Excellent food and service.
Food great, tables a bit close together, light levels low to read menus (lots of people using phone lights to read)
Service a little slow at first.
Whilst pricy worth it for a special occasion.
Service was excellent - couldn’t fault it
Venue stunning - absolutely love the Art Deco style of it
Only criticism was the music - felt too clubby/pumping at time’s & didn’t quite fit with the venue & all three of us felt a bit too loud (our ages were 24/47/62) at times
went for a mother daughter day out waited 30 minutes for a server to come to table even though it was not busy limited choice available on set menu ordered from main menu steak was overcooked and returned to kitchen only to be told no more available spoke with the manager who offered alternative at same price by the time my daughters meal came out I had finished mine not ideal
We first off all got given the wrong food and then had to wait an age for the second course which was mediocre at best . Side dishes were forgotten about which we had paid for and the waiter who gave us the bill got it wrong . Overall very poor and disappointing.
Service was very poor but the food was as dependable as ever! Service in other Ivy’s is impeccable
My third visit since your opening in Oxford which I think speaks for itself. The decor is great, the ambience is fabulous, staff are attractively dressed, efficient, helpful and cheerful, they are really discreet whilst you are eating but never far away should they be required. The food is well presented and always delicious. Looking forward to my next visit.
This review will not come as a surprise as I did air our views at the end of the evening with one of the Managers. The service was worse than awful, the bar staff slow and seemed inexperienced and untrained. Food not as expected, tables very squished together, so little privacy for conversation. Overall a very disappointing visit so we won't be rushing back. Shame, as we were so looking forward to Oxfords latest fine dining establishment.
Undercooked chicken for a pregnant women...🤦♂️
40min waiting for starters...
Moldy lemon from prawn cocktail...
Dessert was ok but nothing extraordinary...
My first and last visit big disappointment
Too few staff to provide level of service expected - slow service - quite often wrong food bought to table - and veg cold
Had a drink at the bar and then went to the table by the window which was nice. A very wide menu and drinks selection. The food was excellent but the only comment I would make is that it could have been hotter. It want cold but not hot.
Really nothing special apart from the nice decor of the restaurant. Our table for 2 was very close to the other tables, a bit uncomfortable. Food was nothing special at all: the truffle chips were extremely dry and tasteless, felt like a frozen bag of chips. Meat and salmon for main were very mediocre. The lights were dimmed for the evening and it felt quite dark. Really not a very nice experience overall.
Good not great. A place for a lady’s brunch or afternoon tea. Slow, inattentive wait staff.
Overall the food was very good and enjoyable, service was terrible and had wait a very long time to be served, reason given was that a lot of people had turned up for afternoon tea, this really isn't my problem and there should of been enough staff.
If the service had been better i would of awarded five stars.
Had heard good reports from other branches so keen to try the Oxford Ivy. We were greeted well at the cloakroom and quickly shown to our table but took a while to get our drinks orders. We decided to go for the set lunch menu as we thought it would be fairly quick. The order was slow to be taken and after waiting for almost half an hour I complained to a waiter. Another waiter came over and pointed out that it was actually 26 minutes since the orders had been placed and offered us each a complimentary drink. The starters came and three of us had crab cakes which were overcooked! The toast for the ballotine arrived after we had started eating. The main courses were good. The waiter then offered us the full dessert menu to compensate for our delays and may be because it was my birthday! The desserts were delicious. When our bill came to the table we had been charged for the complimentary drinks and desserts! My husband sorted this out but that shouldn’t have been necessary
Really lovely experience beautiful decor all staff extremely welcoming and friendly excellent food lovely gin and tonic our waiter helpful and very charming young man
Very bad dining experience. Supposed to be a special occasion, but will be remembered for all the wrong reasons. Waited for 1.5 hours to be served . When sourdough bread arrived, hot on outside, frozen inside. Replacement provided. Wine waiter told me they'd run out of house white, then came back and said he'd found some. Brought us complimentary nibbles while we waited for main course. Two of us ordered vegetarian Karalan curry with sweet potato, when it arrived, full of duck!!! Never before have I ordered a veggie meal and been served meat. Front of house staff and management very apologetic and brought me a replacement veggie curry (only one, not for the other person). But by then we'd been there for over 2 hours and had to go. We were offered complimentary champagne, coffee, sweets, but we had no time left, and by then we were fed up with the whole experience. It was meant to be a magical evening, but it embarrassing and unpleasant.
NB. No 'V' symbols on menu. You have to work out for yourself what is vegetarian. Vegan dishes? I don't know. Also, washrooms on first floor, which was difficult for my 90-year old mother who has mobility problems. She had to come down the stairs backwards. Is there a lift? I don't know, we couldn't find one.
It was very noisy and fairly busy, although not all tables full.
Two tables either side of us queried their bill and found they'd been overcharged for drinks they hadn't had. Thankfully, we weren't charged for our disastrous meal. I can only surmise that it's still early days (only opened a few weeks ago) and systems aren't yet properly in place. The kitchen certainly seemed to be chaotic. But this is The Ivy, with a great reputation for food. Quite what went wrong I don't know, but they shouldn't have opened if they weren't ready. My husband says he will never go there again. Veggies beware! Check you're not being served meat!!!
