the loud music. We couldn't hear the waiters or speak to anyone other than those directly beside us. The whole restaurant seemed to be shouting to compensate. Creating a buzzy atmosphere is one thing but this a notch too much especially as the place was packed. We asked if it could be turned down (waiter agreeing it was too loud) and it did go down a little bit but I am sure crept up again through the evening.
The service was terrible, this is the third of the Ivy locations we have visited and the service at this one was terrible. In addition the quality of the deserts was poor. ☹️
Great food. service and atmosphere. Can’t wait to go back!
Very noisy, uncomfortable seating, ordered steak med-rare and came well done. Service was wonderful, staff really attentive
I reserved a table for a friend's anniversary a wk ago for an afternoon tea. I requested a table near the back of the restaurant as it was a special occasion . We arrived and was shown to a lovely table at the back as requested. The afternoon tea choices were great and delicious. The service from all staff were flawless. My only slight concern was the level of noise nearing the end of our visit as it was quite noisy at a bearable level. The music was turned up so people were speaking louder to be heard. We would definitely come back in the very near future. This has been my 3rd visit so far.
Amazing food staff very attentive overall ambience very good. Thoroughly enjoyed time there. Will definitely be going back
Very cramped and food was average for prices. Wouldn’t come again
