Although the food was excellent and ambiance lovely the service on this occasion was poor. Perhaps due to a staff change over but we were forgotten about and waited 40 minutes between courses. We were compensated with a complementary drink and I’m glad we weren’t in a rush. I’d happily try the restaurant again though. Always good to have second chances.

This was a meal I had booked for my wife’s birthday. Overall, we were both quite disappointed. We have used the Ivy in Bristol several times and have always been very pleased. However, this trip to Oxford fell way below our expectations and we came away disappointed. I ordered a sirloin steak and fortunately I asked the waitress what it came with and she said ‘nothing!’ I could not believe a £25 steak doesn’t even come with any kind of dressing, a few salad leaves, a tomato, maybe some mushrooms. She said I could order some extra green beans which I didn’t want. If I’m paying £25 for a steak I expect it to at least come with a dressing of salad of some kind. I change my order to a mushroom and truffle linguine but when it came I was very disappointed. There was very little sauce and what there was tasted watery. The linguine was just wet and didn’t taste very much. I honestly believe that a microwave meal from Tesco would have given me more flavour. The waitress asked me if I would like Parmesan and I said yes. I put my knife and fork down and waited several minutes for the waitress to return with the Parmesan but she never came back. I started to eat my meal before it went cold and my wife had to flag down a different waitress and ask again for Parmesan. I had nearly finished my meal when the waitress bought a small dish of Parmesan. She said that it had to be sent up from the kitchen. Why isn’t there a Parmesan cheese and cheese graiter available on the restaurant floor as in most restaurants? The rest of the meal was okay but we did leave feeling very disappointed and both said we wouldn’t go back again.

My birthday celebrations were well placed and the Ivy met the bill, was a bit surprised that we had a cocktail before the meal and had to sit at the bar, I thought more comfy chairs would have been better, next time we'll have the drinks at the table which would have suited us.

Lovely corner table so we had plenty of room. Our main courses of Shepherds pie and Rabbit and Langoustine pie were absolutely lovely. We shared a green veg side and that was more than enough for the two of us. I had a creme brûlée for dessert which was also really tasty and was too much for me so my husband finished it off. The service was timely and our waiter was attentive and gracious. The minor problem was the cheese soufflé starter than my husband had was cold in the middle. The waiter acknowledged that others had just reported the same problem and he took the cost from the bill and offered us free drinks too. The problem was dealt with really well and we felt we had been properly served. Was holidaying in Oxford but would definitely go to other Ivy restaurants in future if this one is anything to go by. Thank you for a lovely evening

Soufflé starters were cold in the middle. Sent back and fresh ones brought but both cold again. In fact one was even colder than the first! Mains were great! Service good. The bad start was reflected in the price so very pleased we didn’t pay for them. Complimentary coffee and cocktail each so all good! Definitely be back!

This was a spur-of-the-moment booking to round off our walking tour around Oxford. We were surprised but very excited that we were able to get in so quickly – it was a Monday though. Service was really good thanks entirely to our excellent waiter but the girls on reception didn't seem particularly engaged or welcoming. I don't think any spoke or engaged with us other than to confirm our booking when we arrived. Drinks were great – we had cocktails followed by wine – but the food was pretty mediocre for the price. The lobster linguine was surprisingly tasteless as were the scallops – we've just come back from a week in Cornwall so we know how tasty fresh seafood should be. Maybe this was a Monday thing? We really wanted to be impressed by our first experience to The Ivy Brasserie but felt a bit underwhelmed. All-in-all, we think we get a greater sense of occasion and better value for money at the gastro pub in our home village. PS. I've said I'll recommend to give it another try.

It was terrible. We had lunch yesterday and I wish I went somewhere else. Three girls in reception and not even a hello or welcome. Our waitress didn’t crack a smile during the whole time. We order 2 steak tartare to start which were alright, nothing special. Main courses were terrible, I ordered the chicken milanese, the fried egg was hard ad overcooked, my girlfriend ordered theavocado Benedict, eggs were way ovecooked, that was hard boiled, manager sent the dish back, after a short time it came back and was overcooked again, worst than the first time. They removed them from the bill, which was nice. Overall it was a mess, no one seemed to care, for a place that you pay over £40/50 per head they should do some training to the front of house and the chef should train his staff on how to cook eggs, afterall you guys are serving a brunch menu, is the bare minimum. We had dinner the night before at Quod and it was great, better menu, better staff and sort of the same prices. I never make reviews but I feel yesterday was a disaster and a bad ending to a beautiful two day trip to Oxford.

