The Ivy St. Helen’s Square
Unfortunately we had a table that was almost in an annexe and there was not much atmosphere.
One main meal [the special] was overcooked and whilst it was replaced [and taken off the bill] it did mean that our meal was marred whilst one diner waited for it to be replaced. The other food was fine.
The wine list is expensive and it is hit and miss where you end up sitting. A good table is great a bad one....
We like the place and will go again - but watch what you are ordering!
Loved it all
Everything about York Ivy is consistently good- staff, atmosphere, menu and the food itself.
Sat in very close proximity to two other 2 seater tables when there was other free tables available. So you could clearly hear everyone’s conversation, making it awkward. The food was delivered with no cheese as ordered so had to be taken back up to have applied to the steam baguette. In fairness wasn’t charged for the cheese, but I was charged a service charge which I wasn’t expecting however.
Great service and great food, loved it! I had eggs benedict and my wife had pancakes with fruit bothwere really good.
A fabulous, relaxed lunch with very tasty and well presented food but the star of our visit was our waitress who made us all feel ‘special’ by her excellent service and unassuming attention.
Had afternoon tea at the Ivy. Lovely atmosphere, beautiful surroundings. The food was good although a little more attention to details would have improved it.
Always plenty of tea & a good selection.
Lovely atmosphere very easy to book on line.
Table ready on arrival and staff outstanding.
Great choice of quality food something for everyone.
We love The Ivy for a special treat brunch on a day out. Excellent food. But pricier than your usual brunch offerings but hey, you
Get what you pay for!!
Great food, impeccable service, lovely atmosphere and all for a very reasonable price!
Excellent food and service. Arrived early for pre dinner drink but bar area extremely busy and no seats available. I suppose it was busy weekend for Christmas shopping and expected. However, on speaking with a number of customers at the bar not all had booked meals and only there for drinks which feels a little frustrating as a diner.
An excellent evening. Much better than my last Ivy experience last year at the then newly opened Leeds restaurant. Although, my wife tells me that it was much better the last time she went there for afternoon tea.
Would really recommend the York restaurant though. It's much better eating out when a restaurant is full and busy. The food was great and so was the atmosphere.
Absolutely loved coming to The Ivy tonight. Fantastic service, food and wine. Even the toilets smell like a perfumery!!!😁😁😁
Can’t wait to come back.

The quality of the food and service was excellent and the price was appropriate for that standard. We had a thoroughly enjoyable meal.
The only point of criticism was the noise. It was very noisy. Not what I was hoping for in a fine dining experience. I think the hard wall surfaces accentuated this.
Ivy was a great place for lunch, the cocktails were delicious, and the service was good! Possibly a little more ambience (maybe some low volume music - we didnt hear any). We sat very close to others, which meant we could hear their conversations and vice versa.
No major complaints, solid and great value!
Lovely atmosphere and food was fantastic. Staff cant do enough for you would most recommend.
The stars would have been higher, but for the fact we were served frozen chips with a £30 steak as a paid for extra, which I find completely unacceptable. We did complain (something we hate to do) and the chips were removed from the bill, but it still distracted from what was otherwise a fairly decent meal.
I feel very sorry for the kitchen staff who have to carry food orders down 2 flights of stairs (making way for customers as they do so) to hand it over to the waiting staff. Nightmare!
Service charge excessive. Service mediocre at best , one waitress excellent others disinterested, waiter aloof and rude . Starters excellent and plenty to eat . Mains small but tasted delicious. This was our second visit we would not go back again. Experience not worth the money !
My friends and I all enjoyed our experience at the Ivy on Friday 6th December. The food and service were outstanding.. the setting and surroundings were beautiful. I would definitely recommend and I will be returning again next year
Excellent food and great service would definitely use again.
I had chicken with a fried egg but my chicken was burnt all around the edge which was disappointing. The egg however was delicious.
A fabulous lunch , the food was amazing and teh ambience was lovely
Not terribly Christmassy as far as decorations on tables etc but food and atmosphere lovely. Have the apple tart just for the theatre of the flaming Calvados!
Superb restaurant, food and staff excellent, would highly recommend
A fabulous evening celebrating my husband's birthday. The service and ambience were very classy indeed and the food was wonderful. We'll be back!
Good atmosphere with pleasant and helpful staff. Got a bit noisy at times, but just people enjoying themselves.
We had a really good experience at this Ivy. Everything was excellent.
A perfect wedding anniversary lunch. Thankyou. Will definitely visit again.
We had an amazing lunch! Thank you so much xx
Celebrated my birthday here this week and was very impressed. The food was lovely will definitely be returning
Lovely atmosphere wit good service and tasty food. Very convivial lunch . The waitress was really caring and sorted a little problem with a mixup with wine bottles without fuss. She was professional without being overdone.Everyone in my party commented on how much they had enjoyed it.
It was a very busy time and so lots of noise from conversations....we could definitely have done without the music ,which you could not distinguish and only saved to make people have to shout to be heard. Its fine to have music as a background when things are quiet but when busy music just detracts .
3 of us had a superb dinner at The Ivy, York. Although not the cheapest, this is the sort of place to go for a real treat. The welcome was warm, the decor stunning with a great ambience. The service was extremely friendly and attentive without being OTT. All that would have been wasted if it hadn’t been matched by the food, but it absolutely was!
Can highly recommend for a special experience’
Everything was wonderful!!!
Beautiful & fun restaurant, decorated lovely for Christmas.
Really nice served nice and quickly, Got a little bit busy later so staff didn’t necessarily notice When we had to leave but hold hold an excellent experience
Not been before so did not know what to expect. Had read negative remarks after we had booked but was very pleasantly surprised.
Lovely experience as always
Food,service. atmosphere all fantastic
Visited The Ivy, York for a birthday treat, really enjoyed the evening. Friendly service - not as stuffy as I thought it might be, recommended for that special occasion.