Horrendous evening. Poor service. Cold food. Self service for wine and drinks! Adam the manager needs to manage and deal with the customers and not leave the poor inexperienced staff to have to cope with u happy customers. Food was cold. No one served the wine. Just a shambles!
The venue is excellent but unfortunately my main dish arrived at table only lukewarm. It had to be sent back and recooked meanwhile my dining partners were tucking into their food and had nearly finished by time my meal returned to table.
Staff very apologetic and offered a free pudding to compensate but if you are paying these prices you at least expect hot food. It was a special occasion which was marred. Would we go back? Not sure.
Great place with beautiful décor and great ambiance. Food was as expected and very good but unfortunately it was let down by the lack of menu knowledge, slow delivery of drinks, being given the wrong cutlery for red meat vs fish dishes and generally slow service at a time when it was not at all busy. Being left standing at the door whilst waiting for the two hosts to show poeple to their table certainly wasn't welcoming
Excellent food. Service was slow to start with. We were brought Lea & Perrins before we received our champagne.
Really enjoyed our ‘girls’ lunch, loved the decor and detail. Food was fine, although, we ordered bread which came out late after we’d finished starters which was a little too late. Our waitress was really nice, we had a really enjoyable time.
Restaurant wonderful , staff very tentative , had a lovely lunch , definitely be back ,
Beautiful setting for dinner.. food was good quality & good selection of foods.
Drinks - cocktails & wine selection excellent. Could’ve had a draft beer choice.
BUT please could you make it a bit lighter in the restaurant as quite dark.. Also larger print on menus as not only too dark to see but print is too small for most people even my kids who don’t wear glasses.
I went to The Ivy in Oxford with my daughter and we were both very impressed with it. The decor and atmosphere is fantastic and just has a lovely feel about it. The food was so delicious. The only negative I would have is that we had to wait for our drinks but have put this down to teething problems. Other than this, we had a fantastic evening.
The food was lovely but the service wasn’t great, a few people got drinks where others had to wait for a while. My friend was disappointed with her rather small risotto!
Attended for my Husbands Birthday staff were great, lovely decorations and food very good.
Lovely meal, only downside was the DJ playing the music, you could not hear the waiter, also talking to each other you were shouting.
Service service service! Like others we found it slow. Drinks took 30 minutes to arrive. There are so many staff there but I am not sure what they are all doing, clearly not focusing on service . The food was excellent though, if not a bit cold. it is quite expensive too, many dishes need sides adding.
The decor is based on the Botanical gardens but is very green- lots of large leaves and flowers, not sure it works.
There is a DJ... bit odd, he was playing throbbing bar/ club type music which did not feel right for a restaurant, maybe softer jazz would have been ok. It was quite loud and difficult to talk without raising our voices.
Overall we liked it and will return and hopefuly they will listen to feedback.
Fabulous food as you expect from the Ivy. Beautiful restaurant design. Great quality. Service good and will soon be as seemless as the others in the chain.
Music was a bit jarring to start with but got better when the DJ stepped in.
Great food and great customer service, really enjoyed our evening and the waiter recommended us a very good starter.
We went to the Ivy for afternoon tea. We had booked online and the day before had an email with which we confirmed and then also a phone call which we confirmed....
On arrival, we were 10 minutes early and we were asked to sit at the bar although there were a number of vacant tables. We were given one right next to the till, which wasn’t the best as they were constant staff working behind us.
We had a cream tea the scones were generous, we had 3 each and the jam and cream delicious. However, a couple of the scones were a bit burnt on the top and we weren’t given any hot water for our tea. Small issues but I would expect better from the IV.
The staff were friendly but it was offputting that our waitress had very bad body odour another waiter very greasy hair and also some notably dirty whites.
I think the Ivy needs to up its game in Oxford if it is to compete with other branches in the UK.
On a plus note the decor was beautiful!
Fabulous restaurant in an excellent location.
Although the booking was only for 2 people, we barely had any space. The tables were small and we were touching elbows with the people next to us.
Our food was delicious and the place was nicely decorated.
Excellent service , professional staff , lovely food , exceptional puddings . No pressure to leave the table , relaxed enjoyable atmosphere .
Lovely experience could not fault it. Beautiful building. Lovely interior.Outstanding food.
Impressed. Our first visit. Service impeccable, food was superb. Both of us thought that the dishes we chose (salmon and half a chicken were delicious. We didn't have to wait for our waitress at any time. Decor modern and interesting. I would give it 5 stars for everything but the music was a little loud for us: we are both older, so obviously the music is aimed at the modern and younger set! Prices were as expected and not out of line with similar establishments. I shall return!!
1st time at the Ivy. it was lovely amazing setting, great staff, lovely food nicely presented. we shall go back ! I recommended the Ivy to my friends. The most beautiful restaurant setting in Oxford. Worth the wait !!!!!
drinks came out relatively promptly but food took a long time to be served, service was good.
A beautiful place to eat and drink. Not as expensive as one might think. Service was superb. Food was delicious. Very highly recommended.
Food and atmosphere was great. Service was poor. After main course nobody bothered to ask if we wanted dessert and any more drinks. Had to ask twice. Also took over 10 minutes from asking for the bill to receiving it....
