The Ivy Oxford Brasserie

Great lunch with cocktails. The sea trout was light but delicious, and the shepherds pie as good as ever. We treated ourselves to the apple tart flambe, which was a great spectacle and tasted even better.
Very warm welcome with exceptional service in stylish surroundings.
This was a pre-theatre meal so early and the restaurant was not very full but the atmosphere was pleasant. Service friendly and efficient and the food was good. Recommend the Bang bang chicken starter. We loved the retro decor! A nice place, we'll be back.
Andreas Portuguese waiter and Tobbin were very helpful and carefully attentive. Ambiance was delightful, main courses were very good, wild mushroom risotto and also the salmon dish. pudding of creme brulé delicious, ice-cream just okay.
This was my third visit (for lunch) to the Ivy Oxford. As usual it didn’t disappoint. I just love the decor!
The service is always exceptional and it’s my sort of food.
I have eaten at the Ivy in different locations and had always had a great experience.
I suggested to my partner that we should eat here on a trip to Oxford.
Our server was lovely. However my starter came and it was cold. The server apologised and replaced it. Then my burger came and it was burnt. The manager came over and said he’d checked it and it was burnt and he was sorry they were cooking me a new one.
By this point my partner had eaten his two courses on his own and was left waiting for me to eat my food which really ruined the evening.
They then asked if we wanted dessert but we just wanted to leave and try and rescue what should of been a special night. It was a disappointing evening.
Expected something out of the ordinary starters were good rest of the meal rather ordinary. Had a cocktail which was made with rather flat Prosecco. The background music was intrusive with a loud repetitive thump.
I would not recommend if you are looking for a romantic meal for two. We were given a very disappointing corner table, not even sitting opposite each other. I asked if we could move and was told we would have to wait a hour? Really, when other couples were getting tables after us!? Shame, expensive valentines meal looking at the couple next to us!
Amazing! The deco is so eye catching and the staff are very nice. Could be a little better at the reception and cloak room, but otherwise, we had a good lunch.
Lovely place, superb decor, the girls were v impressed with the ladies room.
Service was excellent, the only issue we had was the side dish of spinach was very watery, as in inadequately drained, and when reported the response was “ well that’s the way our chefs serve it “ ! NOT the sort of response I expect from a supposedly customer focused organization!
Great service. Interesting decor. Good food and drinks - though over-priced, heavily. Loud music off-putting. Seems to be trying to be too many things - bar, restaurant...queue of 10 women for the toilet (my main got cold). Shame.
Beautiful setting and lovely atmosphere but a lot of hype for me with no substance. Food was not memorable for the cost and service while attentive was slow. Nice to have been but won’t be rushing back
We were seated on arrival, coat check full, we were seated in a corner sofa type area so had to put our coats sort of folded next to us. There are an abundance of varying staff all of whom drift past you all of the time, there is attentive and there is ATTENTIVE, although one of our waiting staff was very nice, you could not totally relax as there always seem to be someone hovering, it mad you feel a little rushed, I also heard another diner say that. Food was very nice. Decor is lovely, but the whole restaurant is quite loud due to the sheer volume of diners and staff. For the ladies using the bathroom facilities be prepared to queue. I was shocked that there were only 3 cubicles in the ladies rest room, not the way you want pass an evening with quite a long wait. I know for ladies where ever you go this can be a problem but 3? Overall, I would go again, it was nice, but not the best I've ever eaten.
Nice place, nice food. A bit expensive and I don’t like places that automatically add a 12.5% service charge. I go to a restaurant expecting a service that is in the cost of my food. I don’t expect to pay a service charge for anything else so why a restaurant? As it goes I would have tipped the very excellent waitress who served us, but I want to give it to her and I want it to be an amount of my choice not yours.
Lovely food and special occasion venue. It was my Birthday and they did a lovely little cake! Only small issues. We tasted our wine but then the waiter walked off without pouring! Taking the food orders from the men first and not the ladies. It’s the special touches that would have made this extra special . I love it there and will always go back but the service just needs to go up a notch .
Food was lovely but service was quite slow unfortunately.
The service was really good the cloakroom was very handy, staff was friendly very obliging. Food didn’t take long and was absolutely delicious would definitely recommend will return.
We had a very enjoyable evening. From the moment we were greeted, had our coats taken and were seated we had outstanding service. All of the staff were friendly and polite and seemed really pleased we had chosen their restaurant to eat at. Their was a great atmosphere and lovely mix of diners. The decor is really opulent and glamorous whilst still being quirky.
Service was attentive and well paced. Not so quick that we felt rushed but not slow either. There is a really great choice of food for both starters, mains and desserts as well as vegetarian and vegan. The truffled wild mushroom starter was delicious and a very generous portion size. The fish and chips were just perfect, batter was so light and not at all greasy.
Sadly no room for desserts on this occasion but we will definitely be back and hope to try them out then.
Amazing place, beautiful decor, friendly staff and superb food!
The attention to detail is amazing, from ambience, staff, service, food and facilities. A treat of a dining venue.
We loved our food and had a great time, but having visited the Ivy in London I was a little disappointed to see the service level wasn’t up to the same standard.
We were kept waiting a while for our appetisers and items of food were dropped / knocked and all sorts on arrival. As well as this we had cutlery dropped, a lady in a black suit roll her eyes at some customers who walked in front of her and just felt a bit uncomfortable as a result. For the price tag I wouldn’t hugely recommend, however for drinks at the bar it was lovely and the guys serving us were nice!
5/10 would try again but not until an offer was on..
