The staff make this place 5 star, they go above & beyond to ensure everything is perfect! Thank you for giving my mam an extra special birthday celebration. We had the fish & chips, followed by the chocolate ivy bomb. I can highly recommend both as they were cooked & presented to perfection. Decor is beautiful. Our chairs were so comfortable we could have sat there all day. Ladies you must check out the toilet ceiling. It’s blooming gorgeous! We are already looking to return.

We came to the Ivy, St Helen’s Square to celebrate our anniversary after receiving a voucher (thank goodness!). The service started off brilliantly, but after our first drink, we were left for about 15 minutes with empty glasses, understandable if they were quite busy. Just before our food arrived, I requested with a staff member if we could have more drinks so they took our order of 2 drinks. The main meal came and we had 1-2 bites of food left (90% finished!) before our 2 drinks arrived. They also asked us at the start “water for the table” to which I said yes please! What they failed to tell us is that’s £5 a bottle? The bill came and they’d automatically added a £12 service charge on, to which we asked them then to take off as we thought it was appalling they hadn’t asked how our service has been, just added the tip on automatically. To summarise, it felt like we were shoved in a corner and forgotten about for the duration of our anniversary meal. Will not be returning and the price does not reflect the service you’ll receive here.

It was our first time visiting the ivy York, though we have experienced others in the uk. Food was expected apart from the fillet steak which was very disappointing coming out twice well done instead of medium rare, a surprise and confirmation of a problem back of house. However we were compensated with it being taken off our bill naturally along with a couple of sides for our trouble. George who looked after us was truly exceptional and head and shoulders above the other competent staff in there.

Service was good but the meal was not good frozen fish and chips had better for half the price £135 with a cheap bottle of Rose won’t be returning shocking value for money .
