The Ivy Oxford Brasserie
Located on the first floor, The Botanical Room, is our stunning private dining space, seating up to 24 guests or 35 guests for cocktail receptions is decorated with locally referenced artwork and prints inspired by the local area including literature, the botanical gardens, and academia.
This was the third time I dined at Ivy. The food has been consistently good but the service was poor on two out of the three occasions. This last time we waited for 30 mins before our table became available and another 20 minutes before we managed to attract the attention of a waiter.
Slow service and didn’t feel like a valued customer. Lots of people being asked to vacate their table before they were ready to leave. Not a relaxed atmosphere.
Arrived 10 minutes early only to be told we couldn’t enter the bar area for a drink before being seated!! Go elsewhere for a drink or wait in the foyer we abruptly told. Service absolutely diabolical. Ordered 4 drinks, waited 20 minutes and only got 2 drinks. An hour later and 4 requests later the other drink turned up. ‘It’s very busy tonight’ was the excuse. Sorry but the busiest night of the week a place like this should be catering for the number of guests booked with the appropriate number of staff. The whole point of the booking system is you know how many people to expect!! The staff were very apologetic though, and the manager explained the staff trained before the place opened most had left. We will give it another go in a few months maybe when they’ve got their act together but on the whole it didn’t live up to the name.
Great service good food
Had to ask for everything. When I wanted to order I had to ask two separate staff to take our order, by the time the first had returned the second had already taken our order. Similar situation with the bill however three people were involved in that. The food and bar was very slow, however typically service has been very good so I wouldn’t haste to judge off this one bad experience.
What a wonderful evening at The Ivy - attentive & welcoming staff, perfect ambiance and delicious food.
Had a great evening with freinds, our Waiter was a pleasure, great place for a nightout
We had a lovely time. We felt the front of house was a little cold, the staff didn't smile and were busy not very welcoming. The tables were too close together but decor was gorgeous and looked fab. The meal was delicious and I would definitely recommend the chocolate bomb for dessert. It was quite loud in there but that was because it was so busy and full.
We have visited the original Ivy and the brasseries in a London so it was great to have one open in our home town. The Ivy has a lovely bar area to enjoy a cocktail before or after your meal and the decor is lovely. Every member of staff we encountered was extremely professional and the waitress was very helpful. I had the signature Ivy shepherds pie which is as delicious as I remembered it and the creme brûlée equally as good and not messed around with( hate it when they add things to it) and my husband had the fish cakes with chunky chips and also no complaints there. The atmosphere is rather bustling but in a good way and we are both looking forward to our next visit.
The main courses are not huge and don’t include much in the way of vegetables but the desserts are way too big for one person but good for sharing!
Air conditioning a bit too high, so my partner and I felt a bit cold. Other than that, amazing dining experience as always.
Lovely late lunch . Great food and looked after very well. The private upstairs dining room is also fantastic .
Staff were particularly attentive and efficient. Refreshing to find professionally trained staff in a restaurant in Oxford. Long overdue in Oxford.
We received a warm welcome and we’re promptly shown to our table. Lovely waitress, very helpful.
Make sure you have the courgette fritte, they are spectacularly good! I had the shepherds pie and my sister had the fish and chips, both excellent.
Well worth a visit to this wonderful restaurant, either for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
Fantastic lunch with my friend. I had the set menu and my friend chose items from the menu. I asked for the Panna cotta to be made without alcohol and this was absolutely no problem. Came with a lovely warm raspberry coulis instead. Thank you for the excellent service and lovely ambiance.
Loved it! The food was good but the service was excellent!
Lovely decor - (especially toilets) wallpaper and plants and Art Deco bar are lovely. Service v good and attentive. Meet and greet good and efficient. Good specials on menu and very tasty. All instructions followed on separate sauce etc. for food. I will return.
Beautifully and unusably decorated, there is plenty to amuse the eye. We ate vegetarian and enjoyed the shepherds pie. Great depth of flavour achieved by the addition of oyster mushrooms and an intense tomato sauce. Presented in a shallow dish with a crispy potato topping, the initial thought was the portion size could be a little bigger but that proved unfounded and we were left satisfied. We ate different desserts and were pleased with our choices. Again beautifully presented and totally hit the sweet tooth spot! There was an issue with the late arrival of our drinks but an apology was quickly delivered along with the drinks and with the offer of complementary tea and coffee.