I booked the restaurant for my wife’s birthday and have to say I was hugely disappointed. We waited for 25 minutes each time for a drink and then food came out in stages, so was cold when all was eventually served. I ordered medium rare steak and it was rare at best, so had to send it back. I very rarely complain when it comes to service or quality of food but based on this experience I had to.

Firstly the good points - the ambience was good and the decor is lovely. There are plenty of staff and they are attentive. The food however was a big disappointment. We ordered starters and a fillet steak meal. Whilst the fillet steak was cooked correctly , the quality of the meat was not good enough for a restaurant at this level. The vegetables were luke warm and so were the chips which were also brittle (clearly they were reheated). This is very poor for a £300 plus spend. We have a delightful meal at the Quod Restaurant the night before and I wish we had gone there instead. I will not be dining at the Ivy Oxford again

Been to many Ivy Brasseries and had a lovely time. This visit, the drinks order was wrong, the chicken Milanese was over cooked/dry, the sides came after the mains and the waitress was really rushing us, no rest in between meals courses. This has put me off coming back again. The beefeater restaurant the night before was superb and we tipped heavily. It ruined my sons birthday.

I have to say I’m quite disappointed in the ivy, the last time we went around a month ago the service was awful, so much so that they discounted our bill by over £100. I went again with my partner on Saturday and the service was just as bad, waited an incredibly long time for food, ordered a drink which never actually came. I also saw a woman drop a 5 pound note on the floor out of her jacket. A waiter picked it up and instead of returning it to her he put it in his pocket? The air con was also on full blast, people were putting their coats back on because it was so cold. I wish we had of booked into victors or quod as we never have a problem there. I’m so sorry for leaving a negative review but considering it is the ivy you just expect better.

Came here after with family after a RCGP function nearby. Lovely interior just like the Ivy brand always has. Nice welcome and nice booth seating. We couldn’t be quite sure whether our main waitress liked or disliked us - obviously it’s a busy job so clearly was in ‘work mode’ but obviously made all our interactions quite awkward. Otherwise food was great, service was fast and it was another enjoyable visit. Would recommend and would return. Thanks

A lovely restaurant and a good ambience - incredible wall decorations. Really good food, but coffees cold on arrival and brought before the pudding (which for me is the wrong order). Also the waiter tried to serve sparkling water in glasses which already had still in them! But relatively small niggles for what was a very good meal and occasion.

Brunch. Lovely decor and we were well cared for. I was disappointed with my meal (poached egg on avocado on muffins with chips) which was virtually tasteless as no seasoning had been added and was a bit stodgy. My husband very happy with his ( crispy duck then roast salmon). We were there for my husbands birthday and a lovely touch was a choux bun with a lighted candle.

Lovely greeting on arrival at front , All staff could not have been any nicer /attentive without being overbearing. Had a Mojito at the bar while waiting for table, took a while to arrive and was quite sharp to taste ,maybe the lime was under ripe. Food was Outstanding, cooked and presented to Perfection, we had Prawn cocktail & duck parfait starters, & 2 steak mains , I asked for my fillet steak not to have any pink , it was perfect melt in the mouth, as was my husbands ribeye steak 🥩, veg cooked perfectly too not soggy not too hard , Lovely bottle of Prosecco to wash it down , Special treat for 17th Wedding Anniversary. Just dropped 1 star for Mojito being a long wait and too sharp and the toilets, toilets were Beautifully decorated and love the wash basin being inside the loo, but bits of loo paper and water splashes all over floor and basins, I chose the best of the 2 to use, I know you can’t clean them every 5 mins , but I’m sure these were left a while - having a cleaning business for 15yrs I’m probably too fussy 🤦🏻‍♀️ ! Overall would Highly Recommend The Ivy 🍃 ,a Thoroughly enjoyable evening Thank you 😊👍

I really wanted to like this place but a series of little things left us pretty disappointed.. Our table wasn't ready when we arrived so we were taken to a seat at the bar to wait, totally fine. Ordered a couple of cocktails which took a while to make but no big deal. Once at the table, we were warned the bar was now very busy and there would be a delay for drinks. Ordered some olives to start which took nearly 30 mins to arrive and so came with the drinks. We'd been there an hour before we received our starters and saw parties who arrived after us receive their food before ours. By the time the mains arrived neither of us were very hungry anymore. The food itself was average (steak tartare had a lot of parsley piled on the top, duck curry was watery and fairly tasteless). We were given a free round of drinks but of course they took a long time. The place was busy and had a nice feel to it but the staff were clearly under pressure (the waitress dropped menus/cutlery over us a few times). A manager did come over to apologise that we'd had to wait so long and gave a discount on the bill, but for the experience we had it was still too much. Each thing alone would be forgivable but all in all the evening was very underwhelming which was a real shame.