Service has got so much better since before Christmas
The breakfast was not great and overpriced. The worst part was the service took over an hour and a half for four people to simply get our food after we ordered it. Everyone in our party got very simple meals (eggs and toast or pancakes). The portions were pretty small. Go to Vaults and Gardens instead for breakfast.
Lovely Birthday brunch beautiful decor. Food excellent service efficient
Great apart from the added 12.5% gratuity charge added to the bill automatically should be at our discretion
Great evening out. Our waiter Guss did and excellent job. Food was great. Recommend it to
We had a table for two, small table, too small for food and condiments. Sat by door, really cold as it was open and closed to let people in. Felt rushed, and didn’t really feel like it was a relaxing evening.
The food was outstanding - lovely combination of flavours - except for the truffle and parmesan chips which were uninspired and soggy. The service however was poor and not what is to be expected from a high end restaurant. we had to ask for water and when the flask of water had run out it was not refreshed. the wine was put in a bucket some distance from the table; that is OK if the server had kept an eye on our glasses but they did not and we had to ask four times for refills. one of our party had a beer and it was warm. when the bill came we had to wait around 10 or so minutes before the machine was brought and that was only after we asked for it. Disappointing service and a shame. if wine is kept away from the table then the servers should keep an eye on the diners but given that could well be impossible in a busy restaurant without being obtrusive, offering to keep the bottle on the table would have been better.
our table was in a good position - towards the back of the restaurant and not to close to other diners. a nice touch was a candle brought for the birthday.
Cute little place with amazing setting. Great staff
Was a wonderful evening , everything was amazing only thing we got out right next to the waiters station and over hear everything but also sometimes some waiters would accidentally brush past me. So maybe next time would like to be put at a different table
This was not my first visit to the Ivy. My prior experience was amazing. We ordered A la Carte and were seated in the right side of the restaurant, in the open space at a nice table. People dressed up as expected, the service was very good and attentive, and the food was excellent. We decided to book again for Valentine’s. Unfortunately we were absolutely disappointed.
We were seated on the left rather cramped space in the window, which is not as romantic as the other side, but it was fine. We decided to go for their set menu and special drinks. Drinks were ok but the food was not what we expected. However was still acceptable. It was ok.
Unfortunately, the service was atrocious! We waited more than 20 minutes for simple water and our starting drinks while we saw other tables being served around us that ordered later. The drinks were served almost at the same time as the starters, so the menu got out of balance. The service seemed more absent than anything else, the wine for the main arrived almost at the end of the dish. The same longer waiting occurred even for the bill.
The crown of the edifice of disappointment happened when we left. We had pre-booked a table for our wedding anniversary and wanted to make sure that we could continue our previous good experience before Valentine’s and asked if it was possible to be seated in the right open space for our a la carte evening. The response of the manager at the front was beyond description. Disinterested and bored she did not check on our reservation but simply stated she wouldn’t know and certainly wasn’t going to make sure this could be arranged.
The Ivy must have a lot of customers lined up to pay for a random experience of varying food and service quality that they can afford alienating good customers like us who wanted to make the Ivy a regular. They have had their chance, and we are unlikely to give them another.
No cakes. Slow service.
This was our first experience of The Ivy, Oxford. We were greeted in a very friendly way, and with courtesy. We liked our table location, the decor, ambience, and the staff who attended our table, including your Manager. They looked after our needs perfectly. Our lunch, being the end of our Diamond Wedding celebrations, was ideal and perfectly cooked and served. Thank you. We look forward to coming again.
Went here for Valentines day brunch. We were 20 mins early but seated immediately and offered water on seating. Had eggs benedict and eggs royale and it was amazing. Low level music and 3 different staff approached to see if we were OK. Amazing service and beautiful setting!
It’s was fine, lovely setting, the staff were good, but the food was just a little average given the price. I’d go again, but with the set menu until they find their feet as I’m sure they will.
Excellent service, good ambience, nice menu if not unusual
Despite having a most enjoyable experience I was disappointed that my only desired main course choice w on the Set Menu was not available. This can happen, but I think that under those circumstances it would have been courteous to have offered me a main course from the standard menu at the Set price. This would have created a much more positive experience for me, and cost the restaurant next to nothing. The waitress even told me that if I had a starter from the Set Menu (which I wanted) I could not do so unless I also ordered a pudding, a total of £16 for just these, which was just ridiculous. A great ambience, excellent food, and faultless general service, but perhaps a tiny bit more attention to customer relations?
A really enjoyable afternoon. Nice atmosphere, great food and service.
I went to the Ivy with a couple of girlfriends to celebrate my Birthday. It is an amazing place with beautiful decor and ambiance and fabulous food. Sadly, it was let down by a very disengaged waitress, hence the loss of a star. She was very rude to one of my friends who when asked about one of the lunchtime specials again was told ‘I have already explained the food to you and it is as the menu states’ we were all astounded by this response and my friend explained to her that when the menu was being explained it was noisy and the waitress was reading it parrot fashion whilst looking out of the window which is why she had difficulty hearing what was said. There was no real apology. Thankfully we were served by some very exceptional staff who were engaging and very pleasant. Which is why we did not remove the discretionary service charge as we felt other staff should no be penalised by one rude person. Overall the experience was enjoyable and I would recommend others to eat there. I also loved the gold wallpaper in the stunning ladies washrooms!!
Immediately you walk into the Ivy there is a lovely feeling of friendly warm ambiance... the decor is fantastic and food is amazing ... I highly recommend it