I would happily recommend a trip and look forward to returning.
The Ivy is newly opened in Oxford and will be a huge asset. We spent an enjoyable lunchtime and felt that we had a quality experience although a little noisy. Service was friendly and professionally delivered. The food was very appetising and the setting and decor exciting. In a word - delightful.
The Ivy Oxford is absolutely stunning - shame the food is pretty mediocre for the price. I would say it's not as good as the Magdalen Arms on Iffley Road, or Pompette in Summertown. We had high hopes when we came in because the service is great, and the pre-dinner cocktails were beautifully balanced.
I would recommend for ambience but the portions we had were minute, and the waiter had attitude - was rather dismissive when we ordered less than he had wanted us to - yet no advice given.
Good food at a reasonable price in opulent fun surroundings. Very good service but still a nice relaxed ambience. Thoroughly recommend a visit
Beautiful venue but the food was very underwhelming and really shockingly slow service and lack of knowledge from waiting staff.
The booking process was awful - I phoned to book, but then needed to add an additional person and it was a nightmare!
The place is lovely, though a little hard to hear if you're on a bigger table as it can be quite noisy.
The food was excllent, most enjoyable.
Our waitress was rude, impatient and kept saying she'd be back in a minute and never came. The service let it down.
The team were excellent, thanks very much
Great afternoon tea in a beautiful and relaxed environment!
We had a really lovely dinner on Saturday evening. The restaurant was lively with an excellent atmosphere. The service was good and the food delicious. The Lobster Linguine was amazing.
We love the Ivy on the Kings Road London.
The Oxford one didn't have quite the same feel. Don't know why.
It was very noisy with a DJ which was not good. We had to shout to hear one another. Would not go back on a DJ night. It's just not necessary. We're there to eat and chat and some quiet background music is all that is needed.
Otherwise, the decor, as always, is stunning. And the staff were excellent.
Food was good but not as good as London.
Good first visit impression, quite noisy but exciting atmosphere.
Excellent service waiter really friendly and helpful. This was our first visit to the ivy and definitely won’t be our last. Food was excellent for each course nothing can be faulted
Fantastic food and service, would recommend. Loved it!
Very friendly And efficient service food was fabulous
Lovely afternoon tea and polite friendly waiter. Nice to have a restaurant like the Ivy in Oxford.
I found the service very slow, we ordered the Ivy Burger in a Potatoe Bun, No potatoe in the bun, very disappointed, when I questioned this was told they only serve normal buns, never potatoe dispite it’s description in the menu.
The food was OK but nothing special, and definitely over priced for what was provided
Had a very enjoyable relaxed lunch - can definitely recommend the Ivy Royale and the candy Floss cocktail
What a treat. A beautiful setting in Oxford and the decor throughout is just stunning. Even the ladies was instagram worthy!
Attentive staff who were not intrusive, and the menu was perfect for a weekend breakfast. Would definitely recommend and will be visiting again for dinner.
It was better than expected and would probably go again :)
‘Music’ Appalling and intrusive
Food cold and over priced
Decor interesting but cluttered and overpowering.
Won’t be returning
A pleasant first visit. However although there was a wide menu. in practice the choice for us was limited. What we had was good but we're in no hurry to return and try other things.
Visited The Ivy for the third time since opening in November, and as on previous visits everything was spot on. We were allocated a fantastic table in a small alcove which gave us plenty of privacy without fear of being overheard. Service, food and drinks were all fantastic. We didnt feel in the least bit rushed, and everyone we encountered during our visit was extremely polite and friendly. This restaurant caters for all occasions, including birthdays and anniversaries, but also for an informal catch up with friends and family. Ive yet to experience the weekend Brunch but Im sure it wont be too long, and hopefully the review will be as positive as this one. The staff certainly make you feel valued as a guest of the restaurant, and it was lovely to be recognised as a returning diner.
